    Modern iPod for audiophiles

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 11:49 PM PST

I know it's been asked quite a bit at this point. But I want to know, for the audiophiles out there, if this might appeal for them.

Take an iPod touch (7th gen). Make it a bit thicker and give it a significantly larger battery. Keep the 3.5 mm Jack (and maybe add a 2.5 mm balanced jack). Streamline the OS for music. Put in a decent AMP/DAC. Give it close to the same storage size as new iPhones (512 Gb at the top end).

I ask this as a PC user, but Apple mobile user. I know I'm likely in the minority of users. But Apple makes damn good mobile devices that I've yet to justify moving from yet.

But on PC there is no way to take advantage of lossless files without buying them separately from Apple Music. And my current phone doesn't have enough storage for all my music as lossless as well as would require the use of the lightning-3.5mm dongle.

I understand that most people won't have use for ALAC or a separate device from their phones for music. But the audiophile niche is in fact there, and I think would love to have a audiophile device from Apple like the old iPod.

I believe that the iPod name still has some market power and could almost sell on the name iPod alone. Let alone if they make it a compelling audiophile device.

    Thoughts?

Switching from a iPhone 13 Pro Max to iPhone 13 Mini Impressions

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 07:08 AM PST

So to start with, I am one of the unlucky few that gets motion sick from the promotion display - which is my primary reason for switching. Over time I had gotten larger and larger phones because I felt like that was what I "needed". However, my favorite iPhone has always been the iPhone 5.

That was until I got the iPhone 13 Mini. This phone has quickly become my favorite iPhone of all time for a number of reasons.

    1. The Size - Even coming from a pro max, I do not feel like the functionality of the phone has taken a hit at all. After using it for a few days, it just became normal to me and I still do everything i did on my pro max.
    2. The Speed - This one is obvious, but its great to have such a small form factor phone with such a powerhouse (future proof) processor packed in.
    3. MagSafe - The often overlooked MagSafe is best on the iPhone mini. The wallet fits the phone perfectly, and seems to stay put much better than on the pro max. Likely because its not in the middle of the phone back and instead becomes the entire phone back. I also love how easy it is to position on my MagSafe dock.
    4. Battery Life - Although the Pro Max is almost certainly the battery champ, I have compromised nothing moving to a mini. My charging patterns have remained the same and without any issue getting through the day.
    5. Cameras - The cameras are the same as the Pro Max, less the telephoto. Truth be told, I didn't use the telephoto much except for to scan QR codes on my TV from across the room. So this was easy for me to give up.

All told, it makes me sad to hear the rumors that there will not be a mini moving forward. The mini is secretly the apex iPhone, and I believe that most people would find it to be their ideal phone as well.

    End.

Switching from Android to Apple next month.

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 04:16 PM PST

I know this probably seems like a pretty pointless post, but I felt the need to share my opinion.

I've never really been a proper fan of Apple, mostly because of the lack of customizable features compared to Android. I'll start of with saying that slowly but surely, Apple is catching up with it's new updates and they've got me kind of excited in a way.

I did appreciate one thing about Apple > Android though and that was simplicity and the smooth OS design. I think they've definitely always had such a sleek design and I've always enjoyed it.

Rambling aside though, the main reason I want to make this switch is simply because... I'm getting tired of Android and I want something new.

I currently have a OnePlus 8, and when I tell you it is probably the worst phone I've ever had, that's the honest truth. They have yet to fix the endless software issues which have caused my phone to crash, freeze, and lag consistently for the past year and a half.

To end this mostly pointless post though, I want to switch because I want to try something new. I love what Apple has been doing recently, so I guess it's time I give it a try. I'm going to spoil myself a bit and get the iPhone 13 Pro Max, I'll definitely update with how I feel about the switch.

Find My worked like a charm for a very lucky person!

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 03:48 PM PST

    Cool story...

Today I was driving to work when I saw an iPad Pro in the intersection right in front of me, just before the on-ramp to the expressway. I was at a stop light, so I threw my flashers on, jumped out and grabbed it quickly. I am surprised it had not been run over, but most assuredly would have very nearly if it had not been picked up.

I drove to work, trying to think of how I could get the iPad to the owner. I have several Apple products so it must have pinged my iphone or apple watch, location-wise. I got inside the office and, since the iPad was a wifi only device, I connected it immediately to the open network to give it a connection. It immediately gave me the lost mode message with the owner's name, phone number and message and started playing the lost device sound.

I called the phone number and asked for the owner. I told the owner that I was at the hospital and he told me that he was there, following the location feature on the iPad. I handed back the iPad to a very happy owner, who had his iPad back in hand within an hour of my finding it, even though I worked in a completely different city.

The iPad had fallen off of the roof of his car and was a little bent (a trip to a repair shop should fix it). Other than that it was fully operational.

    Super cool.
