Dear Apple: please release colorful magic mice and keyboards! Posted: 15 Nov 2021 10:38 PM PST I really, really want one of the colorful mice/keyboards that come with the colorful iMacs! Is Apple really keeping them exclusive just because? Do you think they'll ever be available? Would you buy them if they released them? Would you be mad as an iMac owner if anyone could get the colorful accessories and yours weren't so exclusive and special anymore? But what if you could mix the colors with your iMac… omg. So pretty. I really really want them. :') [link] [comments]

The New Hinge: An underreported feature of the new 2021 14’ & 16’ MacBook Pros Posted: 15 Nov 2021 12:47 PM PST Hi all, I upgraded from the 2019 Intel 16' MacBook Pro to the 2021 M1 Max 16' MacBook Pro. I have a lot of thoughts on the new machine, but noticed there was a lack of reporting on a nifty new hardware feature Apple has come up with for these new 2021 MacBook Pros; The hinge on the new MacBook Pro has been redesigned to accommodate clamshell mode better. In the old 2019 Intel MacBook Pros, the hinge would cover the rear exhaust vents completely when shut, forcing hot air to travel downwards. This setup caused accelerated overheating when in clamshell mode and on a flat surface like a table. This also meant that the hinge would cover the vents when the MacBook was open, ejecting the hot air back and away from the device while in use. I believe the old MacBook Pro's hinge was designed this way because the engineers felt that hot air should be blown as far away from users hands as possible, even if that meant reduced device performance (and ironically, a hotter device meant sweatier hands anyway). This hinge design has been completely overhauled in the 2021 MacBook Pros. In the new version, the rear exhaust vents are visible even when completely shut. This means hot air is ejected back and away from the device even when in clamshell and flat on a table. When the new 2021 MacBook Pro is opened, the clever new hinge rotates to expose the vents towards the top screen. This makes the vents visible when looking at the MacBook Pro from a top-down eagle-eye angle. This design should promote better cooling than the old "back and away" venting style because hot air tends to rise and a vertical venting solution is able to expel more heat than a horizontal cooling solution. However, this new hinge does significantly change the characteristics of the new 2021 MacBook Pros, specifically in the way it looks and feels. When picking up the 2021 MacBook Pros, the larger side vents along with the new rear hinge means 3/4 of the computers sides have sharp edges when picking it up or holding it. The hinge redesign also comes as a slight surprise as I have personally noticed Apple tries to keep my M1 Max MacBook Pro at 0 rpm fan speeds as much as possible, even when the device starts to get slightly warm. However, as many pros on this very subreddit have been clamouring for, I am excited to see revamped and buffed cooling systems for the new computers. Tl;dr - 2021 MacBook Pros have a new redesigned hinge system compared to the 2019 Intel models which seem to promote better cooling. [link] [comments]

What do you think Apple will call the M1 chips in the upcoming iMac Pro and Mac Pro? Posted: 15 Nov 2021 06:37 PM PST Once upon a time, I posted here asking what Apple would call their Mac chips shortly before they announced the M1. Props to /u/eggimage for accurately guessing the name prior to the announcement. We now have the M1 Pro and M1 Max for the Macbook Pro. The remaining platforms are the iMac Pro and Mac Pro. So, what do you think the suffix will be for the chips in the iMac Pro and Mac Pro? M1 Ultimate? M1 Pro Max? M1 XL Pro Max XDR Retina+ with Touchbar? [link] [comments]

Same day delivery from apple store problems Posted: 15 Nov 2021 03:36 PM PST I'm really annoyed right now. This morning my old phone died. So after a few option checking I decided that the fastest way to get a new phone would be to order an iphone, with same day delivery from the local Apple store. At the time of given delivery, with me sitting on my couch watching the door, I received a notification (my sim in my wife phone) saying that it was delivered. - no one ever showed up - Call to apple, shipment inquiry, told to wait and they would ship me a new one. Few hours later, I received a mail saying I would be getting my phone.... in 7 days... Call back, they tell me the only way to be faster is to cancel the order, with a refund coming my way in a few days, and order a new phone. Okay, I Need a phone. Buy a new phone online, same day delivery. The lady from Uber eats they used show up on time, and try to give me 2 juices and a muffin in a bag! Argh. Call back apple. Back and forth on the call. Get refund... in a few days. Still no phone. I'll wait for the refund and go in-store. But what is that crappy service? How many people go through this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Nov 2021 08:53 AM PST I've been burned by Google Authenticator and would like to switch. Not crazy about how Apple's built-in solution is buried in Settings though. [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Nov 2021 08:18 AM PST Sure, just bringing back physical keys was a sign to most that they're serious, but I think them being full-size has been an under-appreciated upgrade when watching reviews on the new MacBook Pros. I write a lot of code and use Vim, so the big escape key has been huge for me. [link] [comments] |
