Can I force 60Hz on external display Posted: 08 Oct 2021 12:01 PM PDT Hello, I have an Intel MacBook pro connected to a Thunderbolt 4 docking station. I have two 4k monitors connected via Display Port. My issue is that the refresh rate on one of the monitors will max out at 30 Hz. If I reboot, both will work at 60 Hz. After a little bit, with the mac going to sleep, one of the two monitors will revert to 30 Hz and cannot be set back to 60 Hz. It is random which of the monitors will revert to 30 Hz. When I connect my Windows laptop to it, I don't have the same issue. Wondering if there is anyway to force 60Hz since it has issues recognizing it. I have tried Switchresx but hasn't helped since the Mac must be detecting that it is not possible. However I know it is, as all that is needed is a reboot. It would seem that the hardware is not an issue since it works after a reboot and works with my Dell Windows laptop. Equipment used Macbook Pro 16 Intel Razer Thunderbolt 4 dock Two Dell 32 inch 4k monitors Usb c to Display port adapters Any ideas? [link] [comments]

Need guidance on how to install newer OS on my En Capitan Macbook Air Posted: 08 Oct 2021 10:35 PM PDT Hello! I have a Macbook Air from early 2015. I still have El Capitan running on it, due to an issue I once had when trying to download, at the time High Sierra. Now I need newer versions to download a few games and programs. I tried this last year, but when I tried to download older OS versions from the App store, I only got a small file instead of the real file. Is it too late to do this? Or is it a way? Unable to import or play MP3's via iTunes Posted: 08 Oct 2021 05:10 PM PDT Evening. I have recently ran into an issue where I'm unable to neither import or play any MP3's via iTunes (Music app on Big Sur) on both my mid-10's MBP (running recently reinstalled High Sierra 10.13.6, iTunes version 12.8.3.1) and late-12 Mac Mini (OC-Patched Big Sur 11.6, Music version 1.1.6.37). My intentions were to import a few playlists onto my old iPhone 6+ (which I have just tried resetting, version iOS 12.5.5), as I currently can't let myself to continue pay for my Spotify subcription. The MP3 files play just fine via VLC app on MacOS, and my sister's Windows 10 laptop. I have not yet tried importing my files to iPhone via Windows PC, and I'd like to avoid that option. I'll be including the video, to show exactly what's happening. Hopefully someone will be able to help me figure all this out. [link] [comments]

Wipr Adblocker is blocking Safari YouTube ads once again, with no Privacy violation Posted: 09 Oct 2021 02:01 AM PDT Now you can enable Wipr extra section in Safari settings. It says the extension is able to read all website data. Once you enable this specific extension only for YouTube you can safely browse internet without privacy concerns. [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Oct 2021 09:57 PM PDT So I have an old IMac version OS X 10.11.6. I got it from my niece because she wipe it clean (complete restore) but didn't back it up 🤦♂️. The iMac has no operating system on it. So I've been at this for weeks now. Trying everything from creating a bootable usb, which I can't get the iMac to boot from the usb, to unpacking the dmg file in the terminal, to using a Linux os to use dmg2img and creating a bootable usb but then again I can't get the iMac to boot from the usb. to using the online help through the disk utility (which it's so old I can't update safari) !!!! To calling apple (there no damn help at all. ) Everything I've tried don't work. When I got to reinstall the OS in disk utility, it connects to the apple store to download the file from there. But I don't have a OS in my apple for it to download from. What do I do. How do I get a compatible os in my apple store or boot from a usb. Or anything. Help please lol. [link] [comments]

My Mac's battery drains unusually fast Posted: 09 Oct 2021 12:45 AM PDT I just lost 10% in 30 mins just by watching YouTube on safari (1080p 60fps), it was the only tab open and safari was the only app open. I updated safari to the latest version and my Mac has been overheating a lot and draining the battery. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]
Macbook Pro with Big Sur, can you connect to wifi before being able to login?? Posted: 08 Oct 2021 04:11 PM PDT Hi, I tried Googling but didn't find any recent hits and regarding Big Sur so hoping I can get suggestions cause I have a user that we gave a Macbook pro home for first time and can't login to desktop but he can't connect to his home wifi without logging in. Combining MacBook Pro Speakers + External 2.1's = WOW Posted: 08 Oct 2021 03:04 PM PDT Ok so my twin brother just texted me "Do you combine your speakers" and I was like, WTF are you talking about? and he began to explain how to create a multi-output device so I can use both my external and internal speakers at the same time. So I combined them and i feel like I just added a sound bar to my desk. The sound is much fuller now. I am seeing some drawbacks though, like you can't adjust the volume with the buttons or slider, you have to adjust it through the app that's playing the audio or just adjust the external speakers using its controller. If you're an audio person and have a 2.1 setup I would give this a shot and see what you think. It's fairly easy to do;
If you're curious, I'm using Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers + a 2020 13" MacBook Pro EDIT: adding name of speakers and computer model. [link] [comments]

Posted: 08 Oct 2021 08:00 AM PDT So my mid 2012 Macbook Pro Retina started dying today, therefore I made the jump to the M1. Currently waiting for Time Capsule to finish its thing (440k files transferred so far), so it got me thinking and I have the following questions for you guys:

Pages - Reverse Indent Command? Posted: 08 Oct 2021 03:35 PM PDT Currently using pages to write notes and had a question about the existence of a reverse indent command. When making bullet points, I can hit 'tab' to create an indented bullet point but I can't then reverse it back to normal on the next line. Is it possible to have a command for this?a [link] [comments]
How does dmg file checksum works in macOS? Posted: 08 Oct 2021 02:52 PM PDT I read that macOS forces every .dmg to be different although they are the same. Like I have a .dmg file and I do a copy of it, it wont be the exact copy of it, it wont have the same bits. I wonder how does this affect the moment when you are doing a checksum of the file? How do you manage to compare between hashes if the bit are always changing? And most important how do you generate the first hash to provide alongside your product? I apology if I didn't understand how it work and just asked a lot of nonsense. Thanks [link] [comments]

inability to log back in after manually locking computer Posted: 08 Oct 2021 01:51 PM PDT very weird. i've posted once before about this. i manually lock my screen, and when ready to go back to work, my password does NOT get accepted. i've double checked and made sure of the correct password. when mobile, my apple watch will unlock it. my touch-id will unlock it. but never, using any keyboard including the built in, will my password let me back in, it wobbles every single time. does anyone else have this situation? any answers? m1 mba, big sur 11.6. can't be numlock, that's mostly for pc keyboards, while apple does not have numlock of any sort on apple keyboards. it's the same, using the normal numbers, or the number pad on extended apple keyboard. Posted: 08 Oct 2021 05:28 AM PDT I've had a quick look (admittedly very quick) and couldn't see an existing post / solution to this so I thought I'd ask. I'm on a Big Sur M1 MBA and having issues with how folders open. On my Intel Big Sur MBP everything works as I want to which is: CMD+Click a folder opens it in a new tab, CMD+N opens a new window separate to the existing window. On the MBA I've changed the setting in Finder Preferences but if I check or uncheck the box I either get everything in a new tab, or everything in a new window. Is there a setting hiding elsewhere that I'm missing? Any terminal code which will restore this to how my MBP works? [link] [comments]
Montreal [CAN] - Security problems with my internet? Posted: 08 Oct 2021 06:35 AM PDT It's been about a week and a half since I've been repeatedly getting this message for most links I am clicking through google searches: Your connection is not privateAttackers might be trying to steal your information from www.(insertwebsitehere).com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Learn more NET::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID I don't know what has changed? I am repeatedly getting this alert for nearly any website I try to access aside from things like gmail, Instagram or facebook, and don't know if I somehow added a new chrome plugin or if I have malware? At first I thought it seemed normal, but for almost 2 weeks now anything I google gives me this message and I have to bypass it to access the webpage. Is there somebody on my network? Does anybody know? Sorry if this isn't the place for this, I'm just not sure where to post. Thank you [link] [comments]
