PSA: Don't use "Show this iPhone when on Wi-Fi" in iTunes/Finder if you value your battery Posted: 23 Feb 2022 03:41 PM PST For the past ~18 months, I have been fighting battery life issues with my 2nd gen iPhone SE. As in, the battery would be drained to 25% from a full charge with minimal usage (10-15 minutes of screen time per hour) in eight hours. After multiple visits to the genius bar ("there's nothing wrong with your battery"), we had a flood in the house and my battery problem magically disappeared. A couple of months later, I had replaced all of my possessions (including my MacBook Pro that was lost in the flood) and the problem came back. Lightbulb moment! I had previously backed my phone up to my Windows box but finally got frustrated with the lack of integration on that platform so I migrated over to my Mac. I saw the "Show this iPhone when on Wi-Fi" setting and thought it would be cool, checked it and never thought about it again. As it turns out, that was a bad idea as that's a huge battery drain if you're home most of the time on the same WiFi. Especially if you're in an area of the house where the signal isn't as strong as you'd like. TL;DR: Turning on "Show this iPhone when on Wi-Fi" in the Finder is a huge battery suck to small iPhones. Free 6 months of Apple Music code (new users only) Posted: 23 Feb 2022 10:59 AM PST Hey all, I just bought a brand new MacBook Pro from Best Buy during the President's Day sale. Unfortunately, I can't use it anymore because it is only for new subscribers. So here I'm to bless any new Apple users out there or just anyone who would like to give Apple Music a try. Here's the code: 7NWFY3HRJTXL Good luck! EDIT: CODE HAS ALREADY BEEN CLAIMED. [link] [comments]

How many people can’t downgrade extra iCloud storage? Posted: 22 Feb 2022 09:23 PM PST This is now the second time, on a second account, that I cannot downgrade iCloud storage. My mom asked me to downgrade hers and, just like when I tried to downgrade mine (I eventually gave up, because dealing with apple support is not worth the $2.99 I'll save), it's impossible. I've been texting with apple support for over 30 min and now they want a phone call tomorrow. They refuse to cancel the subscription and say it needs to go to their phone support team. I make more than a dollar an hour, so the $12/year my mom will save by canceling is simply not worth it. I've already spent more than that talking to them. Curious if this is a pattern other people have had issues with? It's awfully strange that it happened on my iCloud account years ago and now it's happening on hers. I can login to her iCloud account everywhere else EXCEPT where needed to cancel her storage. (And yes - I've done all the things, tried it in her iMac, updated her phone, reset network settings, tried it on Wi-Fi and cellular, etc.). Jokes on them though, because my mom wants to save her 99 cents a month and I'm going back home tomorrow (I live in a different city) and won't be able to take the phone call. If they think my 65+ mom can answer questions like "is there a VPN profile?" when she doesn't even know what a browser is, they're in for a fun time. Kinda wish I could listen in tomorrow for funsies. [link] [comments]
Why does’t iCloud sync CROP resolution/details for videos across devices? Posted: 22 Feb 2022 07:52 PM PST If you edit a video on one device (e.g. iPad) and crop the video using the default Photos app (e.g., apply square), the crop information doesn't sync across devices. Is there a trick or setting to force this piece of information to sync? It's really tedious to have re-crop tons of videos across all 3 of my devices (iPhone Pro Max, iPad Pro, MacBook Pro). [latest iOS on all devices, hundreds of GB free in the cloud storage] [link] [comments]
The “Apple Store” on Amazon is selling fake Magic Keyboards with numpad Posted: 22 Feb 2022 01:02 PM PST Howdy! I purchased a Magic Keyboard 2 with Numpad from Amazon here . As you can see, this listing is about as legit as it gets on Amazon. When I opened it, everything looked authentic & brand new, though when I started typing, I noticed the key presses didn't feel quite right; the key switches were…squishy? I was curious to see if maybe anyone else had noticed this, so I started reading reviews. I noticed a few reviews claiming they received fake keyboards (serial number unverifiable by Apple support). Now curious, I decided to contact Apple to verify my serial. I first texted Apple from messenger, they were unable to verify my serial number. They gave me a number to call to double check. I read, reread, they reread twice, & after quadruple checking the number was correct, it was unverifiable. They then stated the serial indicated a counterfeit product. I called Amazon support & returned the counterfeit, but not before writing "COUNTERFEIT PRODUCT" in big black sharpie on the box to ensure nobody else gets sent a fake $130 keyboard. I ended up purchasing another from the apple store directly. Real vs fake comparison: Here are images of the two (real one is top one). Other than the slight difference in imagine on the front of each box, the serial number, & the key switches, they're identical. I just wanted to warn others about this issue, as it's clear neither Amazon nor Apple is addressing/fixing this issue. [link] [comments] |
