Left Airpod does not work with macOS Monterey

Left Airpod does not work with macOS Monterey

I have a Macbook Pro 13' 2019 and Airpods 2nd Gen (Latest version, 4C165). Airpods work fine with my iPhone. However, from last week, the left one does not play sound (right one works well), although they do pair with my Mac. I used another guy's machine and the Airpods work fine.

I am pretty sure it's the problem of my Macbook and it happened only a few days ago (I got last macOS update 1 month ago). I reset Airpods several times and it did not help. Could someone shed some light on this issue?

Escape Key not working in macOS? Easy fix!

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 01:08 AM PST

I've seen this issue with a lot of people, and it's actually quite simple to fix. Open activity monitor & terminate Siri. Siri will reopen & escape will be reenabled. Or, restart your Mac. Both options likely fix the problem. Here's a video explaining how to fix it.

Any way to make apps stop stealing “focus” when they launch or have alerts?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 12:54 AM PST

So if you launch an app that has a long spool up time (like iMovie), then go back to doing whatever it is you're doing, when it finally launches it'll automatically full focus to the front and any keystrokes will be made there, interrupting your workflow.

Is there any way (assuming a hidden preference you can set using the terminal?) to change this default behavior?

Is it normal that after I copied all the files from an external drive to another one, there are less files when counted on a Windows PC?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 04:39 AM PST

I have one external HDD and want to have a backup of it, so I got an external SSD.

I simply copy and pasted all the folders from the root of the HDD and pasted on the SSD. Directly from Finder, not from terminal with rysnc or some other way.

There is a difference though in the fact that the HDD is formatted as MBR ExFat and the SSD is GUID APFS.

When I press Cmd + I on the same folder on macOS on both drives, the number of files shown is the same.

BUT, if I verify the same thing on a Windows PC, the number of files is smaller on the SSD. For example, 25.209 on SSD vs 27.659 on HDD.

I am using Paragon for reading the APFS drive on Windows.

I am wondering if macOS didn't copy all the files. Or is it because of the format difference between the two drives?

Any idea why this is happening? Is this normal? Thank you.

How can we reset Safari into a "fresh user state"?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 03:40 AM PST

I've been using Safari on my iMac since half a year and the longer I use it, the more annoying bugs there are. At the same time, Safari works great on my MacBook. The bugs I experience on my iMac do not appear on the MacBook.

What's the easiest way to reset Safari on the iMac into a state which corresponds to that of a freshly created new user? I'm looking for something equivalent to rm -R ~/.safari on Linux (ofcourse there is no such directory). I'm not looking for removing saved passwords, clearing history, etc. (this won't reset Safari, just delete my personal settings, besides, I've already tried that).

Can we discuss how everyone organizes their files?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2022 11:26 PM PST

I have a lot of files, and exploit them on different systems (+ synchronizations on clouds) which prevents me (for example) from using the FINDER TAGs!...

How do you easily find what you are looking for and find your way around in your ranking?

Changed admin password. Fails. Unable to access unless CMD-V used????

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 03:11 AM PST

I was logged in as standard user, opened System Prefs and into users & groups. From there, I changed the admin password.

After (I thought) changing the admin password, I tried using the admin password, typing it in (correctly) but it failed. I tried it several times and I am certain I entered it correctly.

Oddly, if I type the new password into (eg) a notepad file, then do CMD-C to copy, then CMD-V to paste, that WORKS! ??

If I try to login to the admin account from system start, neither the old nor the new admin password works. I have to login as standard user, then do the above cut/paste trick where i need admin privs.

    1. Why might the above behaviour happen?
    2. How do I solve the basic problem of new admin password not working? Is it to do with keychain (which I don't use for password storage)? How to get back to being able to enter the admin password as usual?.

Safari - insert passwords into websites from keychain

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 01:39 AM PST

    Hello,

I am relative new to macOS. Using Safari as webbrowser and stored my passwords into keychain.

At the beginning I had to enter my password every time I want to fill in a password in safari, so I thought this is the normal behavior. After a few weeks this changed, I could insert passwords in safari without asking for the account password.

Now this behavior switches sometimes and I don't know why. Does anyone know when I have to enter my account password for credentials and when not?

    I'm using Monterey 12.1.

I found this support article, but the settings are not active.

M1 Mac Mini screen and sound issues

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 01:15 AM PST

I can't get my new M1 Mac Mini to work correctly with the resolution of my TV. Does anyone know if there is a fix?

I don't see any of the underscan/overscan options anymore and it's either super zoomed in or super far out.

Also, the sound is only going through as stereo and not through my surround sound.. HELP!

    It's on Monterey 12.1

Why are the pop out messages window so wide. Can't resize them properly even though the original messages window can resize to really skinny

    Posted: 22 Jan 2022 08:52 PM PST

it makes setting up a workspace so inconvenient. Perhaps I want to text a single person but why is the window so wide. Now I have to sacrifice perfectly good browser space.

Change the "Charger Connected" sound on USB-C MacBooks!

    Posted: 22 Jan 2022 02:44 PM PST

I quickly whipped up this .sh script and it can change the sound that plays when you plug in the charger. You MUST have SIP disabled, be on macOS 11+ (including Monterey), and the audio file must be .aif (there are online converters). Basically, its a crappy program that's just for laughs ;)

Edit: I bricked my own MBP's disk drive doing this. Do not do this if you don't know what you're doing!!! It is dangerous!!!

using Malwarebytes and Bitdefender together draining the battery?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2022 09:50 PM PST

I have problems with my Macbook pro M1 running very hot and the battery-draining very quickly.

I don't use it for anything much beyond browsing websites. I do have both Malwarebytes and Bitdefender installed and wonder if there are any reports of these two programs together (or individually) being responsible for heating and draining issues.

Newest hardware 10.6.8 can run on?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2022 05:10 PM PST

Long story short, my cousin has a 2011 iMac that bit the dust. I upgraded it to an SSD for him last year and it was running 10.6.8 because that's the latest OS version that supported the particular licenses of other software that he purchased, so he hasn't wanted to upgrade since it would force other EXPENSIVE purchases.

Unfortunately 2011 iMacs that aren't on their last legs seem to be harder to find these days.

So, my question is, what's the latest hardware that I could transplant that drive into and it would run without problems?
