Please can we have a reset button for Airdrop

    Posted: 02 Jan 2022 12:52 PM PST

Airdrop works like magic when it does work, unfortunately when it mysteriously does not work it's more frustrating than anything else because there's ZERO controls to fiddle with, you don't know why it's not working, you don't know what you need to do to get it working, there's just nothing you can do except to restart the device.

I understand there shouldn't be geeky control panels for this thing but couldn't they at least implement a "reset" button in the settings that resets airdrop? Like for example clear all currently ongoing airdrop tasks, clear all waiting lists, forget all recent connections, enable all wireless features required for airdrop. The idea is, whatever isn't working, after you press the button, you should 100% see the other device in your airdrop without any exceptions. Maybe make it also that after you press the button, it changes your airdrop settings to accept/detect everyone for 5 minutes, just to be safe?

Hi all, my wife and I are back with our little Sudoku puzzler!

    Posted: 02 Jan 2022 10:05 AM PST

    Hey all,

Thanks to the amazing folks on here (you!), we've listened to your feedback and hunkered down:

    • Coming very soon, we're adding a function to import puzzles from other sources, such as magazines, books, etc. which you can then solve using our design and customisation features.

    • Interactive hints are coming: no more straight answers for empty cells - let the game teach you what the next logical step will be!

    • More themes are in the works.

    • We're overhauling our scoring algorithm, since it doesn't make too much sense at the moment.

Given our past tendency to rush updates, we're beta testing the hell out of the new features, but rest assured they're coming.

We would love any additional feedback / suggestions / ideas from you - you can download our Apple Featured Sudoku game here and give it a try - it's FREE!

As always, thank you to everyone who supported us through this journey and helped making our little game better and better with each update.

    Stay safe everyone!

Tip for M1 macbook owners, change the audio output frequency of the macbook speakers, no more crackling noise in Apple TV!

    Posted: 02 Jan 2022 07:47 AM PST

    Hi!

I've been having issues with crackling noise when playing Apple TV movies on my new M1 pro Macbook pro when having the movies in fullscreen. Playing them non-fullscreen was fine, but as soon as they were fullscreen, a lot of static/crackling noise coming out of the speakers.

Lot of googling ensues and I am seeing a lot of people complaining about crackling noises in the new M1 macbook speakers and lot of support threads on apple support channels but no solution. More googling brought me to a macrumors forum thread where someone suggested to change the output frequency to 48 000hz instead of the default 44 100hz. This fixed it for me and other users! No downside found yet, tried multiple videos, streaming platforms, etc..., all still work fine!

So, the fix is simple. Open the app "Audio MIDI Setup" (installed by default, inside utilities folder, or just type "midi" in spotlight), make sure Macbook speakers are selected on the left and pick 48 000Hz in the dropdown menu. And voila, fixed!

adding the link to the forum thread as to not take credit for the solution, just trying to make public this solution https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/weird-warbly-crackling-bizarre-audio-in-appletv-after-monterey-12-1.2327391/

Bought an iPad Mini 6 . . . is it just me or is the display terrible?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2022 01:29 PM PST

Bought an iPad Mini 6 recently, and I've noticed all of the following

    1) Definitely has the jelly-scroll problem.

    2) The display overall looks grainy and a bit blurry

    3) Pressing on most parts of the screen with even an average amount of force = distortion (kind of like the Apple Pencil with the 12.9 iPad Pro, except with a finger in this case)

    4) the most noticeable thing, everything is . . . laggy? No idea if it's an issue with the refresh rate, part of the jelly scrolling problem, or something with the software (although I updated to 15.2 as soon as I got it). But it feels like I'm running the latest iOS on an ancient iPhone 5S or something. Animations, scrolling, etc nothing is smooth at all, across all apps (Safari, Messages, even the home screen and literally opening apps or swiping between pages). Touch input is not responsive as you'd expect. I know some might mention that this could be because I'm used to ProMotion, but I compared to a friend's iPhone 12 and standard iPad, and everything looks much smoother on those devices.

Has anyone else experienced these issues? Or did I just get a dud? I wouldn't have minded just the jelly scrolling issue but number 4 especially makes it a no go.

Duplicate Tab - New app, who dis

    Posted: 02 Jan 2022 10:58 AM PST

    Aloha r/apple!

First things first, Happy New Year! I hope that you were able to make some good memories even in these dark times :)

My name is Ty and I created a Safari extension for iOS 15 called Duplicate Tab. It makes it really quick and easy to duplicate tabs in Safari, and it lets you duplicate a tab using a keyboard shortcut if you use an external keyboard.

After copying and pasting URLs into new tabs for years, I was excited that iOS 15 had a built-in method for duplicating tabs (in Safari). But, I found it slow and counterintuitive. Which, is why I decided to make this extension in the first place.

It comes with a variety of app icons to choose from, designed by Yannick Lung. Plus, I created a GitHub repository where you can view portions of Duplicate Tab's source code so that you know nothing weird is going on. The repository also contains answers to frequently asked questions and somewhere to post feedback.

Have a merry New Year! If you have any questions about Duplicate Tab, please ask away!

I hope you find it as useful as I do! (@^◡^)

Wrong use of dimming zones on iOS (Liquid XDR display)

    Posted: 02 Jan 2022 02:46 AM PST

Hi Apple community, I know this topic has been discussed many times but I wanted to talk about how iOS turns on the mini led even when its not needed. I'm not talking about blooming, I'm talking that the mini led seems to render the content at the wrong scale. I normally use my devices with low brightness at night and when the screen displays for example the procreate UI in a pure black canvas the system lights up unnecesary zones; heres a Picture https://imgur.com/a/GnN9hxB

the grid represents the minileds on the screen, and the white zones are all the zones that I see turned on ( if I move the slide over to the right i can see how the little squares light up but far from the actual UI element, also, what i see is the miniled trying to show me the black color but instead of turning off the zone it is turn on).

For this UI the use of zones is too much for whats is been displayed on screen, as I said it looks like the elements are 3 times bigger on the miniled . This problem happens on every aspect of iOS and I believe that the blooming can come from this problem too, a bad use of zones from the algorithm Because the zones are really little for this size of screen.

Also, I came to this community to ask if the new macbooks pro act the same way. could this be a bug? I dont get why the screen would turn on so many zones.

Tdlr: the screen with low brightness turn on more zones than it should to display the procreate UI in this case in a pure black canvas.
