Why isn't Apple making a professional photo editing application? Posted: 06 Nov 2021 04:39 PM PDT Ok guys and gals, hear me out: Is there any reason why Apple is not developing their version of a professional photo editing software? I've been thinking about this for quite a lot, and it really seems like a wasted opportunity. I mean, we've got: - Logic Pro X and Mainstage which cover the audio part - Final Cut Pro X and Motion (and Compressor?) which deal with the video part - where are my photo editing apps at??? I can only dream of Apple's "interpretation" of a Lightroom-like software, with their legendary level of polish (as we've seen in the latest updates of Logic and Final Cut). Oh, and also I'd be willing to pay like $200 upfront only once instead of giving Adobe money every month, which is one of the main reasons why I've decided to stick with Apple's professional software suite for so long. What do you think? Wouldn't it be amazing to have this piece of software on the M1 iPad Pro? Let me know in the comments, I'd really love to elaborate on this [link] [comments]
Apple has got to stop treating paid subscription services as Beta products with no support. Posted: 06 Nov 2021 07:11 PM PDT Especially iCloud storage. The new "custom domain" feature for email handling that is advertised as being included with paid accounts is an embarrassment. The DNS instructions are not formatted correctly to the point that I had to manually guess at changes to the format until it worked (and I'm using Google Domains, not some random company). Even worse, if you want to add more email addresses after initial setup to your "custom domain" that Apple advertises and charges for, (I kid you not) you currently have to delete your existing custom email address, disconnect your domain from iCloud, reconnect your domain to iCloud, then re-add your email plus add the new email addresses for family members. Don't get me started that Apple still doesn't fully support iCloud email addresses as AppleIDs (some say it works, but no-one I know has gotten it to work), but that's not technically a paid service. I love Apple hardware and the ecosystem in general, but how does the richest company in the world not offer competent email support in 2021? [link] [comments]
Alas, poor iMac, I fear your time has come. Your light has flickered and gone dark... Posted: 06 Nov 2021 07:35 PM PDT You first arrived on my desk back in 2010, your gorgeous, glossy 27" screen and finely milled aluminium chassis taking the place of a 19" BenQ monitor that had been hooked up to my self-built PC. Finally, I was back in Mac, PC was sacked, I've been too long, I'm glad to be back. For six years you were my powerhouse, making every day of work a pleasure. Sure, you were a bit ditzy when I first got you, lacking a little in the memory department. But that was just a ploy on my part, ordering you with the lowest memory option from Apple so that I could later surprise you with a sparkling gift of an aftermarket memory upgrade. But then you started to get sick, those tell-tale purple and green blocks appearing across your display. I tried to make you better, but nothing seemed to work. I knew it was time to retire you and replace you with your slimmer and curvier sister. From the front, you could see the family resemblance, but swing you and your sister around and the difference was obvious. You always had a bit more junk in your trunk, and your little sisters rear was a thing of beauty, the smooth curving lines, tapering to a slim edge were always going to win my heart. But I wasn't ready to say goodbye yet. A mini DisplayPort cable was purchased and you and your little sister were connected, holding electronic hands every day. A tap on CMD-F2 each time you awoke and you were still alive, serving as a second display. For five years you've sat there, in daily use, until tonight. Your screen started to flicker then went dark. Your hard drive fell silent and your fans came to a stop. I tried CPR- I pressed your button rhythmically, hoping for a sign of life, your screen flickered a couple of times but went dark again almost instantly. I tried to get you to restart so I could reset your SMC and PRAM, but you remained silent. The time has come to return you to your box, which has been saved in the Apple box room for the past 11 years, alongside the boxes of your younger siblings, your iPad and iPhone cousins and your Watch, TV, Airport and various accessory nieces and nephews. You did well. 11 years of faithful service. And some people dared call you overpriced. [link] [comments]
For Anyone Downgrading M1 Macs from Monterey to Big Sur Posted: 06 Nov 2021 04:20 PM PDT You'll want to download the last version of Big Sur from the App Store, as if you try to load the public launch from November 2020, it doesn't show up in your boot selector. I spent all day figuring this out, don't waste your day like I did! [link] [comments]

We desperately need parity between the iTunes Store and Apple TV on MacOS Posted: 06 Nov 2021 09:28 AM PDT I was browsing the iTunes Store today on iOS and realized just how many bundles and discounts are available. None of which are exposed on the TV app. Community alone is over twice the price of you were to buy through AppleTV versus buying the complete bundle. Massive oversight that Apple really needs to address. Just give us the old store front like iOS has. Hell, it doesn't even require any real effort on their part since the App is still there (tucked away into a preferences option) in Apple Music. It even hilariously still has the drop down menu option to change between the "Music, /Movies/TV" stores….just with the Movie and TV options removed (it still functions as a drop down but with only one option). Anyone know how to speed up Siri interaction? Posted: 06 Nov 2021 10:48 PM PDT Hi I was wondering if anyone knew how to speed up interactions with Siri. I have no interest making Siri read text faster only respond. I would like to use Siri to take notes while listening to podcasts. To do that it involves multiple back and forth interactions and her reading back the note. I would like to stop the entire closed loop communication circuit and just get Siri to make the note no matter the accuracy of at the very least I'd like her to read it back at 2x speed. Anyone know how??! I would really really appreciate it!!!!!! :)) [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Nov 2021 10:49 AM PDT I bought my first MBP, not a big thing but when I pick it up I feel discomfort from the bottom vent location. Its edge is sharp but in awkward position. Not sharp enough to actually do any harm but sharp enough to have the odd feeling when you pick it up. What are your thoughs? [link] [comments]
1080P Facetime camera on the 2021 Macbooks is really bad Posted: 05 Nov 2021 07:00 PM PDT I do not understand how the various reviewers aren't commenting on this, but the 1080P Facetime camera on the new M1 Pros/Max machines is just bad. They have all this heavy filtering going on, feature smoothing, eye sharpening, etc. It just looks awful. The color is not great either. A 1080P camera should be capable of a nice sharp image, but this just isn't. I'm betting the camera itself is fine, but all the AI/filtering they do just ruins the image. It looks like I'm wearing makeup. I just look stupid on this camera. I have the M1 iPad Pro, and that camera is great in comparison. I hope they fix this, or give us a control panel to dial this back somehow, or just disable it entirely. [link] [comments] |
