App integration to search and "Up Next", DirectTV Stream integration

    Posted: 24 Jan 2022 09:39 AM PST

Have searched, haven't found answers. Have a very old ATV, recently cut the cord and have Roku.

Wife and Mom have trouble keeping track of what we've watched, what service it's on (Hulu, Prime, DirecTV Stream, etc). Roku does not keep track of what you've watched in apps (i.e., "Up Next" doesn't show the next episode, because Roku doesn't know what you've watched). Does ATV?

Also, Roku search is very poor. Does ATV do a better job of searching app content?

Lastly, anyone know if DirectTV Stream app does well on ATV? I'm always suspicious of services kneecapping competitors' apps/services.

    Thanks! Alan

Fitness + Bluetooth limitation on older ATVs

    Posted: 24 Jan 2022 04:16 AM PST

    FYI,

I just put a TV in my workout room. I attached an older ATV that I usually use for an Airplay 2 target for my patio. It's the first ATV with an App Store. Anyway, I was doing a Fitness + workout, but also air playing to my AirPods. I noticed lag with the calorie numbers on the screen versus my watch. Eventually it just crapped out of the workout. Certainly the AirPods were one too many things, and never an intended use case for that processor. Perhaps the workout would have finished just connected to my watch.

I swapped in the ATV 4K (not the latest) from my TV room and everything was flawless. I finished a 45 minute workout with AirPods connected. There was no lag on the screen with stats.

I post this in case anyone is getting into Fitness + and opts for a used Apple TV. It's better to get a newer one if your use case is similar to mine.

BTW, I've been loving Fitness +.

    Swan Song technology

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 08:23 PM PST

Just finished watching Swan Song today. I think it's a great film. One thing I noticed is that all the future tech looked like Samsung tech instead of Apple's (round watches, ear buds shape, etc.) and the car brand has a big S on it. Just found it interesting there wasn't any direct hint at Apple products except for an iPad.
