Trade in old 13 in MBP for the new 14 in

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 07:52 PM PDT

I'm planning to trade in my 2019 13 inch MacBook Pro and get the new 14 inch. If I remember correctly, on Apple's website it says that I have 2 weeks to complete the trade in. I assume that's two weeks from when I make my order, not after I receive the trade in box, right? Also, are those 2 weeks until when I hand the package over to Fedex/UPS/whatever or when Apple receives it? The new MacBook Pros have pretty long delivery times right now and I don't wanna be without my current one for too long. I'm a college student so I'll just order the new one 2 weeks before Thanksgiving break and then send my old one to them after my last day of school, does that make sense?

Best MacBook for blogging and novel writing

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 10:02 PM PDT

I'm going to buy either a MacBook Air 2020 model or a MacBook Pro 2021 model. I'm finally at the point where I'm making money from blogging, and want a computer than can handle programs like Photoshop. Is the MacBook Pro overkill? Is the MacBook Air good enough? Which computer is more future proofed? I'm so confused. Please let me know.

    Early 2013 MBP Won’t Boot

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 09:50 PM PDT

I recently bought a used early 2013 wiped mbp 15 inch. Won't boot, I'm suspecting a bad battery, but want to know what y'all think before I shell out $100 for a new battery.

Plugged into the charger, pressed power button, no startup. Fan very faintly sounds like it's pulsing on and off only when plugged in. Reset the NVRAM, PRAM, no image or keyboard backlight or anything. The charger LED is on, and switches lights briefly when resetting the rams as expected. I also get power to a USB stick, led blinks (faintly) when the mbp is connected to power.

Only way I can get it to boot is when I bypass SMC (reset SMC, unplug, hold power button and plug in).

Anyone have any ideas? I've seen it could be just a battery or something big wrong with the motherboard. Anyone experienced this before?

I once had my fingers placed too close near the hinges. When I flipped the screen opened the gap tighten and it squeezed me well. The pain was excruciating

Looking to buy the new M1Pro, but need some advice about Dell Docking Station - WD15 compatibility

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 11:43 PM PDT

I'd like to know if anyone here has attempted connecting the Dell Docking Station - WD15 with USB-C to the new MacBook M1Pro and if that worked? How many monitors were you able to run if so and was it simple plug and play?

I've done some research and it seems that older Macs (Thunderbolt 3 and under) did not support this. However, according to a blurb on AppleInsider it sounds like the new pros do offer support for DisplayPort and the M1Pro can run more than one monitor - one over the built in HDMI, and another over USB-C/TB4 to a docking station like the Dell Docking Station - WD15.

    Any advise would be appreciated.

"The M1 processor can run a single external display using Thunderbolt 4 with the embedded DisplayPort 1.4 spec beyond the integrated display on a portable, or a HDMI display on the Mac mini. This means you can have a single 6K monitor like the Pro Display XDR or a single 4K monitor attached at any time through the USB-C ports.

The M1 Pro processor doubles that number, allowing a user to attach up to two 6K resolution monitors at 60Hz."

"The tech details also specify that the new MacBook Pro models still feature native DisplayPort output over USB-C and support for an additional display over HDMI. However, those who wish to utilize VGA, DVI, or Thunderbolt 2 displays will need to purchase adapters."

Macbook cannot access webpages, Spotify etc

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 04:58 PM PDT

    Hello all!

Hope to get some assistance for an issue I've been experiencing all morning.

My 2019 Macbook Pro does not seem to be able to access any webpages, use Spotify, Messenger app all of a sudden this morning (have tried with Chrome, Safari, Firefox). Have closed all applications and restarted my macbook several times but still didn't fix the issue. Weird thing is that I can stream videos (via Airplay) to my Apple TV perfectly. The other weird thing is that I seem to have no issues connecting my macbook to my VPN. However, I've tried closing my VPN to see if I can access anything but have no success.

My home internet connection seems to be ok as all my other devices can connect to it and works fine. Have reset the modem router several times.

Would anyone know what my issue could be?

    Thank you very much!

Trading in my MBP 15 for an M1 Pro 16 but I'm confused about the process

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 01:00 PM PDT

It says that the device must be traded in by the time its 14 days since purchase, but the shipping on the m1 pros are slow. Does that mean I have to be without a laptop for a while?

Are the M1 macbooks 'snappier' than Windows-based notebooks?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 03:10 AM PDT

I am using a Spectre x360 released around 3 years back and I am finding the performance a bit disappointing ( I had reloaded the stock OS lately ) . Now the laptop is fantastic - keyboard, screen etc wise. But I want a snappier performance esp for basic tasks like opening apps - like Notion, Browser ( < 3 basic tabs )

I used to owe an Air 2015 before this and it seemed really great at that time ( probably coz that was my first system with an SSD ) but if I compare the performance now it would be comparable to that of my current laptop.

Hence I am keen to know how does the M1 feel in operating esp after an year of use? I am not concerned with processing heavy apps. Just the basic ones.

I feel them to be taking much more than.. let's say my phone or my iPad to load basic apps

M1 Max 16" Power Draw and USB-C Charger

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 02:15 PM PDT

Does anyone know what minimum wattage USB-C charger is needed to charge/run the new MacBook Pro M1 Max 16?" I know Apple's is 140w and fast charges, while a 100w USB-C will not fast charge. But is a 100w charger an absolute bottom requirement, or will something less work to run on power without also draining the battery?

Waiting for Macbook Air 2022, what to do in the meantime?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 08:05 PM PDT

Skip to the end for the short version...

So after too many hours of research, I finally decided what will be the perfect Macbook for me... the 14 inch Macbook Air! So of course there's my conundrum :P

I'm sitting here on my couch with my 7-year-old Asus with a separate keyboard on my lap because the keyboard doesn't work, a separate mouse balanced on the laptop because the trackpad doesn't work, and my headphones playing music from my iPhone because they don't sync to my laptop for some reason. The laptop *functions* technically, it's pretty slow, but it does *function*. I've been holding out as long as possible (and hoping the latest MBP would've been cheaper) but I just don't know if I can wait until the end of 2022!

TL;DR I'm thinking of buying an old Macbook in the interim between now and the new MBA. My question is: what's the oldest Macbook that's even worth buying? i7 chip, what generation? i5? i5 and i7 Macbooks are pretty cheap, not sure how hard they would be to resell next year after I upgrade? Something like this. I'm a teacher but I pretty much use my laptop for just general use.

    Thank you!!

Cursor glitching out and teleporting on button press?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 11:15 AM PDT

About 5% of the time when I press a button or link in Safari on my new MBP, it teleports to the left by about half an inch then returns to its normal position. I notice that sometimes it highlights the text of the button/link instead.

This is really annoying and didn't happen on my Air. Anyone else encounter this?

    Macbook Pro vs Air

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 06:03 PM PDT

Could someone explain the difference between pro and air models? I have always had Windows computers and don't have a lot of Apple experience. I am in music academia and know I need to make the transition, I'm just at a loss. My main concern is if there's a significant difference in longevity between the two.
