Use older imac (2015 5k) as display with monterey? Posted: 23 Nov 2021 04:23 PM PST It's unclear to me whether this is or will be possible. I saw a thread where someone posted a patch that allows you to install monterey on older devices and use them as a receiver. However, a lot of people were commenting that even with the patch, you can't display at a decent resolution so it's not really usable. Has anyone found a workaround? Looking to use my MBA and the imac as a display since the imac is way less powerful. Thanks. [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Nov 2021 01:41 PM PST My coworkers 2013 MacBook Pro won't log in. I can enter her password but the loading bar never completes. It will sit there fully loaded for hours and nothing happens. So, I tried going into recovery mode and reinstall macOS that way, but every time it tries to authenticate with Apple it says "no bag entry" We don't know anyone else with a Mac, so I can't get a legit copy of macOS to make a bootable drive and put a clean install on. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do?? [link] [comments]
What’s the best macOS for 2013 MacBook Air? Posted: 23 Nov 2021 09:05 PM PST I love using high sierra, everything is great and it runs fast and cool, except universal clipboard never works for me. Anyone got any recommendations? [link] [comments]
PastedGraphic format only TIFF format? Posted: 23 Nov 2021 08:36 PM PST I am using the screen capture shortcut (Command+Shift+4), click and drag to select a part of the screen, then hold Control before releasing the mouse. This puts the screen capture into the Clipboard. I then paste into Apple Mail. Problem is... macOS creates the PastedGraphic as a TIFF image. I would like to change this to JPG or PNG. Anyone know how to make this change? [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Nov 2021 04:39 PM PST i was wondering if there was a way to create some sort of second dock or something similar (with the use of a 3rd party program/app ofc), where i can add apps to a dock or easy other launcher thing that are different than the apps that i have on the default dock. if you are wondering why i would want to use this, i am trying to separate my personal apps from my classwork apps -- i love the ease of access but i would love if there was a program that would allow me to make a second sort of dock or launcher or SOMETHING to separate... any answers welcome! thank u! Using applications and multiple windows Posted: 23 Nov 2021 12:23 PM PST Currently working on moving from Windows to Mac OS. But, struggling with day to day use of the application windows, i.e. applications I have open. My setup is I typically have two windows of Chrome open (each window has a few tabs), along with Outlook, which then has multiple individuals emails open, plus 1 or 2 Excel documents. What is the easiest way to manoeuvre between applications and items opened in those applications? At the moment, I have to right click on the icon in the dock, then select the 'item' I want to bring to the foreground. Surely I am doing this wrong; this seems excessive (compared to the process on Microsoft Windows). Hence, my question. Thanks [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Nov 2021 06:42 PM PST I bought a new M1 Pro and tried connecting it to my display via the HDMI port but there's an overscanning issue where the top and bottom of the screen is cropped. Has anyone else had this issue or knows how to fix it? Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Nov 2021 12:00 PM PST Hello. Have any of you figured out a way to manually open Premiere Pro using Rosetta 2 on MacOS Monterey? I am having trouble with a Premiere plugin that apparently isn't supported on the M1 yet. [link] [comments]
Why does MacOS need to be a time-shared multi-user OS? Posted: 23 Nov 2021 11:59 AM PST This is more of me wondering why it is this way, rather than criticism. Given that MacOS is really deployed on single machines connected to a network, and isn't really used for any client-server setup, and there is no implementation of MacOS in a thin-client, what is the need for MacOS to support multiple users on a time-shared fashion? Posted: 23 Nov 2021 04:27 PM PST I'm about to record a talk with multiple slides and I have a long script for the talk, which I would prefer to just read out from my screen. Breaking up the script and putting it into the slides doesn't generally work for me, because sometimes (often) I like to transition to the next slide halfway through a sentence, and having the next half only appear as the slide comes up often breaks up my flow (I don't have the capacity to memorise all my transitions). Ideally I would like to have presenter mode let me make only one single presenter note, and scroll through it as I go through my talk, independently of my slide transitions, but I can't find this option anywhere - does someone here know of such a thing? (I would put the entire script in every note, but then at every new slide it would jump to the beginning of the script (which would get farther and farther from my actual position in the script), again throwing off my flow.) Another option that would be nice would be to have presenter mode allow me to split screen wih e.g. textmate without shutting down my presentation, so I could have my script open in one half and my slides running in the other, but this doesn't seem to be an option either. Another final option would be to have my presentation playing without the presenter mode at all - just the presentation in full screen on one screen and me using textmate in the other (I only have two screens). If there's no way to have this global note or split screen then I'll go for this option, but ideally, I would like to have presenter mode on because it does show me what the next slide is, which is nice. Anyway, anyone know how to have presenter mode use a global note/share screen with another app? Thanks! [link] [comments]

How to make the "red x" function like the cmd+q feature? Posted: 23 Nov 2021 08:33 AM PST When I press the Red X on apps, I want them to completely close like they would on Windows and not continue to run in the background. It seems to me that the 'Red X' basically functions like the 'Yellow Minimise' button. Is there a way in system preferences or something which would actually close open windows/apps rather than keep them running in the background? [link] [comments]
