Apple took away the option to hide Apple Music on Monterey and it's obnoxious (to put it generously) Posted: 04 Nov 2021 11:40 PM PDT Not really seeing anyone talk about this, so I wanted to bring it up/maybe get more awareness around it because while it might be a huge first world problem, man is it annoying to deal with. A few years ago I swore off streaming once Spotify did their big library changes and after trying Apple Music it absolutely trashed my local library. Plus I still use old school iPods so streaming really is a no-go for me. As such, I keep Apple Music turned off and short of some features trying to peek through (Radio in iOS for one), it mostly stays out of my face, and I'm fine with it. Except with Monterey, Apple seems to have completely removed the toggle (and restrictions tab) in Music.app to disable Apple Music. Has been this way since at least the last couple of betas leading up to release (and I have filed feedback against it). Assuming maybe a byproduct of Apple moving the restrictions of Music.app to Screen Time, but even checking Screen Time's settings, there's no option at all to turn off Apple Music. At most, I can disable artist profiles. Not that I'd mind any of this if Apple Music remained out of my face. Which it doesn't. Every couple of times I fire up Music.app, I have to dismiss an ad asking me to come back for two free months. Waking MacBook from sleep? Same thing happens. I've even had the ad pop in the middle of using the app for playing music, and it blocks me from accessing the app until I tell it for the umpteenth time: NO. As far as I know, there's no fix for this, some intense Googling found someone trying to mess with it via command line trickery and coming up blank on it. And it seems like Apple completely ignored any feedback filed against it, too. So at this point, I'm just looking to spread awareness, because as someone who has zero interest in using Apple Music (but has to continue using Music.app because, well, it bridges my iPhone and iPods), having to bat down ads on my own computer being placed over content I own is infuriating. Thanks for coming to my TED talk, [link] [comments]

Full-Screen FaceTime Issue Resolved!! Posted: 04 Nov 2021 05:27 PM PDT So after the Monterey update, I had not been able to go Fullscreen on FT and I was super upset. It seemed that a few others were having this issue as well so I decided to post the fix here. So if you have the 'Always on Top' setting checked for FT, it will not allow you to go fullscreen. If you turn it off, it will allow you to fullscreen again. Cheers!!! [link] [comments]

anyone else unable to launch iMovie on Monterey? Posted: 05 Nov 2021 12:45 AM PDT I've tried everything in this article, as well as deleting all iMovie Libraries & reinstalling iMovie, but I only ever get a spinning beachball forever whenever I launch iMovie. I'm on Monterey on an M1 Macbook Air. Anyone else seeing this? Any solutions? [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Nov 2021 01:40 PM PDT Is it possible to trigger shortcuts (ig open an app) on a condition. Maybe when the macbook starts charging? [link] [comments]
Bookmarks sidebar does not auto hide anymore? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 06:01 PM PDT I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but ever since Monterey and the new Safari, bookmarks bar is either shown or hidden. Before that it used to be show on empty/blank tabs and auto hide when I visit a webpage. Is there a way to get this functionality back? [link] [comments]
MacBook Pro 2021 16” not showing hdr Posted: 04 Nov 2021 08:33 PM PDT So I recently purchased the MacBook Pro 16 inch variant with the baseline pro chip, first off, BEAUTIFUL MACHINE, however outside of YouTube , I can't seem to display hdr content unless using YouTube , made sure I had video streaming plans that supported 4k hdr (not expecting 4k on this display but I only seem to get 1080p) but tbh for this price I'm kinda sad nothing plays in safari above 1080p for streaming services (made sure to tick the developer tools like you had to do with t2 chip) any ideas what could be causing this and how I could work around this? Slow Monterey because of Font Problem Posted: 05 Nov 2021 02:11 AM PDT Monterey was behaving strangely on my Mac, apps would take minutes to launch and lock up, etc. In the end I found the cause to be a font. In my case it was Consolas from 2016. After removing the font everything is snappy again! Posting because it took me a while to figure this out. [link] [comments]

What options are there for sharing a Photos library within a home network? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 06:11 PM PDT I'd like to share a family Photos library between three Apple laptops all on the same network at home. The library size is currently about 400GB and likely to grow fast with video etc. I don't want to upload everything to iCloud or other cloud services. In the past I've tried just having it on one laptop, but this isn't ideal if someone else wants to use it. Plus I've tried having the library on an external SSD. This was more convenient, but made backups more tricky, and was slower than internal SSD. Is there any magic Apple solution to this? Or third-party software which can help? I don't mind getting a both of extra hardware if needed. [link] [comments]
MacBook Pro Touch Bar on Monterey works surprisingly well Posted: 05 Nov 2021 12:43 AM PDT Did anyone else notice, that the touch bar is not unreliable any more? Did Apple finally fix the bug that made it inresponsive. Before the upgrade to macOS 12 Monterey, the touch bar would not respond the the first touch at least 50% of the time I tried. It was annoying and I got used to trying over and over to make it wake up. Now it works like a charm. Did Apple software fix the bug right after Apple hardware gave up on it? [link] [comments]

OS Monterey Battery Draining While Plugged in? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 05:22 PM PDT My 2020 M1 MBA, 12.0.1, battery percentage decreases even when plugged in. I've restarted the machine, unplugged/plugged back in and made sure the wall socket has power. All in working order. When plugged in, the MBA registers the power supply with the normal chime and a lightening bolt in the battery icon in the menu bar. I watched about 30+ minutes of YouTube and it dropped from 100% to 95%, lightening bolt displayed in the battery icon. Also, it's does not appear to be charging while plugged in and lid closed. Anyone experiencing this or know what's up? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
