LPT: Treat the battery as a consumable and quit worrying about it.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 12:41 PM PST

New battery is $49 or $69 dollars. Once every two years should be all you need and you can NEVER worry about battery health again, hell replace it annually if you feel like it.

Apple to Introduce Contactless Payment Service in iPhones

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 01:46 AM PST

I just got a new iPhone and I can’t figure out how to charge it. Can someone help me?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 11:45 AM PST

Sorry for what may be a ridiculously stupid question, but I live in a rural location and we are in the middle of a blizzard so I can't just drive into the city to go to a store and ask for help.

My old phone died, so I just ordered a new one and had it shipped overnight. I can't figure out how to charge it. What am I missing? The included cable plugs into the phone but not the wall. Thanks.

iPhone 13 Pro max is a treat for the eyes !

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 10:43 AM PST

I was using iPhone 11 since two years which is not in anyway a very old phone so I was skeptical about any upgrades for a couple of years. However I use iPhone heavily especially for reading books and browsing the net so I really liked the massive 6.7 inch screen on the 13 Pro max when I looked at the phone in the store.

Traded in my iPhone 11 and got the 13 pro max and it's been absolutely fabulous experience. I have to test the battery yet but the 120 hz Promotion display itself is worth the price. It's very easy on the eyes and I can go hours and hours reading without any strain. The camera is top notch and it's a really fast phone what else can I say!

I have had to cut down my expenses in the last 6 months so I could afford to buy this phone but I am just happy I took the decision. Besides Sierra blue is a great colour! ❤️

How much battery does your iPhone lose overnight?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2022 09:22 PM PST

I see everyone saying iPhones lose almost nothing on standby, but mine loses about 20% overnight when I haven't touched it all night.

Even if my Macbook Pro can't display HDR videos, can I still process them with iMovie and produce an HDR video that will display properly when later played in a computer that CAN display HDR?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 10:35 AM PST

I have a 2016 Macbook Pro (macOS Monterey). I know this model's built-in display can't handle HDR, so the HDR videos that I take on my iPhone 13 Pro Max won't look the same in it.

I'm not really in the position to buy a new Macbook Pro right now to be able to watch these videos, but I would like to keep using my phone to take HDR videos to be later edited in iMovie (10.3.1).

My question is—will I be able to produce a final HDR video through iMovie (well, through Final Cut Pro, as I learned here) using HDR videos even if my Macbook Pro can't technically display them properly? Will they look better when I later upgrade to a new Macbook Pro?

    Thanks!

Iphone 11 charging cord won't fit into the charging slot on the phone?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 02:37 PM PST

    Hello -

Today, I dropped my phone in the toilet. It was in the water for quite literally under 2 seconds. I got it out almost immediately. I put the phone in some rice, but honestly there was no mechanical damage. The phone works just fine.

However, now I just went to go charge the phone, but the cord will not fit into the slot. I don't want to force it, but it's just not going in. I tried using a toothpick to see if there may have been a bit of rice lodged in there, but nothing came out.

Anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Should I get the iPhone 13? OnePlus user here

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 06:57 AM PST

For $700? I currently have a OnePlus 8 (love the specs, battery is pretty good, camera is....meh). Or should I wait for iPhone 14? Would it be an upgrade from my OnePlus performance wise (other than camera)?

Any suggestions? I just don't like paying too much for a normal phone......as long as it's good value I'm happy

What color would you like to see as the “extra” color for the 14 Pro/Pro Max?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 01:36 PM PST

I love my Pacific Blue but I think it's time to go with something different for the next Pro/Pro Max.

I saw a render last year with an orange color and it looked really cool! What would you all like to see?

How do I transfer videos from my iPhone to my windows laptop?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 02:57 AM PST

Is it possible to transfer files from iPhone to my laptop? Can I buy some form of a splitter that allows my iPhone to transfer videos to my laptop using USB port? If not, what's the fastest free option to transfer files from iOS to windows? I'm using iPhone as a face cam for my YouTube videos.

Setting alarm for a future date. Need a solution

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 02:42 PM PST

    Hi all,

I have recently moved from Andriod to IOS. Andriod allows you to set an alarm for any future date at any specific time. The only thing I can see in IOS is reminders, however, it is a notification, not a full-fledge alarm.

I can't seem to be able to change the alarm tone for reminders either. My issue is I tend to ignore notifications when I am busy, but alarms I cannot ignore. So for important things I want to be able to set the alarm.

Is there a solution or workaround for this? Even if it is a 3rd party app?

I tried the Google Assistant app, this was of no help.

    TIA

How does changing icon packs/images work now ?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 12:08 PM PST

I haven't had an iPhone since I was 16 and I've been using android ever since. I've been thinking of switching back to iPhone just to switch it up. Regarding customizing your icons, do you still have to use images through shortcuts or can you download actual icon packs ?. Is there still that issue when opening a custom icon where you get the shortcut pop-up/notification ?.

On android you can simple just download icons packs without the need of extra steps. Has Apple made it a smooth process to customize since IOS14 ?

Also, are you still locked into using apple mail/safari or can you change the default browser/mail app also ?

    iCloud backups at night

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 07:16 AM PST

I keep hearing people say that to preserve battery we should not plug our phones in overnight like I have always done. There is a good reason to do it, however, because iCloud only backs up when on WiFi and plugged into power. At one time that was the only way photos would sync but I think Apple changed that a few releases ago.

Actually I just noticed an option to allow iCloud Backup over cellular, so maybe my argument is outdated. However, those of you who are not on unlimited data should definitely uncheck that setting and make sure you do plug your phone in while connected to WiFi.

I'm pretty sure with the change to make batteries only charge up to 80% and then finishing charging before you wake up that there are fewer issues caused by leaving a phone plugged in at night.

Why is monitoring cellular data usage so bad on iOS?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 12:41 PM PST

coming from android, it was pretty simple, you set your billing date, you set your data limit, and you would get accurate information on how much data you've used and it would send you a warning at your desired usage and turn it off completely at your desired limit.

I've been back on iPhone one month and I just got hit with $20 overage charge for using 37 MB more than my allowed data usage. This is infuriating, I was monitoring my usage from the settings app but apart from remembering to reset the statistics at the start of every cycle (super annoying) there is not good way to manage your data usage even remotely close to android.

This is honestly quite shocking that such a standard feature on other phones is so broken on iPhone when iPhone is supposed to make every thing simple and easy.

If anyone knows of a workaround or has some tips on dealing with this, please let me know!

Copy whole gallery to different iPhone with diff. appleID without iCloud?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 10:25 AM PST

Hi, I have lots of personal photos on my work i-phone as it had such a beautiful camera (silly, I know, but nothing inappropriate) and now I'm quitting my job and bought a new personal iPhone. I would like to transfer my photo from my work iPhone to my new iPhone, but I need to start a new Apple ID as obviously I can't keep accessing the work one.

All tutorials I found work on the basis that you have the same Apple ID OR are doing a cloud transfer - I don't have enough cloud on the original device to transfer the photos by far - my work cloud is 5GB but I have about 40 GB of photographs to transfer.

Any idea how to do this please? If I just plugged both phones into a windows computer and copy and pasted the relevant folders, would that work? Many thanks

    Calls Dropping on iOS 15.3

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 09:44 AM PST

Ever since I updated to iOS 15.3 I've had an issue with calls dropping and then I can't make another phone call until I restart the phone. I have tried resetting network connections to no avail. I'm on a 12 Pro Max. Anyone have any ideas before I mail it in and upgrade to the 13 Pro Max hoping to get rid of the issue? I really don't want to upgrade right now.

    Need a help/advice with iphone 11

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 08:09 AM PST

Basically i'm planning to buy an iphone 11. I know i should buy iphone13 but i'm a highschool student so i don't have that much money and a shop near me offers iphone 11 with relatively cheap price. I don't know if i should get 128gb or 64gb is enough. I want to use it at least until 2024. I know software updates take quite a lot of space, so i'm worried that 64gb would take up quick and i will end up getting new one quite fast. I'm an android user right now. Please give me your advice!

Query regarding Apple Trade in (online store)

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 09:27 AM PST

If you have experience in Apple Trade in (where you trade your old iphone with a new one) , esp in the online store - do they ask for your old charger and earpods too when they come for your old iphone?

I have a XS and am eyeing for iPhone 13 Pro and would like to Trade in - but i dont want to part ways with my charger and earpods.

(PS - i live in India - where physical Apple stores are a rarity but we do have online Apple store website.)
