iPhone X getting ready to ship! [Photos]

    Posted: 28 Oct 2017 08:01 AM PDT

I was hoping that there would be a black/grey box for Space Grey X and a silver box for Silver X, but I guess we'll have white boxes for both colours! Although it seems the difference may be in the wallpaper used on the photo of the X that is on top of the box.

I've made an app that lets you choose how long you want to read for, and then gives you a story from /r/writingprompts of that length

    Posted: 28 Oct 2017 07:17 AM PDT

    Hi Reddit!

I just thought you might like this. You pick how long you have to read (1,3 or 5 minutes) and then you will get a story of that length from the best of /r/writingprompts.

Let me know what you think!

    Here are the links:

Question about the iPhone 8/X Qi Wireless Charging compatibility.

    Posted: 28 Oct 2017 03:34 PM PDT

    Hey everyone,

I have a few questions about the Qi Charging capabilities of the new iPhones. I'm going to try to get an iPhone X so i'm curious if perhaps there are some folks out there who are using an iPhone 8 (and already have some experience charging with Qi, or if anyone just knows any answers in general)...

    As I understand it:

    • The iPhone 8 / X supports 7.5 watt Qi charging (but only 5 watts for now until a future iOS update enables the full 7.5 watt charging capability).
    • 5 watt charging is considered the 'standard' charging speed for Qi.
    • There are also some 10 watt 'Quick/Fast Charge' bases out there as well. Mostly intended for Android / to be used in conjunction with Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0/3.0 capable USB charging bricks. I.E. phones need to specifically support this.

So my question is... if you buy a 10 watt charger, does that mean any 10 watt Qi charger will be capable of charging iPhones at 7.5 watts (with the upcoming iOS hotfix)? Or put another way, as long as the device draws under 10 watts, do 10 watt Qi charging pads 'step down' to the maximum charging rate of the device? Or are charging pads made to only support either 5 watt or 10 watt charging but nothing inbetween (I.E. 7.5 watt charging pads would have to be made exclusively for such devices like the iPhones). Does what I'm asking make sense?

Also, for the sake of argument let's say a 10 watt charging pad is capable of stepping down to charge an iPhone at 7.5 watts - do you absolutely need to have a Qualcomm QuickCharge-type power brick to enable that charging speed (above 5 watts)? For example, standard usb charging bricks charge at 5 volts * 1 Amps (5 watts). So if I were to have a 5 volt * 2.1 amp usb brick (10.5 watts), would I be good? Or is the reason I hear a Qualcomm Quickcharge 2.0/3.0 USB brick is required for 10 watt charging pads because they require higher voltage (I think that Qualcomm QuickCharge usb bricks supply 9 volts instead of 5 volts).

What iPhone X Case are you getting?

Not sure if 100% accurate but bad news for us T-Mobile customers who pre-ordered the iPhone X...

    Posted: 28 Oct 2017 08:04 PM PDT

    https://imgur.com/a/gN24Q

So I was speaking with T-Mobile Customer Care tonight and found out the above. Not entirely sure if this guy knows all of the facts or not.

I'm really hoping this doesn't turn out to be true as if that is the case, it looks like none of us will be getting the iPhone X on launch day. :(

Edit: /u/Boobie92 was kind enough to inform us that a T-Mobile Manager on MacRumors said they use the term "backordered" to refer to a phone that has not been released yet. So no, technically the pre-orders are not back-ordered per se.

    Posted: 28 Oct 2017 04:38 AM PDT

Think we will get it this year or this upcoming month?

I hope so cause I want to do a clean install on the X.

When you get your X, are you restoring from a backup or starting fresh?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2017 06:41 AM PDT

I love starting fresh, but started preparing my phone layout and apps for the x weeks ago so I'll most likely just restore.

    iPhone X Stereo Speakers?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2017 10:33 PM PDT

I'm wondering if the X has the same 25% louder stereo speakers as the iPhone 8. The earpiece/ speaker looks to be much smaller on the X than on the 8 or the 7. Apple didn't talk about the speakers on the keynote.. so maybe it's lacking that feature due to having the complex TrueDepth camera system? I guess we'll see next week!
