Why is the OS not returning swap to the RAM? Posted: 18 Feb 2022 12:46 AM PST My apologies if this seems simplistic. I have a 13" M1 MBP running MacOS 12.2. At the end of the week, I routinely quit all of my work apps freeing up a significant amount of RAM. Currently, here's how my memory usage looks like: Memory Used: 5.66GB Cached Files: 2.27GB Swap Used: 999.3MB I only have Safari open, so why won't the OS free up memory and return everything stored on swap back to the RAM? Apple Mail - absolutely horrible search function Posted: 17 Feb 2022 06:52 AM PST Anyone else have problems with searching your emails on Mail? I love everything about the interface as compared to other programs but the search function is horrible, inaccurate and often just does not come up with results. I am "rebuilding" the inbox now but I tried this before to no avail. [link] [comments]

Posted: 18 Feb 2022 12:48 AM PST I am using Mail on Mac OS 12.0.1. I have a webmail system that I access via the Mail app. My webmail storage is basically full, and I want to archive old messages but not delete them. I have selected the relevant folder in my inbox, gone to Export Mailbox, and created .mbox files for the two folders in question. Is that all I need to do? Can I now delete the original emails? How do I access them again in future if I need to? Any help appreciated. If this is not the right sub, any advice on where to pose this question would be appreciated. [link] [comments]
cmd + ctrl + O to open current folder in tab Posted: 18 Feb 2022 12:37 AM PST I used to be able to do that in finder: click on empty space of a folder in finder, cmd + ctrl + O to open a tab / new windows in the current directory I wonder why they disable that in Monterey? They should in any way put an option to allow opening tab in the SAME folder. May I ask is there any better way to do this? I end up have to use automator script to open a tab in the current folder (and also open a terminal in the current folder) The default Mac provided requires you to click on a folder, but I want to do it in the current folder! This is kind of annoying for YEARS... any suggestion would help. Thank you. [link] [comments]
How do apps start on login without being in Login Items? Posted: 17 Feb 2022 06:29 PM PST I like keeping my login really clean, just starting a few key utilities but otherwise keeping it nice and fast. Ideally this is just a matter of policing Login Items, but I've noticed some apps manage to bypass this, which is annoying. The most recent example I've found is the Epic Games Launcher. By default, it launches at login, but not through Login Items. To turn it off, I have to go to a setting in the app. How do apps do this, and is there a way to prevent it? [link] [comments]

Anyone else having problems with the Monterey 12.2.1 update? Posted: 17 Feb 2022 03:31 PM PST I have attempted to update three times now ; the whole download—OS check—reboot taking half an hour each time, and when I reboot, oddly the macbook seems to shutdown (black screen, no fan making noise), I press the power button for 10 secs and it resumes the update (which takes forever), boots up, then tells me I still have an update available (and About still shows v12.1). Otherwise my mbp works totally fine, brand new from last year. Is this a joke or what? I have work to do. edit: looks like 4th time's the charm — maybe it's because I decided to unplug all external monitors/disk drive/etc. but this time the screen did not go blank and the update could complete. If you have a 13" MacBook, which resolution option do you use? Posted: 17 Feb 2022 09:54 AM PST I'm currently testing out the More Space option. Being able to squeeze a couple more lines of text onto the screen is actually pretty nice, though I've noticed that the system animations have gotten significantly laggier on my 2018 MBP since I switched to this option. Just curious if you guys are using Default or More Space (or whatever else if you're that kind of monster). Appreciate your input! [link] [comments]
Private Relay is turned off for “%@” on Mac Posted: 17 Feb 2022 01:44 PM PST Has anybody found a solution for this error? For me private relay seems to have broken when I briefly used TunnelBear VPN earlier today. I got a banner notification saying that Private Relay would be turned off upon connecting using the VPN service, but I've been unable to reenable it since. Even though there's a checkmark next to private relay in the iCloud menu, clicking options reveals that private relay is disabled for my current network. Clicking the button to reenable it does nothing and it's the same for all networks I've tried. The solution given in this thread doesn't really work. All it does is remove the error, but it still means private relay is actually disabled: https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/qnhe7i/private_relay_is_turned_off_for_error/ To add insult to injury, all of this has also caused the Mail app to quit automatically loading images. Now I have to manually load them for every single email, which is a major ball ache. I've since deleted TunnelBear and all the files it's left behind that I could find, removed and readded the WiFi connection in the network settings, tried resetting my network setting by deleting some files according to a guide I found online and of course rebooting the computer. Does anybody know how I could go about fixing this? I'm pretty close to just reinstalling the OS, but I'm not even sure this would get fixed by a simple reinstall. It would be massively annoying if it turned out I needed to do a full wipe. I'm running MacOS 12.2.1 on a 2021 MacBook with an M1 Pro. Help plz :( [link] [comments]

Looking for an internal recorder any Recommendations Posted: 17 Feb 2022 04:50 PM PST Looking for an internal recorder for a Mac so I can record via Audacity the electronic music I made. Any recommendations that won't my laptop computer? [link] [comments]
Unable to send attachments through iMessage Posted: 17 Feb 2022 03:54 PM PST It appears many have this issue. I've been reading some started having it since Catalina. To be honest, I don't remember when it started. I hoped it'd get fixed on its own but it's frustrating having to create duplicates which I often forget to delete just to share files with others and it's been so long and still not working. Has anyone solved this issue on Monterey? M1 Mac Book Pro running great, just this issue. [link] [comments]
Apple Calendar Multiple Windows & Tabs Posted: 17 Feb 2022 03:28 PM PST Okay, this may be a moronic question, but how do you open multiple calendar windows in the Calendar app? It seems like it should support this, as it even has a tabs feature. But I can't figure it out. The "View" menu has a show tabs, which shows a calendar tab. The "Window" menu shows Cmd-0 for "Calendar", but no other options for other windows. I found this, which seems to describe how to do it but double-clicking calendars only lets me edit the name not open a new window for just that calendar. What am I missing here? Monterey: USB-A drives not waking properly after sleep. Contents not visible until restart Posted: 17 Feb 2022 06:40 AM PST I'm on 12.2.1 and it appears that the update has introduced a situation where external drives attached through the USB-A port don't wake properly (my SSD external on the USB-C bus acts correctly). The drives show proper usage data, but the files are not visible. The only fix is to restart. They are attached directly to the ports, so there's no hub in the way. Does anyone know if this is a known issue, or have a solution? If it helps, the drives are WD. EDIT: Trying to unmount using Disk utility returns a "currently in use" message [link] [comments]

Apple Calendar: Repeated email reminders Posted: 17 Feb 2022 09:07 AM PST Hey everyone. So, I have Apple Calendar set up to remind me via notifications for most of the time but for those things that are a little way off I get them to email me instead - that way I can flag them so I don't forget. Anyway, I'm finding that I get repeated emails. I have one set up to remind me about car insurance in 2 weeks time. The reminder is set up to remind me 14 days before at 12:00am. And it emailed me, reminding me of it, at 7:15, 7:45, 8:26, 9:36, 13:04, 16:29 and 16:58. I suspect it will keep going unless I turn off email notifications. Does anybody know why this happens and if there's a way to stop it? [link] [comments]

Posted: 17 Feb 2022 06:35 AM PST Hi ! I'm selling my Macbook Pro Retina 2015 (OS Catalina) and I want to reset it to factory settings. For some reason, it refuses to boot in recovery mode so I went to the iCare center and they tried every known combination of keys and nothing does it, not even with an external keyboard. So they created another admin account and from that one, they deleted mine. Is there a way to make sure my data is completely wiped ? Thanks ! [link] [comments] |
