| Posted: 05 Dec 2021 11:35 PM PST I was taking a slightly over 1 hour long video on my old iPhone 5 (not 5s) for a short film project. Since it is was the 16 gig model, this took up most of the remaining space on the phone (it was pretty much empty otherwise). I misremembered transferring the video to my computer, so I stupidly deleted the video and removed it from the recently deleted folder. That was two months ago. Since then I haven't used the phone much but did download Spotify, Youtube and some songs that have amounted to only a couple gigs. I have no backups. Can I recover the video from my phone somehow? Is it likely to be overwritten since the space on the phone is so small and the video had taken up most of it? Also the phone is running IOS 10. Is there encryption built into the phone that would prevent me from accessing deleted data? Curious to know any and all options. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 06 Dec 2021 01:13 AM PST So my 2015 MBP nearly blew up, the battery suddenly swelled, making the laptop unstable on the desk. I've removed the back panel, and yes, all the cells have swelled. However, a couple of questions if anyone knows the answers:

I don't have any access to the setting where you can give permission for apps to use the camera/have access to things on your camera roll. Only place I can send photos is messages. | MacOS: Looking for program to automatically copy and clear camera Posted: 06 Dec 2021 12:49 AM PST So I am looking for a program that will automatically copy all of the files on my camera (Runcam 5 Orange) to a NAS folder, with the name of the folder being the date, and then clear the camera. I would like all of this being done without doing anything more than connecting the camera to my Mac. I would setup the drive that the camera is, which folder I want to backup, and then where to backup things. A program to do this would make my life a lot easier. As of right now I often don't backup my footage, and end up running out of storage when I want to record. If I had a program to do this, I would always have an empty SD card in my camera and my footage saved on my NAS. [link] [comments] |

| Data recovery options for diag code VDH002 Posted: 05 Dec 2021 07:28 PM PST Hey y'all - I have a MacBook Air 2014 Core i7 (A1466) I'm getting the flashing file folder with the question mark icon when I try to boot my MBA. I ran the Mac diagnostic tool by holding the 'D' key after powering my system on and received the following message: "There may be an issue with a storage device. Reference Code: VDH002" I put my SSD into another MBA and I get the same results (flashing file folder with questions mark). I took the SSD from the other MBA, popped it into my MBA, and it booted successfully. So it seems that there is an issue with my SSD and other hardware is probably ok. I do not have a time machine backup. I have some questions: Are there any other steps that I can take to try and resolve the issue? Is it worth trying an external SSD reader? What are my options for data recovery? Should I look to a data recovery service? If so, can anyone recommend a reputable company? What is a good replacement SSD for my MBA? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 05 Dec 2021 07:16 PM PST Hey guys, i just recieved an iMac G4 2002 from someone who didnt want it from work. Its been a pain in my ass since ive had to factory reset it to get the password protection off it without the disk. It's stuck in Macos 10.2.3 and only has firefox on it. Everytime I try and go to a webpage it has an error (site uses a security protocol which isnt enabled) getting it connected to the internet was hard enough and this just feels like a punch in the gut. Is there a way I can get safari back? Was safari available on this computer? Can i update this computer to any higher firmware? My brand new AirPods Pro that I literally just bought and have never been opened before are not working since removal from the packaging. They literally, only just flash white. Never been connected to my phone before. Nothing I'm doing is changing the white flashing. Holding the button down, trying a "factory reset," like literally nothing. I'm really frustrated about this because I JUST bought them which I know it happens but, ugh. I've went through all of Apple's troubleshooting steps, nothing. The only color it ever changes to is green, and that's if I take the AirPods out of the case. Other than that, constant flashing white light. I've tried pairing it with other devices, also not connecting or being recognized by them at all. Am I SOL? Am I gonna have to take these back? | iPhone XS on iOS 15.1 - Cannot Reset Bluetooth Settings Posted: 05 Dec 2021 09:11 PM PST I know that going to Settings -> Transfer or Reset iPhone -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings should remove all of my previously paired Bluetooth devices (besides apple products like Apple Watch and AirPods) but it does not remove any Bluetooth devices. I am also having weird issues where my phone will randomly disconnect from my car Bluetooth. Occasionally, I have seen a random string of letters (ex. "sshsgdhdkshdkh" ) that says it is connected in my Bluetooth and I am unable to disconnect or forget this device when it appears. Any ideas on how to fix this? [link] [comments] |

| Looking for the supreme way to transfer photos fro. Iphone to photos library in external hdd! Posted: 05 Dec 2021 09:00 PM PST So I've been using photos in Mac for about a decade. Switched my library to an external hdd (planning on moving to a ssd in the near future but not there yet). So after not downloading my photos for about a year I notice I've never actuality changed the way import my pictures ever. So basically I: - open photos - select the external library - connect my iPhone - import all /delete after import. But when I started doing it today I noticed it was going to take around 12 hours and I thought this can't actually be the best "modern way" to import photos. So I started doing a little gogling and came across a couple of ways I hadn't thought about but I'm not sure if they would work in my situation so I want your expert advice. The methods I found where: - my USB connected method using import. - icloud photo stream (which I don't love as I like my old fashion backup and all) - import using airdrop. This last method caught my attention as I know is really fast and obviously comfortable but it brought so many questions to me. For example: will the thousands of pictures be imported to my downloads file? Will the Metadata be affected when imported?? I assume I will have to download everything to my Mac and then drag and drop to my external library, will this take hours too? And finally, when I delete the pictures in my iPhone (which I don't know if can delete 10,000 photos) I've seen sometimes the files end up using some library data in a hidden file in a limbo of memory usage. And finally i thought there might be more methods i don't know about that you could help me share knowledge on. So please help me with this. I tried connecting them to a different iPhone, my Mac, and an Android device, the left AirPod does the same thing still on all. After that, i took it to the Genius Bar, they did a diagnosis on the AirPods and on their end everything is clear. No connection issues or battery issues. | Quoted $471 to Repair Apple Watch Posted: 05 Dec 2021 08:55 PM PST I purchased an Apple Watch Series 5 (GPS) a year and a half ago. It has very minor cosmetic damage on the corner of the screen. I'm not even sure how I did it, but a small crack has been there for a year and never bothered me or impacted function. Last month the watch stopped charging. When I put it on the charger, the white Apple logo sometimes will pop up, but it doesn't charge enough to actually function. I contacted Apple and was told the repair of the battery would be free. Once it got to the repair shop, I was given a quote of around $350 to fix the cracked screen too. I didn't care about the screen, so told them to just send it back. I didn't realize they'd send it back without fixing the battery either. I have since been told that it is their policy to fix everything - they can't just fix the actual battery problem, they have to fix the screen too and I have to pay for that. I then contacted Apple again today as I decided to just give in and pay the $350 as I'm missing my watch. I've now been giving a new quote of $471.50 to repair - more than the cost of just buying a new watch. I'm in Canada and don't have Apple Care. The new price is almost the same as a new watch. Am I just out of luck here? I've had tons of Apple products before and this experience is so different from the positive service experiences I've had in the past. [link] [comments] |
| Trying (and failing) to pair a Brand New Dualshock 4 Wireless Controller to AppleTV Posted: 05 Dec 2021 08:35 PM PST I've exhausted my google-fu trying to find out an answer to this. A friend shipped a brand new Dualshock 4 wireless controller to me. He figured I can use it with my AppleTV. I never owned a PS4, he never owned an AppleTV. I couldn't get to to go into pairing mode by holding the Share button and the PS button. No matter how long I hold them. I could verify that the buttons work by connecting via USB on a Windows machine with DS4Windows and also on a Mac using the Steam app. I also tried to factory reset it. I'm getting a sense that I might need to pair it "first" to a PS4 console before I can pair it with my AppleTV. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |

| Apple watch express replacement Posted: 05 Dec 2021 08:23 PM PST Hi, so i just called apple's customer service to complain about my scratched apple watch even thought it hasn't been 2 weeks yet since i bought it. And they offer me the express replacement option, which they will send a new watch to me, and then i can send my old one to them. They also put a pending charge on my debit card for AUD 599 (full price of a new apple watch). My concern is, if my old apple watch has reach them and then they decided to say that its my fault and i have to pay some certain amount for the repair. Does anyone have any experience with this? I would rather have a scratched apple watch then having to pay $599 for a new one bcs im not scratching my watch [link] [comments] |
