Weekly /r/iOSGaming Discussion - What have you been playing lately and what do you recommend?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 04:00 PM PST

Please use this thread to discuss whatever iOS games you've been playing lately. They don't have to be new games, they can be old games and they do not have to be iOS original titles!

As long as it's an iOS game it belongs in here. Make sure to put the name(s) of the game(s) in bold to make it easier for people skimming the thread to see what you're talking about, and if you'd like to make it really convenient turn the game name into a hyperlink that sends people directly to the App Store!

To keep track of the thread, the comments are sorted by "new" by default.

I'd like some recommendations for a casual RPG game...

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 06:39 AM PST

Just wanna relax on my iPad, so I'm looking for some thing casual, maybe idle. I want a RPG in the sense of "many classes to choose from", "many skills to take". Basically a good character customization.

A paid offline game is fine too. But I would like a game where I only need to care about my character, so not party-based, or at least the "companions" management can be minimized.

Anime-style would be preferable. (this doesn't mean it MUST be anime, I'm cool with everything, just a bonus if it's anime style)

    Thanks!

Good strategic games that aren’t terribly slow?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 09:51 AM PST

Looking for something like conquest of nations where you can pick an existing country. I like CoN but it seems so slow and payment based? Any alternatives?

Coming back over to iOS - looking for titles

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 07:37 AM PST

I own almost everything on Android that's worth anything, but I'm fed up with the platform and coming back over to iOS. Any good premium games I've missed being on Android for the last 10 years?

What do you all do to save battery life?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 05:22 PM PST

I noticed that Slime isekai memories drains a lot of battery and does so even when charging. My question to you all is: what do you do to save on battery life if you play a lot of IOS games? I'm using an ipad 8th gen personally

Don’t miss Skyweaver that recently softlaunched

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 02:30 PM PST

It's still beta but is VERY polished, with deep and interesting mechanics, a cool art style with high quality card effects and sound landscape. I've been playing a lot of different CCG's, but this one feels different in a good way.

Beta invite should be really quick and with no TestFlight shenanigans.

Any roguelikes that have progressive item and character evolution that are worth playing?

Both free and payed options are welcomed.

Also if it can be played in portrait and with one hand it's a big plus.

    Help: SciFi Explorer Strategy Game

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 11:31 AM PST

A few years ago I had a game on my iphone5c (I'm always way behind on the latest release so that may not be info to work from) that I can't seem to find anymore and I miss it everyday.

Sort of like Into the Breach in style and gameplay. You played as a character in a spacesuit that started at a small base where you could equip items/weapons you had previously collected (and I think possibly purchase others) and when ready to play you enter a tube/portal and get sent to a random "planet". The planet was strategy tile style layout, with fog of war map until you explored further. You would interact with tiles of rocks/holes/crystals and have a choice of aggressive (ex. smash the rock) or passive/friendlier (ex. peer into the hole) actions. But it was kind of a crapshoot for what would be the better choice. Sometimes you'd get hurt or poisoned, sometimes you'd get bonus perks or items. Sometimes you even had a little alien buddy follow you and help out.

You basically were exploring the tile layout to find another portal to take you to another randomized planet and you got to keep the perks and items you had collected so far. If you didn't enter the endstage portal in a certain timeframe, this black shape would start taking over tiles and heading towards you, often sending a faster alien creature ahead of it for you to fight.

Not sure how much more of my rambling would be helpful...um the graphics style was also a bit more sleek and updated than Into the Breach....thanks!

    Putt-Putt Adventure Games

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 08:50 PM PST

I just found out that these are all on the App Store. Along with Spy Fox, Pajama Sam, and Freddi Fish. I used to play them all when I was a kid. I know they're short. I paid for more of the nostalgia aspect of it. They aren't long, but they are still fun to me. Glad I was able to play them. I only have Putt-Putt games, I do plan on getting the other ones (Spy Fox, etc.) when I finish them.

Why are developers ignoring the Apple TV?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 10:43 PM PST

The 2021 Apple TV 4K has a pretty decent (albeit old) A12 Bionic chip. It should be able to run almost all games on the App Store just fine. So why are so many of the popular games like PUBG, COD, GTA etc. not on the Apple TV? Does the Apple TV version require additional development? Isn't TVOS just iOS under the hood?
