I mainly use it for game development. However, there is an annoying issue happening with the music I listen to while working. Whether it's Unity, Godot or GameMaker, the moment I build the executable for the game, my music starts stuttering and glitching. Why is this happening? What resources does building a game executable uses, and why does it affect the music playing? I have also tried running Windows 11 arm inside Parallels, installing Unity and Spotify on it. | Macbook Air M1 Software update issue Posted: 24 Nov 2021 05:12 PM PST Hello, My Macbook was provided to me by an assistive technology company and so it was set up and had software installed on it before it was given to me, but I have an admin account which is the only user account on the laptop. I am trying to update and system preferences asks for the admin password, I enter the correct one and it either wiggles like it is incorrect, or the prompt disappears and the update does not progress at all. I have tried to delete the data downloaded for the update and start again, and I have tried to make another admin account but the same issue is happening. I have a Macbook Air M1 which is currently running Big Sur 11.1, and I'm trying to update to the latest Monterey version. Can anyone offer advice on this? [link] [comments] |

Is it safe to assume that the logic board works but I'd just need to replace the display? It's listed pretty cheap so buying and replacing the display would still be a good deal, but probably wouldn't be worth it if I had to replace the logic board. | Incase you have issues installing/upgrading macOS due to S.M.A.R.T. disk errors Posted: 24 Nov 2021 06:20 PM PST I want to preface this with a warning that you should actually look into what is causing your S.M.A.R.T. disk errors and replace the hard drive, especially if it is under warranty. If you are not comfortable with Terminal and/or are against performing a clean install, you should not attempt this. That said, in my case I was reformatting my old 2016 Macbook Pro and performing a clean install. After downloading the macOS Monterrey installer and running it, I was blocked by a message stating that "This disk has S.M.A.R.T. errors" that doesn't let you select your harddrive and continue. Here are a couple threads that were about this I found via google that are relevant: https://www.reddit.com/r/applehelp/comments/ex6j4i/how_do_i_fix_the_smart_error_on_mac_os/ https://www.reddit.com/r/applehelp/comments/lso5oq/replacement_internal_ssd_for_late_2013_mbpr/ If you find yourself in the same situation and decide to force installing macOS here is what I did: 1 - Create a USB Installer. Here's the specific instructions I followed from Apple: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372 2 - Format Your Harddrive using Disk Utility Word of warning again, before trying this. If you run into troubles here or can't get the terminal working after formatting you will be unable to install macOS using the GUI installer because the installer will run into the same issue I'm talking about, so make sure all the directions on here make sense before formatting your harddrive. You can follow the directions here to format using Disk Utility. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208496 I ran into issues with this, and instead reformatted the disk using the Terminal, using diskutil. I named my partition Untitled, but by default Disk Utility should name your volume/partition Macintosh HD. I followed some of these instructions: https://osxdaily.com/2016/08/30/erase-disk-command-line-mac/ 3 - Install macOS From Terminal The key to this is running the startosinstall command that is within the Install macOS Monterray app. The command I ran looked like this, but the beginning will different based on the location of your installer, and the volume ("Untitled" in my case) you pass will also differ: To find the volume you need it will be named whatever you formatted it as in Disk Utility. You can use the command "ls /Volumes" to list all the volume names that are available. Once you press enter it will start installing. You should see the Preparing: xx.x% update overtime. After about an hour of running the program and it restarting a few times, my 2016 Macbook Pro is running Monterrey. As far as I can tell, in my particular case my SMART issue seemed like it was related to having over 450TB of data written and read, but DriveDX didn't report any error in particular, and First Aid in Disk Utility didn't find any issue. Hope this helps someone. I couldn't find this approach posted anywhere, so figured I'd share since it was relatively straightforward for a situation I found frustrating, especially since the harddrive is not replaceable in my case. I promptly boxed my phone up and took it to a FedEx drop off point, same day. After that, I never received a "completed trade in" email. Instead, on November 8, I get an email saying my trade in has been cancelled. WTH. Started a text chat with Apple and get disconnected. So, I try again. Same thing happens. So, I end up calling. The tech tells me that they can see that they did receive my phone, but that because it was late they cannot accept it and that it will be sent back to me and a new trade in kit will be issued. Then, I get email on November 11th saying that the trade in kit has been sent, and I have until November 29th to send the phone back in. Fast forward to today: I have received no phone and no trade in kit. No one can tell me where my phone is, or the trade in kit, as the order number refers to the previous trade in kit that has already been delivered. But, during all this, I'm still going to have to pay for both loans. This exact same thing happened when I traded in my Apple Watch earlier this year, but it eventually got corrected. Tonight on the phone I was told to just wait, and call back on the 29th if I hadn't received anything, and they would start the timer over. Any help would be appreciated. I had earphones in and after I had gotten up, the music was still on. I didn't realize the phone was broken after I went back into my dorm. Basically the screen is black, no response, but I assume everything else is okay s since the music kept playing via blue tooth. I'm assuming I'll need a new screen, but wanted to ask here first. | Posted: 24 Nov 2021 07:03 AM PST Asking on behalf of my father, I have not seen it happen and I am not much experienced with the first setup process of a new phone. Phone bought brand new from the store, box is not tampered with etc. But during initial setup, the phone gives him the option to enter the iCloud password of an unknown individual. He says the phone allowed to "skip" entering of the password, and then he was able to login to iCloud and stuff using his own e-mail and password. The phone, packaging etc. shows absolutely no signs of being used before. Apple says "if you are not happy, we can replace it" without admitting to anything. The phone is out of stock where we live and he is planning to replace it when it is back in stock. My question is how can this be possible? IIKC refurbished / swap devices have their own separate serial numbers and are traceable. This phone is just brand new, bought from Apple Store physically. How can it "remember" the e-mail address of an unknown person? Any clues? [link] [comments] |

I have saved my passwords for Reddit, Gmail and other sites to be automatically written after I use my fingerprint. However, when my mom on her computer enters any of the sites I have saved my passwords for, she is offered to access my accounts by using her fingerprint too. We have different Apple IDs, but I am 'family-sharing' iCloud storage to her account. She is the 'organizer' and I am an 'adult' in iCloud settings. | Posted: 24 Nov 2021 03:56 PM PST I've noticed something weird happening to my battery, it happened a while ago, when i was getting the 20% and 10% notification more than once but that haven't really bothered me, until now, when my battery was at 1% and suddenly increased to 2% without charging it on any possible way. But that's not all, then i started using my phone and it decreased to 1% again, and once again, when locked it and opened it in a few minutes, the phone was at 2% again. I haven't been able to find something like this on google, is this something that someone is familiar with? I thought that it was just my battery lagging,as it's not on full capacity.
