Preview in Monterey No Longer Allows PDFs to Export As PDF

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 12:16 AM PST

This was probably my number one use case for Preview.

Get a PDF file > Make some edits > Export As PDF and those edits would now be "baked in" and no one could change them. This was even a useful way to get out of locked PDFs (those locked by accident or on purpose).

Now the option's just greyed out. You can still Export… or CMD + P > Save As PDF but the changes aren't "baked in". If I send the file to someone, they can edit/remove my changes.

Ruined all my workflows. Why Apple… 😔

Is there somewhere that collates all the hidden features of MacOS?

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 06:26 AM PST

I'm still discovering new features that would have been useful down the years if I had known about them. But the issue is I never knew to find out about those features. Is there a site that would collate all the useful features that aren't immediately obvious?

How to export the videos from iPhone 13 Pro with auto brightness effect?

How to export the videos from iPhone 13 Pro with auto brightness effect?

When I drag any video from the Photos app to the Desktop on my iMac it looks worse (without auto brightness affect) then I see it in Photos app.

The first screenshot shows how the videos look in the Photos app, and the second shows how they look after I export them to the Desktop.

I tried File - Export in Photos app and did it with the mouse, but the exported video doesn't have the auto brightness effect.

    Exported to the Desktop:

M1 Air vs 2021 MBP Base

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 12:55 AM PST

I'm student who does extensive web development ( react, Django, nodejs…) and some mobile development. Also, from time to time, I make videos using premiere as a second hobby. Thankfully I have enough money to buy either one but if the Air (16 go of ram) would serve me right, I had rather spend the rest of the money in accessories and other stuff. What drives me toward the 14 base version is the display size and quality and the added gpu cores, but not sure whether it's extra cost. Also, as I'm entering college soon in engineering school hopefully, I want this laptop to last at least for 2-3 years. Can you help me for which one is the best ?

    Monterey: Tap to click broken

    Posted: 15 Nov 2021 09:24 PM PST

Monterey seems to have broken tap to click using the trackpad. Many people set up their trackpads so that on their laptops they don't actually have to click the trackpad, but rather just tap it like an iPhone. Personally, this seems like the most modern way to use a computer, and I'm surprised more people don't do it. I'm even more surprised that Apple doesn't make it a default. The fact that it isn't a default setting is probably why more people haven't noticed this bug.

As of right now, there are tons of instances all over the OS when tapping on something doesn't register at all. Tapping again does nothing. Only with a third tap does the OS recognize that something has happened. I thought this was a hardware issue, but I'm pretty sure it isn't.

Happens especially with Command + Click or Shift + Click. Repeatable every time.

Also note, I did a totally new install.

Edit: seems like tons of people are experiencing this issue. How in the world did this make it to production?

Why buying a 4K monitor if MAC wont display 4K?!

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 06:04 AM PST

Guys I am truly illiterate when it comes to technology. I need your help in this.

    I have Macbook pro 2020. I just purchased LG 27ul550 4K monitor.

I am using the HDMI cable the comes with the monitor.

Honestly, I am disappointed! the display is not as crisp and sharp as I expected! Although mac recognize the monitor and gives me the option to choose 4K (3840x2160)

I though because my mac runs the monitor at default settings (1080p), but when I change the display resolution to the maximum, text gets very tiny and changes in resolution are barely noticeable!

I tried watching 4K videos in YouTube, it looked amazing. but everything else like browsing, finder, documents were similar to the Mac if not even less.

my question is why? am i supposed to see 4k all the time? or does 4k work in high-resolution media only? I is it a monitor issue or Mac issue?

How can i now if my monitor is actually displaying 4K and not for instance 2K? Why paying more money if I am not able to display 4k?

    Please help

    Organise Launchpad

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 04:16 AM PST

Is there any app or way to select multiple apps and put them in folders on Launchpad ? It is very annoying and time consuming to select 1 by 1, hold and find the page and drop 1 app when I have at least 150 apps installed.

    Divvy Alternatives on Apple Silicon?

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 03:59 AM PST

Has anyone found an updated or alternative option to Divvy? Divvy is a menu bar application that when you are on a particular application, you can click on the menu bar button and a small grid is displayed, you can then select the part of the grid you want the application to fit into. This is very helpful when I want to have iMessage, Signal and Teams all displayed on the same mission control desktop. It is very fast to do this and macOS typically remembers the placement.

I really enjoy using all screen real estate and have anywhere from 3-6 active desktops at a time (messaging, oulook, jira, salesforce)

Here is a link to Divvy that hasn't been updated in years. Again, just looking for a simple app in the menu bar to achieve this. I have tried 3-5 other apps like it, but they are way overboard or want templates created.

    https://mizage.com/divvy/

    thanks for any recommenations.

Creating a desktop icon, that then runs a terminal script?

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 03:36 AM PST

I'm very new to using the terminal, but basically I have an app where I have to use the terminal to change the directory, then drag a "Unix Executable File" into the terminal and press enter to run it.

I'm trying to automate this process, so that the CD command runs and then runs the file, just from a desktop icon.

Is this possible? I'd assume it is, but again, I'm very to this sort of stuff, so baby steps would be great.

Downgrade to Big Sur(Windows installed using bootcamp)

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 03:18 AM PST

Is there a way to downgrade to Big Sur without losing all the data ? For some reason, loading windows is making my mac restart. I suspect the reason is the update to Monterey because sometimes it restarts before even logging me in.

User Picture & Apple ID Picture Sync

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 01:15 AM PST

    Howdy all,

Forgive me if this has been answered (I found one post about it, but no solution!).

Does anyone know whether the Apple ID photo can be different to the User Login Picture? It certainly used to be the case, but now seems that whenever the User Picture photo changes, it changes the Apple ID—ouch! I have two separate accounts (one for work and personal, but they're signed into the same Apple ID), and now they have the same User Picture, rather than separate ones.

Does anyone have a work around/solution? Hopefully I've explained that well enough, and thank you!
