    They had a suite of very popular apps in the NeXTSTEP world and were early arrivals onto the OS X platform (heck they even supported Rhapsody and OS X Server 1.x) and the headline app in the suite was Create. I was never in publishing or design but I had fun playing with the Create demo and though that this could have been a decent relatively low cost alternative to the Adobe app suite. The one app of theirs that I do have fond memories of is GIFfun which was freeware.

    I just checked out their website and it seems that they abandoned their desktop app suite at around the time of SnowLeopard.

    I can imagine their suite of apps had a hard time competing with the intrenched Adobe workflows but I thought that the ex NeXTSTEP user base coming to OS X could have kept them afloat.

    They seemed to go into iOS development for awhile but clicking through their site feels like walking through a creaky abandoned old house which brings back childhood memories

    Is there any solution to turn on the Spatial Audio on MacBook Pro e.g. 2020 (Intel) upgraded to MacOS Monterey? The difference between sound quality when playing songs on iPhone 12 and MacBook Pro is massive. Spatial Audio does the job on iPhone. It's ridiculous that this feature is blocked on MacBooks other than M1 and newer, lol.

    If you let Google Drive touch your Photos Library.photoslibrary file, it will break your Photos library

    After 2 months of having my macOS photos app broken and trying every debugging step I found, I finally figured out the issue.

    I don't remember doing it, but a while back I must have set Google Drive to sync my entire /Users/[username]/Pictures folder. But it clearly caused the issue of my Photos app no longer updating. Trying to fix it by redoing the library from scratch made the app inaccessible because it couldn't even start a library. Every few days I'd make an attempt at fixing it.

    Randomly today I thought maybe Google Drive is messing with it. I checked and it was being synced to Google Drive. I removed it, force closed Photos, deleted the library file, opened Photos and setup a new system library, and instantly all my photos showed up.

    Remember: only use cloud syncing services for files/folders that don't get frequently updated by other applications.

    Special Characters on MacOS

    Does anyone know how to create shortcuts for special characters on MacOS? I hate having to open the character viewer to write ǫ or ʒ, for example.

    I know that there is a tool for this on Windows called WinCompose, and I love the way it works. Is there anything similar for Macs?

    AirPods Pro microphone issue with Monterey

    Since updating to Monterey, the mic quality frequently drops to really bad . I basically sound like a robot. The only solution is if I turn off bluetooth on mac and turn it back on, then reconnecting the airpods -then I sound normal again.
    (reconnecting the airpods only doesn't help)

    It was not an issue with BigSur.

    Anyone experienced the same?

    Mouse dropping connection after macOS Monterey update

    Morning folks

    I use a Macbook Pro 2020 and recently upgraded to Monterey 12.0.1. Since then, my Magic Mouse 1 has continually dropped connection, sometimes it refuses to reconnect and I can't work out why. The mouse has also started eating batteries; 2 AA batteries would normally last me a couple of months but now only last about 4 days.

    I've done some research and haven't come across any potential solutions that have worked as yet. I did see there used to be an option on an older macOS version to debug the bluetooth which seemed to help but I can't find that option on this version.

    I inherited this mouse and have no idea how old it is - it might be coming to the end of its life but need to consider all the options since it only started happening since the update and I need to demonstrate to work that I've tried everything before asking for a new one.

    Any advice gratefully received.

    How can I add safari pages to the dock as a separate app?

    Thanks for reading. The problem is intermittent. I'm on Monterey. Sometimes I play for an hour before it acts up, sometimes it happens right away. I'll be playing and the temperature will spike up to 90 C. Activity monitor says Safari Graphics and Media is going crazy hogging resources. I can play on Lichess all night and not have this happen. Is this a Safari problem or a Chess.com problem?

    Bootable USB doesnt show up to boot from

    My stepfather passed away 3 years ago i finally decided to fire up his 2016 13inch macbook pro and instantly formatted through disk recovery as i never knew what his password was, i created a bootable usb with sierra on it but no matter what i do or how much i try it never gets shown for me to boot from, i used transmac to create the bootable file, i have 0 access to other macs only my windows pc, i cant do the internet recovery as its useless, 5 hours just to get to like 3% then i cant let that screen go off while its busy and im in south africa so having a stable connection for 3 days with me not sleeping to keep the screen on is not happening

    AutoVolume (worked on my old Mac on Catalina) doesn't seem to work for M1 Monteray and I can't seem to figure out how to do this with Automator or Shortcuts. Would love if anyone had a method because I hate having my music or show blaring when I open my laptop in class. Thank you.

    Safari, Podcast and Notes app keep closing itself when on standby and I'm not using it?

    Weeks after updating to Moneterey 12.0.1, when I'm not using Safari, Notes, and the Podcast app, they just close by itself? Is there anyway to stop this? I did not change any settings after the update.

    New macbook air preview can’t open file

    I have a new macbook pro i just purchased. I am having an error come up when trying to open pdf files saying "this file …….. couldn't be opened."

    Is this a common bug and is there any solution?

    My Macbook Pro 2017 is having a problem right now: Messages cant be opened, Password and Security Preference cant be opened. Handoff is not working as well from Iphone to Mac and vice versa. Currently on Mac Os Monterey 12.0.1

    Shared album updating on iPhone but not on the Mac

    I subbed to the 2TB iCloud plan for photos. I've been trying to get shared albums to work but having some issues. Can anyone help?

    1. Shared an album with my wife, and she can see the shared album on the Mac and her iPhone.
    2. When I add a new photo to the shared album, she sees the new photo on her iPhone but not on her Mac.
    3. To see the newly added photos on her Mac, I have to go into Photo's preferences and uncheck/recheck the Sharing option — but I want it to update without this workaround.

    Things I've tried (none worked):

    1. Booted up in Safe Mode on both my MBP and my wife's MBP (not sure how this helps, but multiple people on the internet said it worked for them).
    2. Signed in and out of iCloud on both my MBP and wife's MBP.
    3. Reset photos library on both computers (deleted them and had it reconstructed from iCloud).
    4. Created a brand new User Account on my wife's MBP and signed into iCloud.

    Some key observations:

    1. My wife doesn't see the newly shared photo on her MBP, but when she shares a photo in the same shared album, I see it immediately on my MBP.
    2. Seeing how this works on her iPhone and my MBP, I'm thinking the problem is her account (at least on the her MBP because her iPhone works).

    Help appreciated!
