AirTag just saved my wallet and hours of my time. It’s by far my favorite Apple product! Posted: 04 Nov 2021 04:50 PM PDT I took an Uber last night after hanging out with some friends. This morning I wake up and can't find my wallet. I check everywhere and can't find it at my house. I get in touch with the Uber driver who looks around in his car and doesn't see it. I look everywhere in my house again and I still can't find it. I have my license, debit card, a few credit cards, my Costco membership…pretty much everything I need. I was about to start contacting all of those companies and I remembered something…I have an AirTag in my wallet! I haven't needed to use it for months and forgot it was there. I went on my phone and immediately find it about 10 miles away where I've never been. I'm completely confused and convinced that someone stole it. Then it starts moving. I call the Uber driver again and I asked if he was at the location of the wallet and he said he was. I finally convince him to drive back to me (I gave him $50 bucks) and we can't find it in his car. We're both like what the hell is going on because I can see it on my phone…then I remembered that I can ping! Boom, I hear it faintly chirping. Somehow it fell on the floor and went under the passenger seat. I must have dropped it and kicked it underneath when I was sitting in the back seat (or someone else was back there). I can't believe such a simple tool saved me so much time from having to cancel accounts/get new credit cards/a license/etc. Apple's AirTag is my favorite product to date! These new macs really seem to be defining a whole new era for apple pro laptops Posted: 04 Nov 2021 08:46 PM PDT The fact that they outperform even their current workhorse computer, and they're portable, allowing creators and professionals who go into the field a lot to carry a fully capable workstation in their backpack, on airplanes, or long road trips. I would love to see developers of windows only professional software, like CAD programs, to start developing for macs since those workers could bring their work with them. I was also really surprised to learn that you can have the same specs on both laptops. This is definitely new, right? The large laptops were always exclusively the higher-end cpu. It seems with this change that apple is no longer trying to treat it like a regular consumer laptop (that macbook pros have felt like recently), and are finally becoming seriously ahead of some of the competition in the workstation market. The M1 Max performance also makes me really excited for when apple finally enters the consumer self-driving car market. Apple silicon has proved to be ridiculously fast, and when they start putting that into self driving cars they're gonna be redefining luxury. [link] [comments]
FYI if your mouse feels laggy on the 120hz screen, it's because of the polling rate Posted: 04 Nov 2021 10:43 AM PDT Some mouses, especially non-gaming ones (with Bluetooth) run polling rates lower than 120hz so the cursor position updates with lower rate than the scree refresh rate. For example, if you are using an mx master 3, it can only do 125hz polling rate through the receiver, in bluetooth mode it drops to 90hz You can test your polling rate HERE [link] [comments]

PSA: Tap-to-Click on new Macbook Pro 14" and 16" extremely buggy on macOS Monterey Posted: 04 Nov 2021 10:50 AM PDT I just received my M1 Pro 14" 10/14/16 32gb 1Tb a couple days ago and have been playing around with it. I always use the Tap-to-click function on macOS, and after turning it on, I found myself running into issues in Safari trying to Open Link in New Tab by using Cmd+Tap. In short, it fails around 40% of the time or more on the first attempt, and only registers the command on the 2nd-4th tap. I assumed it was a macOS Monterey bug (software, not hardware related), and after some research, I found this forum post on Macrumors.com that confirmed my suspicions. Basically, I cannot surf the web on the new Macbooks. Opening links in new windows will fail quite often on first attempts, making me feel like I didn't tap the touch pad hard enough, and it's been driving me nuts. If it was possible to downgrade to Big Sur, I would do it instantly. But it seems like it's not possible with these new Macbooks. I was on the fence about trading this 14" in for a 16" due to the reviews about battery life and thermal performances. But now, I think I'm just going to return it and not repurchase another one until this software issue is fixed in the macOS (no idea how long it will take). I'm currently using an M1 Air running on Big Sur, so it's not like my software dev productivity will be suffering. But having a janky web browsing experience means every google search is going to take 2x as long due to this frustration, or forcing me to use haptic press to surf (I'm paying $3k for this...why??). Just a warning to those who use Tap-to-click feature. Hopefully Apple addresses this issue quickly. This was definitely a make-or-break "feature" for me. [link] [comments]
