    I would like to participate in video meetings from my office with minimal disturbance to my office mates, so I would like to use my headphones for audio output. However, my headphones have a terribly shitty microphone, so I would like to keep using my MacBooks integrated microphone and just mute myself whenever I don't have anything to say.

    Unfortunately, as soon as I plug my headphones into my MacBook, the option to use the integrated microphone vanished from my audio settings and my MacBook only allows me to use the headphones' microphone.

    Is there some way to get around this problem? I'm using a MacBook Air from 2015 with MacOS Version 12.0.1.

    Changing default icons? Specifically folder icon.

    I am revamping the looks of my MacBook Pro. I currently have Monterey 12.2 installed. I am wanting to change the default folder icon to be a dark black version of the current blue folder icon. I know you can go to 'get info' and paste your icon there, but I was curious if there was a way to change the default icon on the system so I don't have to go through every folder and change it one by one. If that makes sense.

    Let me know if you have any ideas! I am capable of understanding computer savvy talk, so if there is a way to change it through a terminal or some hidden file somewhere, all I ask is just for step-by-step instructions!

    Regarding mail macOS and mail iOS

    Hello,

    Today I encountered a behavior I have never encountered before, and I cannot find a legit answer to this problem.

    In a hotel lobby, iPhone 12 & 13 are both receiving & sending emails w/ the mail app while connected to the hotel wifi. An icloud & gmail account.

    But using a mac, (both M1 mac, latest macos), neither of them are able to connect to imap or smtp, on the hotel wifi.

    When the macs were tethering to the iphones, mail is working fine.

    I was thinking that maybe for some reason the ISP or the hotel is blocking some ports. But how are the iPhones able to connect while on the hotel wifi, and the the macs are not ?

    Minecraft doesn't work on my Mac Air M1 :(

    I know nothing about Macs, or Minecraft (or reddit for that matter), but I have a MacBook Air, with an M1 chip. Every time I open Minecraft, it crashes, and come up with "error code 6." Can anyone help me or know where the problem is coming from? Thank you!

    APFS drive erase - diskutil secureErase needed?

    Do I need a "securely erase" with diskutil secureErase 0 or sth or simply erasing the drive is enough? I want to erase the data of the macbook so, that it is not possible to recover it anymore. Which way I should go?

    Full Disk Access allows access to other user files?

    Does anyone know what the limits are for Full Disk Access? I have a personal laptop that I'd like to use for work and some required software needs FDA. I want to segregate things in a separate (non-admin) work user, but will this prevent FDA from accessing anything to do with my non-work account?

    I'm coming from an R&D setting in ML where all my work was done in jupyter notebooks with a windows machine and gpu on my desk. I'm not working with linux machines on google cloud from a new macbook pro (which I must say is very sexy).

    A guy I work with showed me how to set up some shortcut alias' commands in .aliash.sh file which I reference in a .bashrc file. I'm not sure what's going on under the covers, but somehow this .bashrc file is allowing me to use the shortcut commands I made in my .alias.sh file.

    I'm now doing the same thing for my windows machine but things seem different. People mention zsh is pretty much the improved version of bash but that you should create your commands in a .bash_profile or .zshrc file. So far, I pretty much just copied all my shortcuts from my .alias.sh file in my linux environment to a .zshrc file on my mac but I feel like I don't know what I'm doing.

    Could someone give me a breakdown and best practices? It would be much appreciated!

    Paste a Folder into Multiple Folders

    Online I see scripts for the automator that allow you to copy a file and paste into multiple folders but what about copying a FOLDER and pasting into multiple folders?

    I do file management for an operation and I'm creating tool kit folders for about 60 individuals. I have to constantly paste a folder into each of their tool kits one by one and it's such a waste of time.

    External DAC appears as "NO NAME" Volume

    So I just hooked up my new external amp-DAC (Aiyima A08) to my Mac running MacOS Monterey 12.2.1. Although the output sound is set to USB, there is still a "NO NAME" volume that seems to be mounted when connecting the DAC via USB-A. The sound works perfectly fine and I'm happy with it, but that mounted volume really bugs me and I can't get rid of it; every time I eject it, it re-appears right away. Any thoughts on how to remove it? Also, is there a way to rename the output hardware name?

    Hi I wanted to ask all of you for help with this annoying issue of Macos,as you can see I have 24 hours of usage, but the real screen on time does add up to 2 hours at most.I've tried to turn off screen time and also tried closing all apps,it still counts screen off as screen on(lid closed charging)

    I have a CMP 5,1 and upgraded to Monterey without knowing the legacy BT/WIFI would no longer work. When I try to revert back to my Big Sur backup via recovery I'm given a message I need to use Migration Assistant and/or reinstall the OS if necessary. What's the best way to go about this?

    macOS Monterey vs. Google Chrome vs. Font Book

    Hi All. I apologize in advance if this has been posted already.

    I just got a brand new mac running on Monterey 12.2 and so far I love it. I started downloading the basics to work like the Adobe Creative Cloud and Google Chrome. I downloaded some fonts as well since I needed them to finish up a project in inDesign.

    This morning when I open up Chrome, my home page is looking a little weird. Almost as if someone changed my settings into a different language. I searched what was wrong with it and finally got technical support and why my home page was looking funny.

    "Turns out for some reason your fonts get mangled and if you look they're all one character off in reverse. Ie S will show as R. If you reset your fonts it should do it"

    I went ahead and reset my fonts and voila! My home page went back to normal. However, I need those fonts for inDesign so I installed them again, hoping that my home page won't go back to the weird random characters. It did, now I don't know what to do because I really need those fonts to be installed so I can deliver this project. It sucks because I love using Chrome.

    Any ideas on how to fix the issue with the fonts on Chrome? Is it time to say goodbye to Chrome and start using Safari or other search engine?

    Hide screen recording icon

    I have a MacBook running Monterey and when I record my screen there's a recording icon at the top.

    Is there a way to hide it while still recording fullscreen?

    What's the oldest Macbook that can run the latest version of MacOS?

    Apologies if this is a dumb question, or potentially worded in a weird way - but basically I want to buy a macbook that is an older model, but still supported updates-wise

    I own a copy of Logic Pro, but I can't install it because my Mac Mini is too old to get new updates, so I'm just kind of stuck currently

    I'm guessing any Macbooks before 2010 are a definite no-go, but I'm not sure exactly where the cutoff point is

    Any advice appreciated, many thanks!

    Cant check box for Universal Control

    I have an M1 Pro Max MacBook Pro, and an M1 iPad Pro. When I go to settings and to the Universal Control settings, the "Allow your cursor and keyboard..." field is shown, and there's a checkbox next to it. However, I cannot check the checkbox. Its not that the control is ghosted/unavailable. The box highlights when I click it, but it does not change state to "checked" when I click it. Am I missing something here?

    How to change video file names?

    I get the rename option is available but I've downloaded a video from the internet and even after I've renamed it when I open in the VLC media player the name is still shows as "xyz.x265" for example.

    How do I change this as well?

    New Update Hanging?

    I woke up to a hung update status bar. I didn't see any new updates scheduled but now there's an update going and has been sitting at the same completion percent (apparently) for at least 3 hours.
    Did I miss a huge new update that should be locking my computer for many hours?

    How to disable automatic switch to desktop on incoming calls?

    Whenever I'm watching a full screen video/movie and I recieve an incoming call MacOS automatically switches to the desktop. I hate this behaviour because I want to pause the video before answering the call and in order to do that I have to go back to the app and then pause it.

    Is there a way to disable this automatic switch? Ideally I would just pause the video and then answer the call.

    Can anyone convert System 7 sounds to MP3?

    I have a recording of a conversation between my late husband and myself. My only one. It was from 1999 and no longer plays with the current OS. I'm absolutely heartsick and desperate to hear his voice again.

    Is there any way someone or even myself can convert it so I can hear him again?
