Force check for updates in the macOS App Store Posted: 02 Feb 2022 05:14 AM PST Hi! I'm new to macOS and Apple ecosystem. Just a few weeks ago have bought my first MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021 with M1 Max) to simplify my web development workflow. I was wondering how do I force macOS App Store 3.0 (1006.3.5) in macOS 12.2 Monterey to check for app updates? I tried searching for answers in the official documentation, on forums and various help sites, but found nothing relevant apart for very old guides for previous macOS versions like 10.14 on how to just force macOS App Store to check for app updates. To make my question a bit clearer. On Windows 11 in Microsoft Store there is a button "Get updates", on Google Play Store there is a button "Check for updates", on iOS App Store there is a swipe down action on the profile screen to force check for updates. Not to install updates, not to install one update, but simply to force that check. How can I do that same thing? If there isn't any direct way to do this, how does App Store gets this information, after system boot, when I launch App Store app, or like checks every five minutes or once a day at specific time? Thanks for any help! [link] [comments]

Is it possible to output audio to Homepods AND USB speakers at the same time? Posted: 02 Feb 2022 05:09 AM PST Is it possible to output synced system audio to some Homepods AND a USB Audio device from macOS? I've tried Audio MIDI Setup, Airfoil, and Loopback but the options seem to be limited to airplay or wired setups but can't send audio to both at once. Any help is appreciated, thanks! Posted: 02 Feb 2022 02:33 AM PST Whenever I do uni work the pdf files I download don't always save the latest changes, and sometimes it only saves half the changes. Sometimes it works perfectly and sometimes it doesn't save changes at all. Why is that? [link] [comments]
Early 2009 iMac (2.66ghz 24in) runs better on Catalina! Posted: 01 Feb 2022 08:34 PM PST Hey Guys! After inheriting a few B&W G3's 3 years ago, ive become something of an apple "collector"... i bought a 2009 iMac 24" from my job for fun, cost me about 120$ but it was fully upgraded and has not even a single scuff or scratch on it. Here are the specs. Core 2 Duo 2.66ghz 8gb 1067mhz ddr3 256gb silicon power SATA ssd This machine, along with its max MacOS El capitan, and ill be honest, ran like ass. Safari and chrome both struggled to playback video at 480p in some circumstances, and on some off days they would both just hang. Well after a little work from DosDude1 (Who I honestly probably owe a beer or three) and his patcher, My 13 year old iMac can now playback 1080p60fps YouTube video in safari with no external programs or addons! Im going to try this next on my daily Macbook Pro 2010 so wish me luck. Ill post picture of both machines and give some actual "numbers" once im done fooling around with it. Stay fuzzy! Where can one download macOS delta updates ? Posted: 02 Feb 2022 01:43 AM PST There are many macs at my place and limited data service, is there a way to download macOS delta updates and apply them to the macs in my house? (without buying macOS server which can serve many updates to macs on the same LAN) [link] [comments]

Question about Preview PDF Metadata Posted: 02 Feb 2022 12:07 AM PST Suppose I downloaded a PDF from website A and I look at the metadata, see the PDF producer is abcdefg. Suppose my friend downloaded a PDF from the same website and sends me the PDF. The PDF producer is still abcdefg and the creation date and modification date are identical. Does this confirm that my friend's PDF is from website A and has NOT been modified in any way? Or is it possible to say, modify the PDF via any of the PDF apps and still retain the original metadata. Tip: How to get a black menu bar while maintaining transparency in Dark Mode! Posted: 01 Feb 2022 11:26 PM PST Hello! As a new Mac user (M1 MacBook Air, after 5 years on a PC), I wanted to make the most of the OS and customise it as much as possible. Of course I've been coming across a few obstacles, one of which was trying to customise my menubar to my liking. Apparently a common issue after the Big Sur upgrade is that Dark Mode doesn't alter the colour of the menu bar; it remains tinged by the wallpaper beneath it, which I personally didn't like. The solution many offered here was to go into Accessibility in System Preferences and in the Display Section, check "Reduce Transparency", which would then turn the menu bar black in colour. Problem is that it would remove the transparency in the entire interface (Safari, Finder, right-click menus, etc.) which I want to preserve. Then I found this open-source app called TopNotch, made for users of the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros who don't like the conspicuous webcam notch. It simply turns the menu bar black, and works with any system running macOS 11.0+. Also works for hidden menu bars, of course! I hope this helps someone! Also why does this read like a bad testimonial? lol [link] [comments]
Quite a noticeable "bug" when updating my Mac. Posted: 01 Feb 2022 10:46 PM PST So I don't know if it just happens with my MacBook, But sometimes when I disturb the settings window while it's updating MacOS, (Like for example, Managing my desktop.) It just deletes the update. So if I go back to the Software Updates tab, I have to restart that monster size of an update. This also happens when restarting. It's probably a reasonable reason when I restart the mac, But not when I switch out of the Software Update tab for a sec. Does this ever happen to you? It puts me under so much pain because I have a painfully slow internet connection. [link] [comments]
