Posted: 03 Nov 2021 09:00 PM PDT I've been testing the spatial audio with Dolby atmos feature on a variety of content from Apple TV+ on my Apple TV (Foundation, See, etc, basically whatever is available) and I feel like the audio, while definitely sounding like it's coming from around me rather than right up against my ears through headphones, also sounds a little tinny. Voices just don't sound right. The audio for the TV shows and movies sounds much richer just in normal headphone mode. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there some setting I should be using to make things sound better? [link] [comments]  | ||

On my iPhone Apple TV is the only app the get Dolby atmos, and Netflix only get stereo spatial audio and the rest I checked get multichannel instead of Dolby atmos, so does the Apple TV 4K get Dolby atmos where it's available or is it the same as the iPhone? | Dolby Atmos with Apple TV also works via ARC (not just eARC) Posted: 04 Nov 2021 04:04 AM PDT Only raising this because I've read here on reddit and other forums that Dolby Atmos with the ATV will only work via eARC and not ARC because it is sent via MAT. The Apple website also specifies that "Apple TV 4K uses a high bandwidth form of Dolby Atmos that doesn't work over ARC connections." However, I have a LG B7 OLED (2017 model) which only has ARC (not eARC) and my soundbar gets Dolby Atmos from my ATV. My Sonos Arc is connected to the HDMI ARC port and my ATV 4K is connected to another HDMI port. Dolby Atmos also worked when I had the LG SN11RG soundbar connect via ARC. I'm not sure why it works because according to everything on the net, and even the Apple TV itself, it's not supposed to because it sends as "uncompressed multi channel LPCM". Wondering if somehow the LG TV is still sending the Atmos metadata from the ATV 4K to the soundbar. As a side note, I did notice a bug with the ATV that originally did not allow the Atmos signal after selecting the audio output as "TV speakers" or "Receivers speakers". The Audio Format would only show "Auto". Going into the Audio Format option and switching "Change Format" to "On" and then back to "Off" would then display the Audio Format as "Auto, Atmos Available". Music, movies, and TV shows that utilise Atmos all work properly via the ARC connection. It's not stereo PCM being converted to surround. If anyone is having issues with their ARC connection and Dolby Atmos, hoping the above solution helps. [link] [comments]  | ||

| Samsung QN85A Subtitles Too Dim or Too Bright to read - Apple TV Related Posted: 04 Nov 2021 02:35 AM PDT Samsung QLED NEO QN85A Subtitles Too Dim or Too Bright to read My TV model is the 85 inch Samsung QN85a (which apparently has a VA panel). Issue: Subtitles appear too dim OR too bright based on the picture on screen making them illegible. Could possibly be made worse with external media sources such as an Apple TV/ Chromecast with Google TV. From reading other forums, I understand some people have had similar issues which Samsung may have tried to fix with a software update, but the issue seems to prevail. Some have said to change local dimming to low to help but this doesn't always correct the problem (actually from my own experience it doesn't). | [help] MFI controllers connected but not working for any games twOS 14/15 ATV 4th gen Posted: 03 Nov 2021 07:31 PM PDT I have a PS 4 controller and a SteelSeries controller that both connect but do nothing in any games. I feel like on idiot, thinking that just because they seem to be connected in every conceivable way that it should simply work once a game is running? They both show as connected in BT menu; connected blue controller icon shows in control center when game is running; can remap buttons on the PS4 controller in bluetooth menu globally or on an individual game basis. But in any of those games for which the controller buttons can be remapped, the controllers do nothing. Additionally, games that require a controller sit there telling me I need to have a controller connected, while there's a big blue icon in the control center indicating that I have one connected... Long time mac/ios/tvos user and everywhere else, if a BT device or controller says it's connected and you're in an app/game that supports it, it would "just work." I can't find anything about his type of behavior elsewhere online, hence feeling like there's some "intuitive" step I'm missing; lacking intuition as I apparently do.... edit: being an Apple user, I've naturally reset and updated the ATV, uninstalled and reinstalled everything, but to no avail. | Posted: 03 Nov 2021 03:07 PM PDT Hello - I'm curious to know what download speeds (via Wi-Fi only) you are getting on your Apple TV OS 15.1.1 (or Apple TV OS 15.1). My Setup
Everything was working great on OS 15. Sometimes, I could sometimes achieve download speeds of around 400Mbps. Average was around 250Mbps. Now on 15.1.1 (and I think 15.1), I average around 50Mbps. I have restarted the Apple TV (multiple times), rejoined the network and have yet to be able to achieve my earlier speeds. Item of note: My upload speeds are still great before/after (around 180Mbps). When I choose a high bit rate movie on Plex, it takes forever for the movie to load on the Apple TV. When I choose the same movie on another device (iPhone or Mac), it loads instantaneously (as well as my speed tests are always above at least 200Mbps). I saw a few other threads with Wi-Fi issues, but didn't see any real world results/metrics. I'm hoping people can share some of their results here. Thanks! [link] [comments]  | ||

Posted: 03 Nov 2021 04:48 PM PDT To give an example if I wanted to rent or buy A Quiet Place on Apple TV the app shows me it's on Paramount+ and the quality it has on there which is HD as I've linked Paramount+ with ATV, if I scroll down to how to watch and click rent it still doesn't show me the specifications of what I'm renting at all. If I open the iTunes app on my phone I can see that the rented version is 4K and has Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, is there anyway to get that info without renting through the iTunes app on the iPhone? Posted: 03 Nov 2021 04:06 PM PDT Hello, I rang Apple to discuss but as the Paw patrol movie is so new they don't know why it doesn't play on 3rd party apps at the moment and told me to talk to Microsoft or Amazon about firmware. Now quick overview. I use the AppleTV app on my Apple devices and on the Xbox series X and the Amazon 4K fire stick. These 3rd party devices are pretty new and up to date. I'm in the U.K. and I recently bought the paw patrol movie on the Apple store. It plays on Apple devices but not on the Amazon stick or Xbox. It says "device not supported, please try on an Apple product". My issue is all my other films work, just that one. I'm wondering if others have run into this issue. It's possible firmware but then more people would be reporting issues surely? Apple support palmed it off and said to ring back in a couple of days in case a firmware is released so just checking if it's specific to me or not. Sorry if the post isn't allowed here. Cheers. I connected the Apple TV via t he e iPad and signed into iCloud. However when I navigate to the Home icon, all I see are my Favourite Scenes. No devices appear in the menu. | Streaming apps display snow after 30 minutes or so of watching Posted: 03 Nov 2021 09:34 AM PDT Since 15.1, my Apple TV 4K (the newer one) has started with a bug whereby, after watching anything for 30-60 minutes, the picture will cut out and the display will show old-fashioned static / snow, while the audio continues. Force closing whatever app I'm watching doesn't fix this, and neither does restarting the Apple TV. The only thing that works is pulling the plug and then plugging it back in after 10 seconds or so. This is obviously supremely annoying, and while it seems to happen the most in Disney+, it's also occurring in BBC iPlayer, Netflix, and Apple TV+. This didn't happen on any other previous version of tvOS, and since 15.1 fixed so many other problems I was having with HomeKit, I REALLY don't want to roll back. Has anyone else encountered this? Sometimes its worse then others, but it's always off and unwatchable. This is very annoying because it makes me rely on chrome browser to cast to the built in TV chromecast.
