Is there an Apple TV app that can stream what is displayed on my Windows PC to my Apple TV?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2021 06:04 AM PST

What I want is to get a football stream on my PC and then display that from the computer to the Apple TV so I can watch the game on the couch. So I'd need something like PLEX where there are apps on Apple TV and PC working together. Does anyone know if something like this exists?

Also, note I'm not interesting in getting any extra hardware like a Chromecast.

    Local Streaming: Wireless vs Wired

    Posted: 09 Dec 2021 01:07 AM PST

I have a 2021 ATV and I use Infuse 7 Pro to watch content on my OLED.

My shared drive is on my PC which is connected via ethernet to my router.

My ATV is connected over wifi.

The question: Is there a difference at all in audio/video quality if I connect the ATV via ethernet instead of wifi?

4K streaming: a brief slowing effect. Anyone else get this?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2021 10:18 AM PST

I was watching Hawkeye on my AppleTV 4K 2nd gen and I saw something that bothers me and it's not the first time. For about half a second, or just a few frames, the motion will seem to slow down then quickly resume normal speed for a few seconds, then there's this very brief slowing. This either happens with some frequency or it's all the time and I just don't always notice.

Does anyone else ever see this? My internet setup is fast and rock solid, so I'm never sure what to make of it. Eero Pro 6, gigabit from xfinity, cat 6 ethernet to AppleTV. Would love to hear that others have experienced this and solved it.

Plex plays low quality on local network

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 11:55 PM PST

I've been using Plex locally, my AppleTV is connected via Ethernet to the network and the Plex server is wifi on the network.

Ever since I connected the AppleTV via Ethernet, Plex video streams from my Plex server are very low quality. I've tried the trick to not search for Bluetooth headphones but it didn't help.

Why would it not being on wifi make the streams so low quality? It's all the same network… Anything from the internet is super fast!

AppleTV + CEC to control my reciever?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2021 07:20 AM PST

I've been trying to determine if I can use my AppleTV 4k to manage my home entertainment system that is more than just the AppleTV.

Right now, I use a amazon fire tv cube, which I can tell to switch the inputs on my receiver to my cable box / tivo, or the nintendo switch, etc.

    Example:

    TV -- Receiver -- HDMI1 -- AppleTV +- HDMI2 -- Tivo +- HDMI3 -- Nintendo Switch \- HDMI4 -- BluRay

Everything I've looked at says the AppleTV has the ability to switch to the right HDMI port when starting up, but there's no mention of managing the HDMI inputs after the fact.

Prior to using the FireTV cube (in the above diagram in the place of the AppleTV), I used a harmony hub interacting with Alexa to switch inputs, etc. Maybe I need to go back to that strategy, but it seems like the AppleTV being as powerful as it is, and as capable as it is, should be able to manage this without that Rube Goldberg machine setup.

Comments on this? (including other ways to manage the entertainment center so the wife approval factor is satisfied).

    Thanks in advance!

Streaming from the East Sports Web Site

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 06:12 PM PST

Hypothetically, my friend has been using a streaming from the east web site to airplay sporting events to his TV but has run into some problems. He can stream from Chrome IOS because when he expands the video to full screen and gets the familiar AirPlay icon in the video player, but does not get that symbol in IOS.

    1. Is there a trick to streaming from IOS to airplay from one of these streaming to the east web sites?

My friend has also notice sometimes he is able to exit out of the video and go to another website and sometimes he can even close his IPAD without this stream cutting out, but most times it dies on him and he has to reload it in Chrome.

    1. Does any know how to reliably start this stream in Chrome or Safari and be able to exit out the web browser without the stream closing?

Hypothetically speaking, my friends thanks you for any help you can provide.

Home kit integration for portal TV?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 05:46 PM PST

Does anyone have the Facebook Portal TV set up in their Apple home kit? I'm curious how the notifications work through Apple TV.

Do you get a pip notification for incoming calls? Can you answer the video call and auto switch to the call from the Apple TV, without having to manually switch HDMI inputs on the tv? (Apple TV and Facebook Portal TV use different HDMI inputs on the tv) Once the call is over does it automatically switch back to the Apple TV input? Or do you have to manually switch HDMI inputs on the tv?

If you do have the Facebook portal TV set up with your Apple home kit, how does your functionality work?

I understand that we can mirror FaceTime onto the TV. This is not the functionality I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance for any feedback you may have on this oddly specific request. My family and I greatly appreciate it.

Access MacBooks media library on Apple TV

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 09:22 PM PST

Is there a way I can create a a folder on my MacBook and store a bunch of videos and photos on it, then able to stream all of it to my Apple TV? I thought I could do this when I enabled home sharing, but it didn't work or I don't know what can be shared via home sharing on the "Computers" app

2 Homepod minis paired to Apple TV

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 06:27 PM PST

Today I bought a second HomePod mini and paired it for stereo sound to my Apple TV. Watching a movie compared to the sound coming from my tv's in-built soundbar (Pioneer Kuro plasma), sounds like I'm watching a film in the bathroom? Why the hell is there a reverb effect coming from the HomePods? It sounds awful. Are Apple planning to tweak the soundscape for movies being played on Apple TV? Music on its own sounds decent, but the voice track in movies sounds terrible, really spaced out and reverb-y.

Apple TV 4K (latest) and LG OLED not working, older Apple TV 4K works.

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 06:26 PM PST

I have an older Apple TV 4K, and the new version. Both will work with my 55C7P. However with my 65C7P, only the older Apple TV works. New Apple TV, there is no picture. In both cases, the Apple TV is plugged directly to the TV. I have tried all 4 HDMI ports. I have tried different cables also.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Going on vacation. Will this work?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 06:18 PM PST

Plan to take my iPad loaded with shows and my AppleTV. The hotel only has wifi, and I really am not interested in connecting to that.

I just want to Airplay my iPad to the AppleTV which would be connected to the hotel tv.

    Will that work easily?

Up until a few days ago i had the option to swipe left while watching a channel to bring up the tv guide of my favorites list. Now swiping left doesn't do anything.

Is there a way to bring it back?

    HDR and subtitles

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 04:41 PM PST

We have an AppleTV hooked up to a new LG OLED tv and it seems like my iTunes movies wash out the subtitles. I've checked all settings on the tv for and they are all normal, and things like eco saver are off. I saw that it may be something to do with HDR bit wanted to check on here.
