Posted: 01 Feb 2022 05:11 PM PST So I'm on a very tight budget and trying to decide what would be smarter for my situation, what do you guys think? I have an iPhone 7 that works besides it barely charges. Cleaning the port doesn't help and it needs to be replaced, which will cost $60. Eventually I'm sure my battery will need to be replaced as well which will be another $60 I'm on sprint and since they're switching to 5g T-Mobile they said I can trade in my 7 for a 12 for $280 What do you guys think I should do? Spend for the repairs for the 7 or spend $280 on the 12 If replacing the charger port and the battery solved everything and the phone lasted me indefinitely than I would definitely do that, but I don't know how long iPhones typically last Thank you [link] [comments] | ||

| iPhone liquid detected and charging Posted: 02 Feb 2022 07:26 AM PST Two hours ago I received the message that there was liquid detected in the lightning connector. I first did wrong and used a hairdryer to dry it… If I plug it in now, it's charging and I don't get a liquid detection message but if I then plug it out and in again nothing happens and I have to reset it so that it charges again. I'm not sure whether that means that there's still liquid, I destroyed something with the hairdryer or the software is just not working well? I'd really appreciate any help! [link] [comments] | ||

Posted: 01 Feb 2022 06:15 PM PST Not sure if it's a bug in iOS or an option I can turn on/off When I make a phone call and put the phone to my ear the screen goes black. When I take it away to hang up or put it on loud speaker it stays black. I can hit the side lock button or tap the screen and nothing happens. I looked at all my open apps and none of them were close to that website, including any chrome or safari tabs I had open. Today when waking up I noticed that my phone logged 8 hours (still going up at this moment) for a different website. Again, no apps or chrome/safari tabs indicate that website being open. For apps that require fingerprints (banking, crypto) can the thief create a fingerprint in settings and then gain access, or will those apps only recognize the fingerprint that I created? | Good vendors for used iPhones? Posted: 01 Feb 2022 09:32 PM PST It happened today. I set my phone down at a store and forgot it. When I got home I checked with Find My Phone on iCloud and I could see that it was somewhere I hadn't been, just up the street from where I was. For some time it was just around the corner from my house so I went over there to investigate, but by the time I got there it was miles away. A few hours of tracking and I could see its path, taking it into some rather seedy neighborhoods. I did mark it as 'lost' online, so at least they won't be able to do anything with it. A police report has been filed FWIW, but I figure that it's a goner. I also put a message on screen with a secondary phone number and a message to return it to the store where they picked it up, and they did call me, but hung up before I could answer. I don't know if they're bright enough to realize that there isn't a damn thing they can do with this device since it's locked, and I assume that it'll just get flipped to some other idiot for $20. It was nothing fancy, just a well cared for 128GB 6S Plus in a nice leather case. I bought it after the 7 came out, so even when it was new it was old. It has served me well, and I'd been thinking of upgrading, but now isn't the time - I'm broke and unemployed (and needed the phone for interviews!) and really don't have the money to drop on a new phone right now. Since I don't buy the latest and greatest, and don't upgrade frequently, I could probably get by just fine with a used phone. Although I like the size of the Plus it really isn't necessary, so even a 7 or 8 would probably be acceptable; if I can swing it I figure that a 2020 SE would be ideal and would last me for years. At this point I need to find out where the best deals are for used iPhones. Does anyone here have a preferred vendor or website? I've seen plenty of places online, but who do I trust? Also, when it's unlocked, I don't mind if it vibrates or not, but I want to see the notification banner on the top. None of the settings seem to do this. If I make it so I can see notifications, it is also accompanied by the vibration regardless of whether the screen is locked. She has an older iPhone, either an SE or 6s - I have no idea how to tell because I'm an Android guy and I can't get into the phone's settings to see. Here's the front & back pictures of the phone so y'all can help me figure that out, thanks! So, the phone is incredibly old and has lots of old pictures on it. She obviously doesn't remember the passcode and therefore can't access any of this older stuff. There are some really nostalgic things on this phone that she wants to regain access to and I believe iCloud wasn't a thing back then, if it was she didn't upload it to her iCloud. Or maybe she did and we don't know how to check that...idk? I looked up a few methods of unlocking the phone but they all restore factory settings to the phone and delete all the data. It seems to only really affect high quality videos where the camera is panning. Videos where the subject is still are mostly fine. I've reset my Face ID twice but it still seems like it doesn't work that well. I've tried different angles and even removed my screen protector in case it was covering the camera sensors. I have an issue with the call quality with my iPhone 12 - I can hear my voice when I am speaking and there is a strange echo, it's very unpleasant experience. I tried getting it out with a needle but I got the surface part off but I can still see the bottom part of the piece stuck. I tried using compressed air to no avail.
