iPhone-to-iPhone phone calls should automatically default to FaceTime Audio, just like messages become iMessage.

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 12:51 PM PST

Why hasn't Apple implemented this? I feel like FaceTime audio is very under-utilized.

FaceTime audio calls' quality is 100x superior to regular phone calls. Besides, they are encrypted and more secure.

Just like they did with messages becoming iMessage, the same should occur with phone calls. If data is of concern, then make it optional to opt-out or enable when only on wifi.

Kanagawa - relaxing puzzle game without ads

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 05:38 AM PST

    Hello!

    https://apps.apple.com/tt/app/kanagawa/id1501765511

I am solo developer and I programmed the game and created the art. I released this game 1.5 years ago and it has currently ~20 downloads. The project itself was a challenge for me to finish something, that I can be proud of. I have made many prototypes and small projects, but this was my first game release and learned a lot along the way:
    - A lot of programming, project management
    - the name is too hard ( the color scheme of the game was inspired by the painting "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" )
    - Too little marketing, should be started during development
    - Publish free version with few levels and possibility to unlock rest of the levels with in app purchase. I honestly don't like in app purchases, ads and subscription models, because those are everywhere, so I chose "the old model"; pay one time and it is yours to keep.

    Now little about the game:

It is puzzle game where you try to stack similar tiles to same pile. You can only pick up the top tile and it can moved only to a empty pile or on top of a similar tile. Maximum is 4 tiles per pile. See the trailer and you will get idea! It is very easy to learn! The game also includes tutorial levels.

    - There are 100+ solvable levels
    - Hand drawn graphics
    - Peaceful and relaxing atmosphere

The game is currently on sale!

    Enjoy!

Pareto Security app for macOS - Avoid common security mistakes on your Mac

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 02:42 AM PST

This app came out of "scratch your own itch". We're a small remote company and we often travel, go to conferences, meetups etc. - well at least before COVID-19. We're pretty conscious about security and know how to set up our own Macs. That's why Neyts, the cofounder, was shocked when he saw he forgot to set up FileVault months after buying his new Mac.

Then the story repeated itself when he was talking to a coworker. Neither of them are newbies to computers, security, or Macs and both of them were sure they had it set up.

What Pareto Security does is check regularly that all of these basics are taken care of.

Here's the current list of checks:

    • AirPlay receiver is off
    • Automatic login is off
    • Boot is secure
    • Firewall is on
    • FileVault is on
    • Gatekeeper is on
    • Password after inactivity
    • Password to unlock preferences
    • Remote Login is off
    • Remote Management is off
    • Screen saver shows in 5 min
    • Sharing files is off
    • Sharing media is off
    • Sharing printers is off

We plan on adding more and we've just launched the Teams dashboard for companies that would like non-invasive security for their team.

    Check it out here: https://paretosecurity.com/

The app is priced pretty inexpensively but we are giving a 30% discount to r/apple visitors with the coupon code: R-APPLE (active until 3rd December).

Would love to hear your feedback!

The “Widgets” app Version 4.0 Released

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 06:15 AM PST

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/widgets/id1470656333?mt=12

    (USA App Store Only)

Apple Notification Center widgets are pretty handy, but Apple says they're meant to be glanceable, not mini-apps. Well, the "Widgets" app is a collection of mini apps.

    Widgets

    • Audio Player
    • Bible
    • Calculator
    • Calendar
    • Clock
    • Contacts
    • Counter (Stopwatch, Tally, Countdown)
    • Dictionary
    • Elements
    • Quick Calculator (Second Calculator, Percentage: Calculator)
    • Reminders
    • System Stats
    • Text-to-Speech
    • Thesaurus
    • Unit-Converter
    • Weather
    • Web (Color, Base64, and KEEN Mini)
    • World Clock
    • GAME: Slide Puzzle

Although, it has Notification Center widgets too!

    • Daily Message (KJV Bible, CPDV Bible)
    • Grid Calendar
    • Periodic Table
    • System Stats

The big changes for version 4.0 are…

    • Every widget now has a title (except "Puzzle" & "Clock")
    • You can click the widget title to access additional widget settings. (HINT: Press the clock cap to access the settings for the clock.)
    • Each widget can have its own color theme
    • NEW WIDGET — Quick Calculator (Two Modes: Second Calculator & Quick: Percentage)
    • NEW Themes — Grassy (Green) & Lila (Purple). So, if you got a pretty new purple iMac for Christmas, this app can match the color. 😄

If you're looking for the iOS version, "Apparatuses" is available on iPhone & iPad…

…but that's still using the previous version. The plan is to create a tutorial video on Photics.TV (YouTube) that explains how to use the app (Hopefully this is done by Monday afternoon, but it could take longer.) and then to update the iOS version of Widgets. People have common questions, like how to hide a widget, how to access widget settings, so hopefully this new update makes that easier for people.

Also, with so many widgets, hopefully the colors makes it easier to find them. A green calculator should standout. 😄

AND ONE MORE THING — I'm glad that Apple added holiday hours. I sent this update on the day before Thanksgiving. It was approved the same day — NICE! I wasn't planning on using it, but development took two weeks longer than expected. It was nice to have the extra day to catch up. Actually, if this was last year, the update might not be out until next week because of the holiday break.

Apple Watch 7 scratches on screen

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 01:10 PM PST

    Hey guys

Just received my Apple Watch yesterday. After wearing it for a single day it looks like I have plenty of scratches on the screen. I didn't even leave the house besides for grocery shopping and I'm really disappointed in how such an innovative piece of tech comes with a glass that scratches from basic movement 😑

Right now I'm thinking about returning it. Anyone else made this experience so far?
