Posted: 02 Nov 2021 02:53 PM PDT I changed planes in Vegas to my final destination, and my bag decided to stay behind and enjoy the airport I guess. When I got to my final destination, I immediately looked up my Airtag for peace of mind....shit, it was still in Vegas?! I was stoked that I could see exactly where it was, and file a report with the Baggage Claim folks without having to wait for every suitcase to come out on the carousel. It took them a day and a half to finally get my bag to me, and while I was still pissed at the airline, at least I knew where my bag was and could track it while on its way to me. I'd HIGHLY recommend anyone spend the $ just for the damned peace of mind. I would have been a wreck, standing at baggage claim at the beginning of a week-long photo workshop vacation, and having zero idea where my bag was or if it would ever show up. I hate checking a bag, but absolutely now would never check one again without an airtag in it. (I zip mine securely into an inside pocket, not on the outside.) [link] [comments]

TIL Today's 16" M1 Macbook Pro is actually thinner than the first-gen Macbook Air. Posted: 02 Nov 2021 02:43 PM PDT Take out the Air's tapered-edge and it's actually 0.1" thicker. It's funny to see everyone complain about how "thick" the new Macbook Pros are when in reality, they're thinner than the old Macbook Air. Pretty amazing if you think about it. 2021 16" Macbook Pro Height: 0.66 inch (1.68 cm) Width: 14.01 inches (35.57 cm) Depth: 9.77 inches (24.81 cm) 2008 Macbook Air Height: 0.16-0.76 inch (0.4-1.94 cm) Width: 12.8 inches (32.5 cm) Depth: 8.94 inches (22.7 cm) [link] [comments]

It is time for both Apple and Game Devs to take gaming seriously. Posted: 02 Nov 2021 04:42 AM PDT I know the MacBooks are not gaming oriented, that's not the point of the post. However, hear me out: Since the release of the new MacBooks, and even when the MacBook Air released, with the new M1/M1 Pro/M1 Max, there has been a steady increase in gaming videos and articles on Mac. Nowadays, it seems like my YouTube feed is nothing but gaming on Macs. There is obviously a demand for gaming and this looks to be like a lost opportunity to not take advantage of. I know Apple Arcade exists, but I am talking about AAA games with developers that have the money and the skill to port their games onto the new Macs. I also believe that Apple should work on some kind of translation software between OpenGL and METAL or find a different way to make it easier for developers to port their games onto Macs. The reason why I'm saying this is because I am sure that if a device exists where people could get professional work done during the day and game effortlessly during the night (just an example please dont hate me), people would FLOCK to buy these machines instead of dropping $2000+ on a professional device and $2000+ on a decent gaming laptop or rig. The Apple userbase who are interested in gaming are no longer a tiny percentage, I believe they have grown to be more substantial in numbers. Make games for Mac, many people will love you for it. Posted: 02 Nov 2021 04:51 PM PDT I'm having a strange experience with Apple around trade-ins and wondering if its happened to others. Sent in a 2015 iMac 1TB SSD as a trade-in to Apple. Worked great. Kept at our cabin. We sent it in to Apple via their shipping materials. Just got my trade-in estimate confirmation. "Broken screen and mismatched serial number." Value = $0. The folks at Apple are literally no help. They've offered to "open an investigation" and recommended that I decline the trade. But we shipped them a perfect functioning iMac and apparently its now broken. The truly strange thing here is that its the second time it has happen to me. When the first M1 came out, I sent in my work MBP as a trade. Got notice that "excessive pixels were defective" and they halved the value. The best part? Apple had replaced the screen a few weeks earlier as part of a warranty repair. It was working perfectly fine when I sent it in. Very odd and I'm starting to wonder if this is an "apple endorsed" scam being run by the 3rd party trade in partner. Has this happened to anyone else? [link] [comments]

[Rant] What happened to your customer service, Apple? Posted: 02 Nov 2021 07:17 PM PDT I swear, being on the phone with Apple Support has become my full-time job. And don't get me wrong, Apple used to have, IMO one of the best customer services out of all companies. I remember when I had issues with my iPhone or my iPad, I would just book an appointment with the Genius Bar online, get it fixed in very short delays, and voilà ! For my MacBook Pro on the other hand… customer service has been the absolute worst. It all started off about a year ago when my laptop started overheating - I'm talking burning hot. At that time, COVID-19 was peaking, Apple Stores were closed in my country (Canada), and there was no way to bring my laptop in for repair. Therefore, I called Apple to get some insight as to what to do. They suggested I mail it in for repair, but that they couldn't guarantee they would find a fix for it, and that in that case they would just mail my laptop back to me without fixing it or getting a replacement - since they said they typically do not replace MacBooks. They also suggested that I should not be using the laptop until a fix was found, yet they might return it to me without fixing it after a few weeks. Keep in mind, I was still covered by AppleCare at that time. I then asked if there were other options, and the employee I was talking to kindly said that this is the only option he can offer, but transferred me to a Senior Advisor. The first Sr. Advisor I talked to, as soon as I asked if there were any other options, replies with a ''Nope!'' and hangs up, which frankly, is the first time happens to me with Apple Support. I then have to call again to get transferred once again to another Sr. Advisor, who then says my issue is probably not a hardware issue, but a software one. We then spent several hours on the phone with me sharing my screen the whole time, and nothing was found. Then, almost every. single. day. after that, I had to wake up early in the morning to take on a call with them, share my screen, and proceed to test the same things we tested the day before. Hours. Every day. To finally, at the end, be told that it most likely is a hardware issue and that they can try replacing parts one by one - not having my laptop for weeks at a time and mailing it in every single time - to see if it would work or not. I therefore decided to leave it at that, and just turn my laptop off every time it overheated, and stay with an overheating Mac since I was not interested in having parts blindly replaced and mailing my laptop in every single time until the problem was fixed (which could potentially take months). And then, yesterday - I visit the Apple Store because there was some cosmetic damage on one of my keys (a chip on top of they key), and I was wondering if they could replace a single key on my model (MacBook Pro 2018). They tell me that since the damage is only cosmetic, they can easily replace it with a new key cap. Happy to hear this, I leave them my laptop, and they come back ten minutes later with the wrong key cap, likely from another model, put in place (the color and the size were different). The key had become sticky and would not travel anymore when typing on it. After several minutes of being told I was wrong and that the key cap is the right one, they realized that it was indeed not one from the same model, and said they would put my old one back in place. Now, that key isn't working anymore, which they said can happen when they replace keys since the butterfly mechanism is fragile, and Apple states that I will have to pay to replace the whole top part of the laptop. My whole keyboard also had to be replaced a few months after I bought the Mac, since several keys were sticky and Apple recalled it. I am now stuck with an overheating Mac and a key that does not work after it was broken at the Genius Bar, and Apple will not do anything about it without charging me the price of a new laptop since my warranty is over. Please save yourself the hassle, always get AppleCare+ or frankly, just don't buy a Mac. End of my rant. [link] [comments]
