iPhone keeps autocorrecting “20” to “2.0”

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 06:55 AM PST

Hi! Running the latest version of iOS and every time I write out 20 it autocorrects to 2.0 and no matter how many times I correct it it keeps doing it. Super annoying. I added a "20" to correct to "20" in keyboard text replacements which worked with duck and fuck but not working with this. Please help! Thank you.

Edit: I found an app that had 2.0 in the title. I suspect it came from that because for the longest time I would write Mario and iOS would autocorrect to MARIO because I had MARIO RUN which is in all caps. But, nope, still getting 2.0 when I type 20. I've tried typing 20 a hundred times in the notes app and it still wants to auto correct to 2.0.

Edit2: thanks, /u/ew435890, for pointing out I needed to restart after deleting the app. Strange that app names are ranked so highly in the dictionary iOS creates for each user!

Been with iOS for about a month now *impressions*

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 10:53 AM PST

The last time I had an iPhone was the iPhone 6. Since then I've been with Android, and my last Android phone was the Pixel 3 and now I have the iPhone 13 Pro.

Overall iOS is great. I like the look and feel, I like how all apps and widgets follow the same design patterns, the camera is fantastic (particularly video - this is where my Pixel 3 fell short), the vibrate is way nicer on iOS etc. I could go on.

I miss the following Android features:

    1) Notifications - Android is leagues ahead, imo. They are so much more customisable and you can mute different notification types within the same app. It's easier to reply from the notification shade (this isn't possible on iOS unless you swipe down on the banner from what I can tell, but once that's gone you have to open it up). Finally, you can view a lot more from the notification shade. You can see images without having to open the message. I'd love to see iOS notifications develop a little more on these fronts.

    2) The way it handles locking to portrait mode is better than iOS I think. When the phone is tilted a little icon pops up in the corner and you can press it to rotate the screen. In iOS you need to go into the notification shade.

    3) Swiping back in an app can be done from both sides of the screen on Android. On iPhone it's a bit of a reach for me since I'm right handed.

Anyways this is it really. Overall I'm loving iOS and glad I made the switch. This really is a fantastic phone and OS.

Oh also, what's with only being able to set one timer in the stock clock app. What's that about?

Looking for new email service and password manager

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 02:14 PM PST

    Hi all

So as I am now very well invested in apples ecosystem, and I'm looking for specifically an email replacement to gmail, and what the community recommends for a password manager

My email is mostly for getting email from places, I don't generally email out from it, sort of password reset, so I'm not sure if it's worth paying for, and instead switch to say iCloud email

The password manager I'm fine paying for, it will be across apples ecosystem so not sure which to get

    Thanks!

iPhone 13 Pro basically ruins selfies

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 02:30 PM PST

Every time I take a selfie and go look at it, it looks fine for a second and then it becomes way sharper and makes my skin look really rough and bad. Is there a way to stop these auto-edits? My iPhone Xs Max never did that or at least not to such an excessive extent.

How do I turn off notifications for a specific app at specific times?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 05:45 AM PST

I have Outlook exclusively for work emails. I don't want to receive notifications for work emails when I'm not at work but I need to receive them when I am working.

I thought Focus Modes would be the answer but it works backwards to how I need it to. I don't want to have to create a specific focus that allows every other app except Outlook.

Ideally it would automatically disable notifications for Outlook between 8-6 every week day without me having to turn it on or off.

    Thanks!

    Notifications delivered quietly

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 11:42 AM PST

My notifications from almost every app delivers quietly since ios14. I'm on ios15 and still the problem exists . I've reset settings and turned phone on, it goes back default for awhile and then delivers quietly again.

Excuse the poor sentences. English is 2nd language

Thank God iOS doesn’t allow chatheads and other “draw over other apps” behaviors

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 01:55 PM PST

tl;dr: I got an Android phone to use only for Uber driving. The Uber Driver app on Android (contrasted with the iOS version) is a microcosm of how "customization" on Android can enable spammy and obnoxious app behaviors that are not permitted on iOS.

I'm a full time Uber driver while in nursing school, and I daily a iPhone 12 (love it). I recently decided to buy an inexpensive Android phone to use exclusively for Uber. I did this for several reasons, mainly avoiding wear and tear on the iPhone, and having a backup if the app goes down on one platform or the other (happens a lot).

Anyway, I'm a few days into this, and my god, there are so many obnoxious behaviors that the Uber Driver app is allowed to have on Android, which are simply not permitted on iOS. I never appreciated how much iOS protects my user experience until I went through this unintentional side-by-side comparison.

1.) The Android version of Uber Driver has a "chat head" that is on your screen at all times. And I mean, at all times. If I am in between rides and want to text someone, check Reddit, or whatever the case may be, there is a large circle with the Uber logo on the screen on top of all other apps. The other apps do this as well, so if you are also running DoorDash/Lyft/GrubHub/etc, your screen looks like a pepperoni pizza.

2.) If a ride request comes in while I am doing something else, instead of a notification, I get a giant box that takes up half the screen. And anyone who has driven for Uber knows, it's easy to accidentally click on it. So I could be replying to a Reddit post, and BAM! Full screen ride request that I accept before I even know what happened.

3.) Any app that is running can put a custom persistent notification icon in the upper left of the screen that cannot be disabled. So for someone like me, if I'm running Uber, DoorDash, Lyft, etc, I have this huge bar of different notification icons at the top. Contrast this with iOS, where the left of the notch just turns into a neutral button that you can click to jump into the running app.

I know that iOS sometimes gets criticized for locking down the user experience, and some of those criticisms are valid. But this experience has given me so much more of an appreciation for some of the restrictions that are placed on apps. Luckily, I only use the Android phone for Uber, but couldn't stand to deal with it as a daily.

PS: In Android's defense, you can disable the chat heads and drawing over other apps, but Uber simply won't allow the app to run if you disable those permissions. Whereas with iOS, those powers are never even available to the devs to tempt them.

Disable warning message when Siri turns off location services

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 12:28 PM PST

I use Siri to turn on/off location services a lot but whenever I turn it off via Siri by saying "location services off", I get a consent warning message from Siri stating "turning off location services will disable location data…" etc etc. I have to wait for her to finish speaking which takes a whole 10secs and then confirm Yes to actually turn off the location services. This imo is a little annoying and not the best user experience.

So, is there any way I can turn that warning off so Siri can directly turn off the location services with just 1 command ?

Birthday not saving in contact info if year is - - - -

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 04:03 PM PST

    iPhone 11 Pro user here.

Every time I try to add some birthday info to any contact but without filling the year (ie: 24/11/- - - -) it shows as saved but when I go back to Contacts and back again it has already disappeared. Did it happen to any of you before? Is there a way to fix it? I find it too annoying.

One more thing. Noticed this happening since before iOS 15.

Edit: it happens with default calendar only, if I set any other calendar it works as intended.

    More stable Bluetooth connection

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 03:31 PM PST

Ok so I have my phone tethered via Bluetooth to my wifi iPad when I'm at work. Problem is the connection for access to data is unstable. It'll disconnection every few minutes and I can't find a way to stop this.

The connections instability affects my routing app so if there's a way to fix this I'd really love to know.

I'm near about ready to sink on an LTE portable hotspot. And if this is the only way, so be it.

Why didn't I get the cell model? Because I didn't realize the wifi only one didn't have gps and it's too late to return and swap, as I didn't originally buy it for work anyway. Plus, an external module linked to the iPad is easier to place as having a tablet in the windshield is kind of stupid.

    Notification Grouping

Is there a way to have the notification grouping setting default be off rather than on? I dont like them grouped, and I dont want to have to remember to go into each new app I download to turn it off.

    TIA

I have text files without a .txt extension. They are dim to Pages or text editor apps on my iPad. Is there a Windows Notepad-style iPadOS that can read and open these ASCII text files?

These are text files of readings from spectrometers called JCAMP .DX files.

Subscriptions not showing up in the subscription area

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 02:22 PM PST

I am wondering where my subscriptions are supposed to show up (iCloud+ and Apple Music), which are shared by my family, since they don't show up in the subscriptions part in the settings.

It shows up under the family shared thing though.

Transferring epubs and mp3s from PC/Android to iPhone

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 02:18 AM PST

I'm a longtime Android user, all my books and music are stored on there, as well as backed up to Google Drive.

How would I transfer this to iPhone? I've tried a few apps like Cloudbeats, but the download feature is paid-only. I have no interest in streaming or iTunes so I'm not using Apple Music (and my music files aren't showing up in there anyways). Kindle only accepts mobis and that's a last resort since all my books are epub. Apple Books has terrible margins.

I want to access my books and music offline, rather than streaming it like Spotify does. How do I get the files from Google Drive to my iPhone? The file manager only lets me transfer one file at a time which is kind of not an option when I've got over 500 songs and 100 books.

Is there a way to make it so a single quote mark is ' not ’ ?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 01:11 PM PST

My new iPhone SE renders single quotes as slanted not vertical; my 5S did that until I did a factory reset…or something. My iPod Touch 6 does vertical, as well

How do I adjust it so I get a ' and not a ' when do a single quote, like for 's and such?

"Notifications Silenced" message won't go away

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 12:43 PM PST

Hi -- I just upgraded to iOS 15.

I've disabled "Focus Status" but when my friends text me, there's still an "OP has notifications silence" message. This has happened even with Do Not Disturb off.

Is this a glitch, or am I missing something really simple?
