Why does Apple’s “Strong Password” not meet most websites’ criteria

    Posted: 28 Jan 2022 07:03 PM PST

It's incredibly frustrating that the default iCloud Strong Password doesn't contain the main things that most sites are looking for (Uppercase, Lowercase, Number, and Special($&@?!)). Am I alone with this?

Keychain Passwords Missing [Not Tech Support]

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 08:37 AM PST

Let me be clear, I am NOT looking for tech support or answers for recovering lost passwords. I am simply curious to see:

    1. How many of you have experienced this problem? One day your password is there and the next day it is gone.

    2. Have any of you that have experienced this issue decides to completely abandon Keychain and move on to another password manager due to the frequency of the issue?

PSA: watchOS 8.4 does not fix permissions for shortcuts

    Posted: 28 Jan 2022 11:50 PM PST

In early watchOS 8, Shortcuts asked permission to "share data with null". Every time it ran.

Since 8.2, it knows the name of the service (no longer "null"). But it still doesn't remember previously granted permissions on the Watch. Does on iPhone/iOS.

watchOS 8.4 does not fix the issue. Still doesn't remember permissions.

iPhone 12Pro sent for R&D? Has anyone had this experience?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2022 10:44 PM PST

    EDIT: Australian Apple

Hi all, I cracked my 12Pro last weekend so I brought it in today for repair. The Genius did all the usual process until right before I handed my phone over he told me my serial was flagged and needed to be shipped to Sydney for further testing. I asked for more clarification and he said it's really just R&D and my serial has been called to be looked over by the devs.

I'm super annoyed because they said it can take up to 2 weeks, I didn't want to not get my phone fixed so I've sent it off now and they've given me a loan XR (brilliant). The crack was self explanatory, I literally dropped my phone on a piece of metal and told him that from the start, so I don't understand what else they need to diagnose from that.

I have a bunch of device specific work VPN/Login stuff I need my phone for, and now I'm going to have to set it up on this loan phone then again when I get my 12 back (they wiped my phone in the store)

Has anyone else had this experience? Is this going to keep happening every time I get my phone repaired? Is there anything else I should know/expect about the process?

EDIT: This is the confirmation of work I've received via email, doesn't really give any other explanation as so why it's been sent to depot

Problem Description/Diagnosis Issue: the customer states the following the device has multiple cracks on the display Steps to Reproduce: Verified at Genius Bar ran mobile resources inspector and it passed Face ID passed Cosmetic Condition: Multiple cracks on the display there is no sign of liquid damage from the 1st inspection Proposed Resolution: Replace display under the cost of apple care Customer has a loan iPhone Device has been sent to depot

Hints that the Apple Card could soon launch outside of the U.S.

    Posted: 28 Jan 2022 10:13 AM PST

On the earnings call yesterday, Tim Cook specifically mentioned Apple Card when asked about future products.

Q: Any customer segments you aren't tapping into currently?

A: Putting aside anything on our roadmap, we wouldn't talk about, I think Apple Card has a great runway ahead of it. It was rated the number-one midsize credit card in customer sat by JD Power. It's fast-becoming people's main credit card for many people. The growth of Apple Pay has been stunning. There's still a lot more there to go, and a lot of cash in the environment. I think that both of these and whatever else we might do have a great future ahead.

    Source: MacRumors

Appe has also recently expanded its presence in the City of London. In a building where they previously leased 2 floors for the Apple Pay team they have expanded to 5 floors as of November last year.

    Source: The Times

Coupled with the fact that Apple holds the trademark for Apple Card across Europe we could see a launch in the U.K. and other European countries soon.

Why can't Qualcomm and Mediatek catch up to Apple SoCs?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 11:15 AM PST

Asus ROG Phone 5 (SD888) user coming here in peace.

Saw the new benchmarks and looks like the new Snapdragon 8 Gen1 is the best SoC for mobile gaming. But it also runs like a hot volcano and the battery benchmarks I have seen are, well, uninspiring.

The Mediatek Dimensity 9000 seems very hyped but there's no actual benchmarks of it yet (I'm particularly interested in GPU and battery performance). Also Mediatek has a dubious history of cheating in benchmarks...

The future seems to look good for Android SoCs since Qualcomm will be moving back to TSMC and will also be experimenting with Nuvia cores. But do you think that will be enough to surpass Apple in SoC performance on mobile devices?

Because right now, Qualcomm and co are struggling for years to beat Apple and they cannot seem to compete.
