    Apple TV 4K Video Qualtity

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 05:42 PM PDT

    Hi

I am noticing lately while streaming content, via my Apple Library or Netflix, that the color black often flickers. A nighttime scene often has the dark sky flickering. It's is becoming quite distracting. I am using a HDMI 2.1 cable w Apple TV 4K with the latest iOS. Tried doing the color balance with my iPhone and that didn't help. Not sure if I have an incorrect setting. Anyone know how to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance.

Is Apple One worth it in y'all opinion?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 08:41 AM PDT

    I have iPhone 8 MacBookair M1 2020 Airpods

I was planning on getting Apple TV to replace my Xbox since it broke. Also my Apple Music ran out & my student discount isn't working anymore.

Should I just save my money or is the content worth the subscription price

    Enabling eARC on LG TV

    Posted: 09 Oct 2021 03:50 AM PDT

Hi everyone, I recently got a PS5 and thought it would be fun to hook it up via eARC to my HomePods. I'd never thought of doing this for all my TV output before and thought it would be simple.

I've got the latest 4K ATV box, connected to my tv with a new hdmi 2.1 compatible cable. The ATV is connected to the eARC hdmi port on my tv. The sound output on the tv is set to 'HDMI ARC' and it's enabled in every setting on the tv i can see. My ATV is hooked up to my HomePods, set as the default output for them.

But on the ATV interface, under audio output, I never get the Audio Return Channel (Beta) option to show up. Am I missing something obvious?

The tv is an LG model number 55NANO866NA. It's got the latest LG software updates. Has anyone got it working with an LG TV who can offer some advice?

    Netflix’s UX Sucks!

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 09:58 AM PDT

You know what really grinds my gears?!?!

Whoever decided the < button should select "Home" instead of going back to the very top of the screen (which SHOULD be "Continue Watching" or at least "My List") should be fired! Are they using unpaid interns to design this app? My advice: Quit changing the shit that worked perfectly fine because you saw a Ted Talk or went to some bullshit conference.

And the fact that the top row is almost ALWAYS something different is equally aggravating. WTH are these "designers" thinking?

The top rows should ALWAYS be:

    • CONTINUE WATCHING
    • MY LIST

Then they can put whatever dynamic revolving crap they want after those first two.

Sorry for the rant. I just hate bad UX! And although it's nearly 2022, it seems to be rampant! Don't even get me started on Peacock! 😡😡😡

    SERENITY NOW!!!!!

How to rent in 4k on Apple TV app if movie is available in HD for free?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 08:12 PM PDT

I use the Apple TV app on my LG smart tv (C1). It's been great but I'm running into an issue where if a movie is available for free via some other service I get through Apple TV app (Paramount+, EPIX in my case) I can't seem to be able to watch the movie higher than standard HD. I am certain I had the option at my parents to rent Mad Max (1979) in 4k last night, using their Apple TV 4k. Tonight I am at my place using the app on my smart TV and it'll only let me watch it in HD because it's free on Paramount+ and EPIX. I have the option to Rent it for $3.99 but there is no way for me to see what format this rental will be.

Is it simply an issue of me using the app instead of the actual Apple TV 4k? Please note my TV is an LG C1 and I have fiber internet and haven't had any issue renting 4k content through the Apple TV app in the past. It only seems (to me) to be an issue because the Apple TV app happens to have it available to me for free at the moment.

No Dolby Atmos on Disney+ content

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 11:08 AM PDT

I just wanted to watch Black Widow on my Apple TV 4K with AirPods Pro and noticed that I do not get Dolby Atmos with the English soundtrack even though the audio info of the movie clearly states it as Dolby Atmos. On the Apple TV App I never had this problem. Has anyone else experienced this issue with content from Disney+?

Is the apple tv 4k 2021 faster than apple tv 4k 2017

    Posted: 09 Oct 2021 12:20 AM PDT

Hi, I have apple tv 4k 2017 64gb version.I just want to know if anyone of you having both 2017 and 2021 version and if there is any performance difference between the two like opening and closing apps, UI navigation, video reload times while skipping forward in youtube. I am only concerned with streaming apps and not with games. What i noticed on my 2017 apple tv 4k is that, even though the video has loaded to 40 seconds in buffer health in youtube, when i skips to 10 seconds, it (2017 version) buffers slightly (approx 500ms to 1 sec ) especially 2160p videos.

    Prime streaming quality

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 04:50 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

So Amazon prime takes a good 10 minutes to have a clear stream which is quite annoying. Every time I start a new program/episode etc. it starts off as vcr quality.

It's not my bandwidth, there's no drama with it. I just finished watching an Apple TV show at 4K with no quality loss or buffering needed.

What I have read is that Amazon has this automatic streaming ability that takes ages to kick in and it's possible to turn that off or just put it on full quality off the bat.

All I can find are work arounds for the fire stick or web browser but, not Apple TV.

Does anyone have a work around for this? I'm going nuts having to wait 1/3 of a show to have clear quality 😭

    Thanks for any help!

Edit: it's the 4K Apple TV if that's any help!

Twitch on AppleTV 4k is not 60fps, anyone else experiencing the same?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 08:44 AM PDT

It's not laggy or anything (for the most part), but the streams do not feel like it's 60 fps even though it's on 1080p@60 source setting. Ruins the viewing experience especially for fast-paced games like DotA2.

The same stream on the Youtube app is a lot smoother, but most Twitch streamers are not there.

Is this the normal Twitch experience on the AppleTV app or any way I can fix this? Doubt it has anything to do with the internet as it's working fine on every other device I have.

What is your audio set up like?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 12:15 PM PDT

I have a lg soundbar from 2017, but also interested in the newly released Sony htA9.

I think Apple should expand on the home theatre audio division. They are doing so good just with the AirPods Pro and max with spacial audio.

Since there is no Apple products in this area, curious on every one else's current audio set up.

    Apple TV 3 — Last days ?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 02:43 PM PDT

Anybody still using these ? I have many of them that I still use in bedrooms, traveling etc … I've slowly started replacing them with newer ones.

Basically I dont think I have any remotes left for them as I always just used universal remotes and my iPhone…

Here is my issue, as of IOS 15 with the remote app integrated into control center, the app either doesn't connect to the Apple TV3 or it's asking me to re pair. I can't repair since I don't have a remote and as of recently the universal remote make the Apple TV3 blink but doesn't move the cursor any more. I've plugged in like three of them and all the same behavior.

Anyone still using these ? Or are they on their last days ?

    Thanks !

AppleTV+ through PC Edge Browser - Stutter/Dropped Frames

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 10:48 AM PDT

I am seeing a lot of people having problems with Play back stutters or buffering/dropped frames on IOS 15.

I'd like to report that watching it on PC through Edge browser, (as this is the only way on PC as there is no Windows 10 APP). I get Dropped frames constantly, 1080p, so bandwidth is not the problem here.

But I do see comments from people saying its the AUTO adjust quality with in the App on IOS or the Apple TV unit. There is no such settings, in fact, there are no settings within the browser version for Apple TV. It is very limited Subtitles and Audio Language. that's it.

The auto adjust thing does make sense, if the stutter is coming from when the auto adjust decides to set its self. But why would it do it so often. Once it knows you can stream a certain bitrate, it shouldn't need to re-configure its self. Has apple set a TOO aggressive Algorithm? or do they just want to try and force us all to buy an Apple TV Box.. not sure, but the lack of Dolby ATMOS, which Edge Chromium supports, Netflix has it.

Apple TV (4th Gen) and Airplay 1

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 04:58 AM PDT

    Hi guys,

I have been air playing the sound from my Apple TV 4th Gen to a Yamaha receiver since years now. The receiver only supports Airplay 1. But I have recently started major issues with sound. When airplaying the sound, the video looks choppy and the sound gets progressively more out of sync.

Has anyone experienced this? Is it a known issue? Is there a fix?

    The UI is Infuriating

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 11:44 AM PDT

Watching Apple TV on my MacBook is peak frustration. The UI makes no sense - it's confusing, search sucks, categories aren't clear - and what is up with the double windows? You select your show and then it opens up in a new, smaller window? The sound is hit or miss - volume is all the way up and I can barely hear anything. Whyyyyyy
