Posted: 05 Nov 2021 01:39 PM PDT In Monterey Apple introduced a new Low Power Mode. Cooldown is a simple menu bar app that allows you to quickly toggle Low Power Mode on and off and see the status of the mode directly in your menu bar. You can download it here: https://goodsnooze.Gumroad.com/l/cooldown Use code 'Reddit' for 100% off. You can also get the source code if you want to build it yourself. [link] [comments]

The new MacOS Monterey update has bricked my laptop Posted: 05 Nov 2021 06:22 PM PDT Hi, I use a MacBook pro 2020 intel, it was working perfectly fine earlier until I updated it to the new MacOs Monterey update (not knowing the problems), and now it has completely died, the screen is black and I have tried all the usual ways to fix it such as command R Etc. however it is still not working. I read somewhere that it could be bricked which means the ports don't work now? I'm not sure if that is correct or not, I know nothing about computers lol. Anyone know any solutions? Will apple help if I bring it in, it isn't under warranty anymore and is just over a year old. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
AltTab App: Is it a good idea to download? Posted: 05 Nov 2021 07:50 PM PDT https://alt-tab-macos.netlify.app/ This app does exactly what I was looking for with window management in macOS. But I am worried about it using up system resources and slowing my Mac down, do you guys think it's a good idea to download it? Is there a native version I can get from the app store? System software from developer Apple Inc. has been updated Posted: 06 Nov 2021 12:06 AM PDT I got a popup saying an extension had been blocked. I went into System Preferences -> Security and I have this message: Any idea what this is? I've never seen Apple updates/software needing to be unblocked. ESC key in Terminal on Monterey is Broken Posted: 05 Nov 2021 06:55 PM PDT Has anyone figure out how to get ESC to work in Terminal on macOS Monterey? Every time I use insert mode on vim I can't exit unless I ctrl-c or have to option-[ TWICE. Is there some option I have to disable to get ESC to work again? I don't have dictation active and I'm not triggering Siri or anything like that. I'm on a 2021 16" MacBook Pro [link] [comments]
Monterey 12.0.1 WindowServer Kernel Panics while idle Posted: 05 Nov 2021 09:57 PM PDT Hey all, long time reader, first time caller... I've been running my 2017 iMac Pro trouble-free for over two years now, but i've had two Kernel panics, occurring while the machine is idle. From what i can see from the logs, it looks like WindowServer has crashed multiple times, a minute or so apart, before the panic and subsequent reboot occurs. Is anyone else having a similar issue? Is this a Monterey thing, or a hardware thing? Thanks! :-) Crash log below:

XCode or Android Studio - Size difference Posted: 06 Nov 2021 01:18 AM PDT Hi guys, I am developing a flutter application I need to know which is smaller in size to run my app in an emulator. Should I get Xcode or Android studio? [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Nov 2021 01:15 AM PDT Since Monterey seems to have some bugs, I'm considering downgrading to Big Sur and I'll stick with it for some months, hopefully Monterey will be full stable by then. The bugs I'm experiencing are: Sometimes laggy transition when switching between virtual desktops, and duplicated icons for my games folder in the launcher. Is it possible to downgrade? Does anyone know how to achieve this? Aleo, please, let me know if I will lose my data by doing this, I would do a backup if so. I have a M1 MacBook Air. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

Changing my user account picture Sends my Apple ID picture. Posted: 06 Nov 2021 12:15 AM PDT Hi, Created a crafty emoji under Monterrey as my user account profile picture. Now my Apple ID has the same image. When I change it under the Apple ID, the UserAccount picture also changes. How can I turn this off? [link] [comments]
From a 'save' dialogue, how do I navigate to the parent folder? Posted: 06 Nov 2021 12:13 AM PDT I'm working with Afinnity Photo. But I'm sure this issue rises with most (if not all) apps that allow you to manually save things. If I go to 'file'>'save as' I am given some candidate locations. The default location is completely unfamiliar to me. I have no idea where it is. I'm left to guess. A dropdown menu shows me the the alternative locations. There are two options I'd like to have available: 1) Saving the document in folder it lives in currently 2) Navigation upward from the folder that the document is in, so I can save the document there. Posted: 05 Nov 2021 09:23 PM PDT 13" MacBook Pro 2020 Monterey 12.0.1 The last Mac I owned was 2015 and was stolen in 2017 so I have not kept up on the MacOS and MacBook updates since High Sierra and this Touch Bar is just adding to the complications. It worked fine for the first day or so but now it won't work for 3 users that I setup. I setup a 4th and it worked over there. Keyboard settings are identical. I tried looking up ways to kill it in terminal and activity monitor but wasn't working. Any suggestions for making this thing work would be greatly appreciated, thank you! [link] [comments]
A couple questions about iCloud Keychain Posted: 05 Nov 2021 04:58 PM PDT I created an encrypted disk image to store some sensitive files. I currently store the password inside a password manager. Whenever I open the encrypted dmg, along with asking for my password it asks if I want to store the password in the Keychain. In my mind, I feel like this makes things less secure than they are right now, since an attacker could get to the password if they simply knew my laptop's login password, whereas they would currently need that along with the password manager's login. Am I thinking about this correctly? Also, what is the "keychain login"? Is that different than my user login I use to unlock my laptop? Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Nov 2021 08:28 PM PDT I'd like to do a clean install of Monterey but need to move some files and settings from my current setup on Catalina when it's done. Would this be doable simply by copying and pasting the files from the right folders in my Time Machine backup? Anyone on a MBP mid-2015 has successfully done so or encountered issues?
