As a parent of young kids, I am beyond thankful for Live Photos. Posted: 18 Feb 2022 08:47 AM PST I spend so much time going back through them. Hearing giggles, seeing first steps again, funny faces…Live Photos were a gimmick for me until I had kids (also great for dogs). [link] [comments]

Any “nostalgic” Apple fans here? Posted: 18 Feb 2022 07:20 AM PST Let me explain: for me, I can't get passed the feeling that my own Apple-adventure peaked around 2010. I LOVED my iPhone 3GS and MacBook Pro mid 2009. Granted, this was in my uni days so Im probably nostalgic for that reason as well. Simpler times and all but I feel like that setup was so great and exciting and that setup (an iPhone and a MacBook) is still what I use today (iPhone 12 and MacBook Air). I love apple and their products but I'm still not able to incorporate other Apple products into my life, even though I've tried. Any one else have a specific Apple timeline you are nostalgic about and has it affected the Apple products you use? Or is it just my crazy, nostalgic brain that prevents me from enjoying more of Apples awesome products.. Edit: Thanks for all your answers! Awesome to read all of your thoughts. Nice to see I'm not the only nostalgic here! [link] [comments]

Seems that Apple does the bare minimum to maintain iMovie Posted: 17 Feb 2022 05:52 PM PST No support for 60 FPS when video is in 4K, stabilization freezes up on M1 Max, poor discoverability of video quality settings, and countless little issues that add up. It doesn't look and feel polished. [link] [comments]
Apple Silicon never gave us the Mac App store that was promised. Posted: 17 Feb 2022 09:20 PM PST Remember how Apple touted that one of the big benefits of Apple Silicon was that all iPhone and iPad apps would be available for the Mac? Over two years later this seems not to be the case. Many of the most popular apps still remain completely abesent. Even apps that are in Apple's paid and highly curated Apple Arcade are not universally available. Whether this is because developers are unwilling to let their users deal with a bad experience using a poor Mac port of the app, or because Apple has yet to make a viable path to do so (despite its marketing to its own customers) the case remains that the Mac App store is heavily hamstrung compared to it's iOS counterpart. Basically, I'm upset that I can't pick up a Bloons TD6+ game on my Mac after starting it on my iPhone. [link] [comments]

SmartHDR settings don't preserve when uploading/transferring photo Posted: 17 Feb 2022 10:33 PM PST Hi, I took a bunch of photos with SmartHDR enabled on my Iphone 12. This made the whites super blown out which looked really nice in the photos, but my photos lose this "effect" whenever I upload them on Instagram or try transferring to my computer. I've tried sending it from phone->dropbox which sends as a .heic format as well as directly from phone-> computer in jpeg format. If I take a screenshot of the photo, the "effect" disappears and screen recording disables the "view full hdr" so the "Effect" is gone so I can't show the issue. [link] [comments]
Apple Mail - absolutely horrible search function Posted: 17 Feb 2022 06:53 AM PST Anyone else have problems with searching your emails on Mail? I love everything about the interface as compared to other programs but the search function is horrible, inaccurate and often just does not come up with results. I am "rebuilding" the inbox now but I tried this before to no avail. [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Feb 2022 12:30 AM PST It is such a stupid and unnecessary feature that is useless because it just makes photos 1: look worse and 2: adds hassle to taking a photo because you've gotta go and turn off the live photo I dont see the point of adding live photos, it's just stupid, all it does is occupy more space on your phone for no reason [link] [comments]
iTunes Match has wiped my star ratings! Posted: 18 Feb 2022 09:50 AM PST This is really frustrating. Star ratings are an invaluable part of my music curation, and now the only star ratings I have preserved are for songs that weren't picked up by iTunes Match. Needless to say, I'm incensed. The songs themselves are preserved, thankfully—as are the play counts—but the star ratings for all matched songs are completely gone! The latest iTunes backup I have is from 2018, which is, needless to say, woefully out of date. Please help me! [link] [comments]
How come most apps don’t read/write anywhere close to claimed/potential NVME speeds? Posted: 17 Feb 2022 02:28 PM PST So according to benchmarks, the 8TB SSD in the M1 max can hit 7355mb/s write and 5507 min/sec read, but in actual day to day use, I never see anything close to those speeds. Photoshop still takes forever to load and save large files, ableton is exhaustingly slow loading plug-ins and samples, installing programs still seems previous gen, etc. The only thing that is actually lightning fast seems to be duplicating large files in the finder. Is there a reason why apps don't seem to be able to utilize anywhere near the potential of these blazing fast drives, and is there a way to unleash more of their speed in general use?
