Megathread: Apple announces partnership with AMD, will close Apple Silicon division Posted: 01 Apr 2022 04:56 AM PDT Today Apple held a round table discussion where they announced a new long term partnership with AMD for all their CPU and GPU needs. The plan is to transition all Apple products, over time, to AMD's x86 platform and move away from ARM-based silicon. Some key quotes from the discussion: Tim Cook:
Craig Federighi:
John Ternus:
Phil Schiller:
Kevin Lynch
Deidre O'Brien
Johny Srouji was not available to comment but was seen walking around Apple Park mumbling various obscenities. Finally, to close out the meeting, Phil Schiller was asked, "considering how many people love your custom Apple Silicon designs, how could you possibly consider making a move like this?" Schiller got a slight grin on his face, a twinkle in his eye, and gently answered, "courage." Edit: Whelp April Fools Day r/Apple. For those in the comments saying mods should get a job, I jammed this stupid post out on the subway on the way to doing hospital palliative care all day, so thanks for really brightening my morning (and for the suicide alert) before I spend all day with dying patients and angry family members. Anyway hope it at least gave some people a smile. [link] [comments] | ||
