iPhone I miss my iPhone 8 Plus |
- I miss my iPhone 8 Plus
- Is it me or is iPhone's iOS v15.4.1's settings -> general -> storage not always accurate for the sizes in each installed app?
- AppleCare+ Theft and Loss
- What if Apple brought high refresh rate to the base iPhones but kept "ProMotion" exclusive to the Pros?
- Why does the iphone "pro" not have the option to lock white balance for videos?
- iOS is missing an important security feature
Posted: 31 Mar 2022 06:31 PM PDT Lame post, but I switched to the iPhone 13 Pro this morning, and I'm kinda missing my 8 Plus I'm sure I'll get used to my new phone very soon and forget the switch ever happened, but right now I feel like I'm mourning. I miss Touch ID and the large rectangular screen without the notch. The guy at verizon said the screen sizes are the same and that the 13 only looks smaller because there's no border, but I swear the screen is slightly smaller on the 13 lmao. The design of the 8 Plus also had smooth, curved edges unlike the sharp edged 13. The back of my 8 Plus was in black, but the back was reflective glass and I could see my reflection in it. The back of the 13 is frosted. The 8 also showed the battery percentage at the top of the screen, whereas in the 13 you have to drag the control panel into view to see the percentage. As for photos, I suddenly feel like... how do digital photos even matter? With my 8 Plus, everything felt clear enough. It's only in comparison to the 13 that someone might notice a difference in quality. Digital photos aren't physical photographs... the way they're perceived depends merely on the device. I don't even know if that makes sense lmao I mean, there are always gonna be changes but I can't help but miss the 8 Plus I had for years edit: would it be worth it to buy an iphone 8 plus from a seller online? otherwise, since I'll probably stop moping after a day or two, I'm considering returning the 13 pro for the 13 pro max so that the hand feel will atleast be similar to the 8 Plus that I was used to. Honestly I'm not a tech person so any insight is welcome [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Apr 2022 04:23 AM PDT Like I deleted many GB of VLC's "Documents & Data", but the sizes didn't change. However, iOS' settings -> general -> storage showing used numbers does change. Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon. :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Mar 2022 02:23 PM PDT I just spent the last hour and a half on the phone with Apple support over AppleCare+ Theft & Loss. I signed up when Apple first came out with the coverage two years ago. I have the iPhone X and pay $14.99/month. I helped a family member get the newest iPhone yesterday and saw that coverage is now $13.49/month. I called in to ask for a price adjustment to my coverage policy, and in a best case scenario, a retroactive price adjustment from the switch of $14.99 to $13.49. Apple said no. They said I'm tied into $14.99 unless I upgrade to a new phone. My two-year policy expires next week. Even if I went with extended coverage, they told me my quote would remain $14.99 if I have the same serial number. I immediately cancelled. Historically, the older the phone, the cheaper the cost of coverage. I'm going back to my service provider insurance. Just a venting sess and fair warning to those who may be in the same situation. Posted: 31 Mar 2022 10:40 PM PDT Apple's name "ProMotion" doesn't necessarily refer to their high refresh rate displays, it really just means the adaptive refresh rate LTPO technology that lets it modulate the refresh rate down to 10Hz (or 24Hz depending on the product) when not in use on the Pro iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks to get high refresh rates without sacrificing as much battery. I think that the name "ProMotion" strongly implies that they intend for this to stay a Pro-exclusive feature and don't plan to bring it to the base models anytime soon but that doesn't mean they can't give the base iPhones a fixed 90Hz (or maybe even 120Hz if they're feeling generous) display while keeping the LTPO ProMotion exclusive to the Pros. It would make there be an even bigger difference in battery life between the base models and the Pros since the screens on the base models would draw more power thus giving you more incentive to buy the Pro rather than giving you less incentive. Or hell, maybe they even bring ProMotion to the base models but make it the gimped 24Hz LTPO like the iPads and MacBooks have and they go all the way down to 1Hz for the Pros like most Android phones have, I don't fucking know. Why does the iphone "pro" not have the option to lock white balance for videos? Posted: 31 Mar 2022 02:26 PM PDT You can put your phone on a tripod and just moving around the room with the tripod stationary can drastically change the white balance. It's a simple addition that there's no excuse to leave out on something with the word "pro" attached to it. [link] [comments] |
iOS is missing an important security feature Posted: 31 Mar 2022 04:51 PM PDT iOS security would be increased considerably if Apple added a way to lock apps with the PIN code or Touch ID/Face ID. Currently, if your phone is unlocked, there's no way to prevent someone will have access to your data, photos, emails, etc. This is causing issues for many users who have their unlocked phones stolen. Someone walking on the street using their phone might see it get snatched by thieves. Other example are car drivers, who have to unlock their phones to use the GPS feature, and might be robbed in traffic. In recent times, there have been cases in Brazil of people who had their phones stolen, and the thieves emptied their bank accounts, with losses up to US$ 15,000. Many people also lose access to their email, Google and social media accounts, because the thieves are able to change their passwords. If iOS had a feature to optionally lock access to sensitive apps, it would be able to prevent these issues. [link] [comments] |
