    OS: MacOS Monterey version 12.2.1

    Description of problem and symptoms: I wanted to convert youtube video to mp3. I opened y2mate.is site and entered youtube url into it. A dmg file downloaded automatically. I mistakely clicked on it and it got installed. Then, terminal opened and it ran some commands. Since then, my default search engine on chrome has been changed to bing. Once in a while, a dmg file will be downloaded automatically. Random anti virus sites and other irrelevant sites will open itself in chrome. These tabs won't even close until i click the cross sign several times.

    Things I've tried: I cleared all cache and history from chrome. I deleted the downloaded dmg files. I changed the default search engine back to google. I then restarted the laptop but nothing changed even after the restart. The search engine went back to bing, chrome opens random websites from time to time, dmg file gets downloaded automatically. Then, I uninstalled chrome, reinstalled it but same above symptoms persists.

    External drive keeps disconnecting

    Hi guys! I have a very strange issue which I am trying to resolve for couple of weeks now.
    I had a macbook 12 which I used with an external usb-c HDD. I have recently bought mb air 13 (2021, macos 12.2) and I seem to have issues with said external hdd. It only connects after a while (30+ seconds) and it keeps on disconnecting. The transfer is extremely slow (even opening a folder takes a moment).
    Strange thing is, that this HDD works fine with mb12, I also tried it with mbp16 and with another mba 13 and it works without any problems. I thought I may have a port issue in my mba, but I tried a few different external HDDs and SSDs and they all work fine...

    did anyone ever experienced such a strange issue?

    Monterey PAINFULLY Slow Bootup

    Hey all,

    Just wanted to throw this post up here to see if anyone was experiencing the same thing, or had any advice..

    We have 4 computers in my office, all on Monterey 12.2, and 3/4 of them have a painfully slow boot up. Its ironic that the one that works the best has the most Login Items and the messiest desktop, and the ones that are having problems are very clean and organized.

    Would there be an Application that we all have in common causing this? Some of the computers affected are basically brand new (Not M1). Mine is one that is affected but it is the Trashcan Mac Pro from 2013, so I'm not terribly surprised.

    Go back to Big Sur? Not sure what to do.

    Definitely not one of those Apple users that stomps my feet and huffs & puffs when something like this happens, I'm just genuinely wondering if I should just leave Monterey? Would be a shame.

    Is there a way to use Parallels without paying?

    I noticed that some OSs are for free use in parallels and I know that there was a lite edition. But I still need to pay if I want to use the free distributions. I don't want to run windows with it.

    Dear Microsoft Teams users on M1 laptops, is it true that Teams drains out the battery much quicker?

    As of this point, I read that Microsoft is finally working on a native Teams app for a month now (god knows when it will be released though), but for the moment, it's still using Intel.

    Since my job requires me to use Teams all day, can you guys share your experience, specifically battery-wise?

    MacOS Big Sur, track pad moves cursor, but doesn't register clicks. I have no mouse.I have reset both SCM and PRAM. System Preferences -> Track pad -> One-Finger Click is off. Computer like this is unusable, what can I do?

    Problems with the SMC

    I bought a macbook pro from 2018 a while ago, it came with an error: the webcam doesn't work and the keyboard light doesn't work either. I understand that it is a problem with the SMC of the computer. I have restarted it several times, in all possible ways and when I get to the terminal it gives me an error.

    Does anyone else have this problem? I've heard that a lot of people do.
