Does apple wanna blow out my eardrums or something? Posted: 30 Nov 2021 05:26 PM PST What in gods name was apple thinking when they made the notification sound for low battery, its too damn loud, it hurts my ears, and hearing loss is not a joke, I will be playing my music at a volume that works for my ears then I hear some stupid garbage loud for no reason notification sound, seriously, I would rather just have my airpods die out on me because at least I wont suffer hearing loss. Will apple sell a power supply for m1 iMac? Posted: 30 Nov 2021 03:50 PM PST Power adapters for the new MacBook pros are on the apple store but nothing for the m1 iMac. Will this be something apple offers? [link] [comments] |
Why I returned my M1 Pro MBP and bought an intel (music producer) Posted: 30 Nov 2021 05:37 PM PST I am a music producer who had been producing on a 2015 13" MBP with dual core intel and 8GB of ram. This machine is quite limiting but I would make it work. Sometimes I would have to mute tracks in order to record new parts and I usually couldn't have more than one very demanding VST running at the same time. I had been preparing to upgrade to a new computer for awhile and knew that the new macbook pros were coming out so I waited. I bought the 1tb 16" and it cost right around $2700 after tax. Major pros right out of the box - the battery life is ridiculous. I don't think I charged the laptop until the 3rd or 4th day of using it. -speakers and mic are fantastic. As a producer that often sets up and records in mobile locations, I think I could produce and record a session in a pinch using the speakers as monitors and the mic, as long as I had ear buds for tracking vocals. In fact, everything was really great except for the one thing - the screen. The screen had beautiful colors and was crazy bright, but it didn't feel right to use. For starters, the pixel response time is terrible. As a producer (and a software developer) I believe the primary function of a computer monitor is always responsiveness - the monitor is the way you interact with the computer. The pixel response is immediately noticeable in every instance, from scrolling through text to watching videos. I am pretty keyed into pixel response and hold it as a very important standard, especially on a 120 Hz display. I noticed this immediately upon using it, and I thought this was the main reason I was getting headaches while using the display. However, I noticed that even looking at the display with a static image would start to make my head pound a bit. After using the computer for a few days, I would open the computer and feel a rush when I looked at the display, but even after 20-30 minutes I would start to feel really bad. It actually felt like a drug using the display. So I'm not really sure what was going on with the display, but I am a little scared of it. It could be placebo, but I feel like my general vision has gotten worse since using the display. It also scares me that initially opening the computer would give my head a rush of excitement, but I would start to feel noticeably worse pretty quickly after using it. I would get that brain-attled feeling I got as kid playing 10 straight hours of COD, but it was from 1 hour of computer time. So I returned the computer and just bought a 16" inch macbook pro off craigslist. $1550, 1tb, 32gb ram, i9 2.4 ghz. It feels good to spend almost 1/2 as much, and I am much more happy with the screen. I know that this machine is going to be very sufficient for my music production, especially considering that I got by on a machine with 1/4 as much RAM, 1/4 as many cores. I'm curious to hear if anyone else feels the same or differently about the screen of the new M1 Pros, and also about any music producers who moved to M1. Is there some glaring issue with this new MBP that I might be over looking? I think there is still a compelling case to buy intel computers for a lot of people - there is a ton of 16" MBPs on the used market right now that have been kept in excellent condition by professionals. Probably the worst part of the machine since using it is the tacky touch bar, but I think I can probably figure out some use for it. tl;dr The new m1 pro laptops screens would give me a headache and something about them felt almost 'wrong' to use to me (like a drug with highs and lows). The used market for intel macbooks is at an all time low and its easy to get one in excellent condition right. I might be crazy but I have a suspicion that more people might start to realize that the new ProMotion displays have some type of negative health affect, so I wanted to get a good computer for cheapish before that might be the case. Even now I am realizing that I probably would have been fine getting a quad core 2015 MBP with 16GB of ram, and am considering dropping this machine and going even cheaper. As a musician something about using the bare minimum to get by gets me going ;) I am mostly posting this for a critical dialogue about the new displays. I really don't mean to hate on the new machines. I think they still are epic feats of engineering. [link] [comments] |
