    The orange dot appears while on the lock screen but goes away right after I login. Does this happen for anyone else? I'm starting to think that a hidden process is using the microphone

    Little bit of context; I managed to install Windows 10 through boot camp assist, and when logging into Windows 10 my monitor (cinema hd display 23inch) keeps blinking black every 5 to 10 seconds. Could anyone let me know what the problem could be and possibly how to fix it? Thank you very much! :)

    I tried some stuff from the gallery such as Set Audio Output but apparently it's not supported on Mac because I get error message: 'The action "Set Playback Destination" is not supported on Mac.' Like why is it even in the gallery then .. But if anyone has any useful or fun shortcuts, I'd love to see them.

    Safari - Clicking a link opens a new tab, but not the link you clicked on.

    Anyone else experiencing this issue with Monterey? When I click on a link that opens in a new tab, it opens the tab, but it is the start window, not the link you click. It is driving me crazy.

    The fix is to restart Safari.

    How to open images directly via messaging app on Monterey? (screenshot inside)

    When I double-click on images via the messaging app on monterey, this box opens first and then I have to make another active selection to open the image. How do I delete this box so that the image opens immediately?

    This started with monterey. During big sur, the picture was opened immediately.

    MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) — any advice on upgrading from Mojave?

    Hello everyone,

    my old MacBook Pro is still running macOS Mojave, and now that — seemingly — brew will soon no longer support that macOS version, I wondered if it's finally time to upgrade to Big Sur or Monterey.

    Are there any downsides of upgrading? I've heard some things™, but I'm not sure if they are applicable.

    MacBook Pro M1 pro MagSafe won’t charge laptop when it’s off

    It will only charge the laptop when the laptop is already one. When I use the same block a usb-c it will charge when off. When I use MagSafe cable and another brick it will charge when off. It just won't charge when I use the 125w and MagSafe together when laptop is off. Only when it is on. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Anyone else experienced/experiencing terrible battery performance with Big Sur & Monterey?

    Using a 2019 Macbook Pro and it initially came running on Catalina which was great and I had no issues at all. Battery life was approximately a good 8h ish. Good enough to not notice any issues at least. Then I installed Big Sur, and it completely ruined my battery life. It's dropping 1% every minute, so my battery would literally only last about 1.5h???!!! I read that it's very normal for this to happen in the first few hours of the upgrade, but no it's been consistently happening and just 2 days back I installed Monterey. Still no change in battery life.

    My macbook isn't even 2 years old so the fact that I can't even leave the house without the charger is kind of ridiculous.

    Will keeping too many background apps/processes make your laptop slower over time?

    I know the obvious answer is likely yes, but on a daily basis, I have these apps open:

    • Basics like Firefox, Word, Outlook
    • aText (text expander)
    • keyboard Maestro (automation and macros app)
    • Google Drive (file sync ...)
    • Raycast (better spotlight search)
    • Rectangle (window management app)
    • Text Sniper (Take a screenshot and copy the text in the image to your clipboard)

    I have an M1 macbook pro with 16 GB of RAM, and there doesn't seem to be any memory issue because the computer is quite new. But if I always keep this running, will this have a significant impact?

    Anyone else finding video encodes slow on Monterey?

    My M1 MacBook Air used to get pretty hot when encoding (no fan inside!).

    After the upgrade to Monterey, it no longer gets hot. However it also seems like the video encodes are going much slower, a movie on the given settings used to take ~3 hours, now seems to be taking > ~7 hours.

    It's as if they fixed some unknown problem by throttling the computer :/

    Anyone else finding this?

    Made macOS Mojave look like Mountain Lion as part of my quad-boot (Windows, Linux, macOS 10.14, macOS 12.) Thought some of you might find it a little nostalgic

    How to make this go away? I updated to Monterey and this ORAGNE DOT stays visible in the menu bar even when playing full screen videos. I am using EQMac which is the source of the Orange Dot. I JUST WANT IT TO GO AWAAAAAAAAY!

    Bluetooth not working on MacBook Pro (2017) after Monterey Beta and full

    Anyone else got this problem?

    Got the MacOS Monterey Beta, the Bluetooth stopped working. No Connection possible, neither with an Apple Device like AirPods nor with a third party Bluetooth mouse. Sometimes the devices show up for a second in the Bluetooth section but as soon as I connect to them, they're gone. Thought this would be fixed with the official Monterey Release but it didn't. The Option to "Reset Bluetooth Module" is missing aswell. Apple Support not helpful at all.

    Macbook no longer charging devices with closed lid after monterey update.

    My M1 Macbook Pro used to charge my iPad and Note20, even with the lid closed. After the monterey update, when plugging in a device with the lid closed, it will charge for a few seconds, then stop. I have disabled low power mode, but it hasn't changed anything. Does anyone have an idea as to how I can continue to charge my devices with the lid closed, as it really comes in handy when you are mobile or in a rush.

    PDFs/ Documents no longer open in same window after Monterey Update

    Hi, I need to have a a few different pdf books open at the same time and each time I open a new one, a new window pops up instead of opening a new tab in Preview. I have already selected System Preferences > General > Prefer New Tabs 'Always', but that hasn't done the trick. The new window popup happens when I choose a pdf from Books and from Finder.

    Anyone else have this? Any ideas on how to solve?

    Can't Scroll Time Machine Backups?

    Been having this problem across various hard drives and Time Machine backups for the past two years or so. For some reason, I cannot access my backups in the Time Machine UI (what do you even call it, the rolodex?). The backups turn red when I hover over them, but they are a lighter shade of red than the ones I'm able to access. I haven't been able to find a single answer. I can access all of the files perfectly fine by opening the time machine backup in Finder, but I can't view it in the rolodex. I'm trying to access my library folder and I can't do it unless I'm able to command+shift+G.

    After updating to monterey my M1 Macbook Air's battery drains while it's plugged in

    It says charging on hold, rarely used on battery

    But the issue is that the battery still drains even though it's using the power adapter as the power source

    Before the update, when it was in this state the battery would not drain

    Monterey Airplay to Mac - possible to disable the prompt for "accept/decline"?

    I have a Mac Mini hooked up to my TV that is signed into a different apple ID. Even though I currently have the AirPlay Receiver set to "anyone on the same network", it is still prompting me to accept or decline. Is it possible to disable this prompt and allow immediate airplay from my phone to the mini?

    Slow USB-C speeds on macOS Monterey?

    I seem to be experiencing slow USB-C speeds on macOS Monterey. I have a SanDisk Extreme SSD which I've been using for under a year along with a MacBook Pro M1. I attempted to move some photos to it and noticed the process was taking far longer than usual. After running some tests I found:

    • The drive reads/writes at a maximum of 15MB/s over USB-C to USB-C. I have tried the supplied cable, an iPad cable, a MacBook Air cable, MacBook Pro cable and tested a new 3.1 Gen 2 cable from Amazon all with the same results.
    • Using a USB-C hub, with standard USB-A to USB-C, I get 330MB/s.
    • The same results occur on both thunderbolt ports.

    I wondered why the drive would be behaving like this when I realised last I used it was before I upgraded to Monterey, leading me to believe this is the only differing factor and potentially the issue. Has anyone else experienced this and perhaps found a solution at all?
