It’s been a year with my Apple Watch, Let me Share my Experience...

    Posted: 11 Jun 2022 11:12 AM PDT

So hi, I'm an Apple Watch SE user for a year now. This is the first Apple Watch I have ever owned. I bought it on my 15th birthday by saving up ever since I was 11 (Maybe some of you remember the post I made about it). And when I first got this device, I was so paranoid with it (As it was the first tech product I bought with my own money). And now that it's been a year now, I'd like to explain what I learned along the way and what I would tell my 15-year-old self when I first got it.

My main concern of the device was the water resistance. I was always so scared getting this thing wet. I know there's people out there that almost shower with it every day (Even Tim Cook!) but I never could bring myself to do it. However, a few months ago I found an app called "Cold Therapy" which tracks your heart rate during cold showers. This started to build up my confidence, I started showering with it increasingly. A few things I keep in mind are: Hot water, Soaps, and forceful streams of water are probably not the best for Apple Watch. I am yet to swim with it in a pool but since summer's coming up, I'll be bound to test that out. Overall, do not be scared to get it wet. Just be mindful and use your common sense when submerging it in liquids.

Now Battery life, honestly, I'm perfectly fine with how the battery works on this device. It lasts to my every need and that's all that matters. I did have a Clockology phase (An app that lets you have custom watch faces) but that ended due to extra battery life consumption. I charge my watch sometimes during showers (when I'm not tracking a cold shower), and overall, when I'm not particularly using it. It's help keep my watch's battery to my every need.

Durability, now I've never damaged the Apple Watch to a large extent. I do have one little scratch in the corner however its only noticeable in correct lighting. When you first encounter your first scratch on your Apple Watch, it's okay. Devices like this won't stay pristine and you need to understand that. But however, you can get cases and screen protectors but majority of this subreddit keep the Apple Watch raw and honestly, its durable enough without those things (unless you do some intense stuff with it on).

Sleep tracking, sleep tracking on the Apple Watch sucked (Up till now). In the past, it was barely useful. The only features built in were length and heart rate during sleep. But as a WatchOS 9 beta tester the brand-new update added a Fitbit like sleep tracking system (Sleep zones). If Apple was to add a sleep score, then the sleep tracking would be perfect but still it's a great tracker. If you wanted to further your sleep tracking, third party apps can be downloaded to do this.

Overall, my 365 days with my Apple Watch has been amazing. It's encouraged me to work out and build muscle, manage my time, listen to music, and even reduce my phone usage exponentially. I am 100% satisfied with my purchase and I hope this clears up any doubts someone like me had. (Comment any uncertainties you might have)

The Nomad Graphite stainless steel band looks amazing with the S7 Graphite SS

    Posted: 11 Jun 2022 08:20 AM PDT

I’m sure it’s not possible with the current watches, but wouldn’t it be cool if the Apple Watch recognized different bands and changed the face accordingly?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2022 04:39 PM PDT

For example, put on your sequoia green leather link and you get a matching green classy analog face, then you put on your black sport loop and you get a face with a digital clock and activity compilations.

New Sleep app - public beta

New Sleep app - public beta

    Hey /r/AppleWatch,

Last month on this sub, I started a private beta of a new sleep app. Thanks to everybody who's tested and reported bugs—it's been really helpful, and Empirical Sleep is now ready for testing from a broader set of people.

Quick summary: Empirical Sleep lets you apply the scientific method to your sleep. It analyzes your Apple Watch data to create three key metrics—sleep onset time, sleep duration, and sleep quality—recommends a simple action to try for 7 days, and then measures whether that action improved any of the three sleep metrics. These actions are called "challenges" in the app. There are a bunch of built-in challenges, and you can now create your own custom challenges.

Here's what the latest version looks like:

    Empirical Sleep v0.7

Here's a summary of what's changed since the beta started:

    • 0.5.1, 0.5.2, 0.5.3, 0.5.4: lots of bug fixes, especially around data generation, formatting on smaller screen sizes, timezone handling, and speed/performance.
    • 0.6, 0.6.1, 0.6.2: Make algorithms more resilient to missing data, e.g., blood oxygen requirements and inbed segments from the Health are now optional. Fix bugs, including one where the app would freeze.
    • 0.7: visual refresh of the today and challenges pages. Optional push notifications to be notified when your data is ready each morning. Create your own custom challenge.

If you're interested in trying it, you can join the beta directly through this TestFlight link:

Radically different sleep durations tracked across three apps - Pillow, Health, and Athlytic. Interested in using Watch for this, but what is causing so much inconsistency?

The fitness goals and incentives make absolutely no sense

    Posted: 11 Jun 2022 03:55 PM PDT

Our bodies need rest days, especially after consistent exercise. The model of a "streak" to maintain or to use to earn points stands directly against that.

The watch has access to our health data. If my resting heart rate is elevated all the time, my blood oxygen is lower than normal, and I'm suddenly moving a lot less, that's an indication that I may have come down with something and shouldn't be focusing on the same exercise goals.

Phone restore and watch dies 2x as fast

    Posted: 11 Jun 2022 05:50 PM PDT

I had to do a restore on my phone (iPhone 10 Max), didn't do a reset on my watch or anything, but watch needs to be charged at 2pm when it would normally go until at least 10:30pm. Any suggestions??

I wonder when I’ll hit 1000 HHR alerts (I have a heart problem, this is 2-3 years of alerts)

    Posted: 11 Jun 2022 02:31 AM PDT

I'm tachycardic most of the time, and the Apple Watch is great at keeping up most of the time. I don't expect it to be perfect as I don't imagine it's designed for users with erratic hearts basically constantly going at the rate of someone running a marathon practically 24/7.

But it's reliable enough that it plays a significant role in the regular 999 calls made each month, and is integrated into my management plan with my major hospital and cardiology hospital (some of the best in the UK) because they're that reliable at notifying me before I start wincing with crushing chest pain and so on.

Will my Apple Watch series 3 still work with my phone when it updates to iOS 16? I already know that support has been dropped for the device when watchOS 9 comes out.

Apple Watch no longer connecting after iPhone reset

    Posted: 11 Jun 2022 12:49 PM PDT

Hi guys, I had to take my iPhone 11 in to the Apple Store to get a reset after having the storage clogged with other. They ended up having to do a full reset and restore as a new iPhone but it's still connected to my iCloud account, it just registers as a "new" iPhone. I did not disconnect my Apple Watch from my iPhone before the reset, so now post-reset it will no longer connect to my iPhone because it's thinks it's still connected to the old version. My Apple Watch is part of a research study, so I need to be able to keep my stats that are still registered on there, so I don't want to wipe my Apple Watch. Also, my transit card is still attached to my Apple Watch, but did not show up in my Apple wallet on my iPhone post-reset, even though it was there pre-reset. I'm pretty sure I threw away the physical card after attaching it to my Apple wallet because it said that I could no longer use the physical card after converting it to a digital format, and I have about $12 on my card. How can I reconnect my Apple Watch to my iPhone without losing everything?

Can't get audiobook so sync to watch

    Posted: 11 Jun 2022 02:11 PM PDT

*Can't get audiobooks to sync to watch*

    Can't edit the title

I'm trying to add audiobooks I purchased through iTunes to my watch so I can run without lugging my phone with me. I got one to transfer a while back, but every time I attempt to add one while charging it shows the loading pinwheel but nothing happens, do you have any suggestions? I am jailbroken so I'm not up to date, I'm on 14.8 and 7.3.3 watchOS. Thanks in advance.

App recs: tracking fitness/cardiowith multiple stats??

    Posted: 11 Jun 2022 01:51 PM PDT

    Heyoo

Soo, as the title says do y'all have any good recommendations for any apps that track daily fitness and in particular cardio exercises like biking and daily activities like walking up stairs and walking and show your statistics over time? It'd also be cool if said app recommendations include apps that potentially integrate data from the Health app in their analysis. For example, I'd love to see how much I bike on a daily basis and how much my heart rate or pace, etc vary over time. I'm basically not really looking for a fitness tracker per se but a data analyzer app if that makes sense.

It'd be great if it's one app that can track multiple kinds of activities, but I'm willing to get multiple ones if an all-in-one app isn't out there yet.

    Thank you!

    Anyone with a Day 1 Series 6?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2022 09:52 AM PDT

What's your battery health percentage? Mine is at 82%. Curious if that's normal or if mine has degraded faster than typical. Thought other folks might be curious to see how their watch compares as well!

Battery health can be found under settings>battery>battery health on the watch only.

Series 6: Sensors stopped working, and watch automatically turns on after being shut down.

    Posted: 11 Jun 2022 11:32 AM PDT

Hello. My watch randomly started acting strange today. I didn't drop it, scratch it, or do anything to it. I didn't change any settings either.

The watch kept registering as being off my wrist (and locking), and then I found out that the heart sensor wasn't working.

I tried factory reset, hard reset, unpairing, normal reset, everything that I could have done.

Also, when i shut down the watch it automatically turns back on. I checked online and I couldn't find anything relating to my issue.

Anyone have any ideas? Please help.

    Modular normal watchface.

    Posted: 11 Jun 2022 12:46 PM PDT

Hello! I have been using some modular watchfaces these months and weeks, and i found the normal modular which you can change color on! I saw that you can change ALL the complication colors and thats something thats very rare on apple watch. I have a Series 7 and it looks a bit small and the big complication is strange. Is it worth using and are there people using it???

    Gps connection speed

    Posted: 11 Jun 2022 12:15 PM PDT

So I am thinking about buying an Apple Watch, I have a fossil smartwatch right now and the gps connects really slow. You really have to wait for more than 5 minutes for it to connect so you can start your run. Does anyone know how quickly the gps connects on any of the apple watches?

Is there a way to answer a call on the Apple Watch with the audio to go via my Bluetooth headset?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2022 11:15 AM PDT

When I tap on my watch to answer a call and I'm listening to stuff on my headphones, I want to use the headphones for the call not the watch speaker and mic on the watch. Is there a workaround for this?
