| Rant - why are Apple devices so "dumb" as to on-device or between-device troubleshooting? Posted: 02 Oct 2021 07:35 AM PDT My question is: with all of the CPU cores, Neural engines, Bionic chips, "Superintelligent software" ( from the landing page of the iPhone 13), and all of the other buzzwords used by Apple to make it sound like everything just works, why, when things DON'T work together, is the user forced to try to figure out the problem? I think that, by now, with all of these capabilities, I should just be able say: "Hey Siri, figure out why I can't get my iPhone to connect to my Apple Watch" for example, and Siri can look at my devices and tell me the answer to the problem (And no "I found this webpage with possible solutions, I'll send it to your iPhone" is NOT the answer). After all, once I've registered different Apple devices onto my Apple account, Apple knows everything about those individual pieces of hardware (Serial #'s, IMEA #'s, current software version, stored Wifi names) etc., so why can't my devices figure out the problem, whatever the problem is that I describe, and then offer device-specific suggestions, or just fix the problem? Why can't some of that iCloud-stored data about how and where I use my Apple devices be used as input to figure out the answer to problems with my existing devices/software? I mean, look through all of the sub-reddits that are Apple-related (IOS, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Homepod, etc), and many of the posts that are problems can be summarized by: "Why can't X connect to Y" or "why, after an upgrade can't I do X, when I used to be able to?". So, a lot of people are asking for help on getting their Apple devices and software to do what they want, (granted not all of those questions have an answer), so why can't Apple use a portion of the capabilities of current devices to make them "self-aware" enough to self-diagnose connectivity issues or respond to natural-language queries from the user with device-specific answers about why, for example, IOS 15 doesn't allow you to do what you could do with IOS 14? I realize I could post this same question to any hardware or software platform, but I'm posting here because Apple, more so that others, controls the hardware and software, so if any vendor can do this, it would be Apple. Posted: 02 Oct 2021 05:14 AM PDT As the title says, I know it's possible if I'm using the same browser on my phone and my pc, but for whatever reason I got used to chrome on PC and safari on iphone. Is there a way to do this with just pressing one button? Right now I'm doing it by sending myself the links through messenger, but it's not convenient. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. My app randomly crashes, doesn't let me type an sometimes i have to do a full reboot. Some apps are sketchy too like youtube not letting me press on a video sometimes and instagram not letting stories audio trough my airpods if i'm in silent mode. Does anyone have a solution? | Photo handling by Documents by Readdle Posted: 02 Oct 2021 01:38 AM PDT I tried 2 ways of getting photos from the iPhone camera roll through Documents by Readdle and they gave me different file sizes and image artefacts: 1) Directly downloading from Photos folder by navigating in Documents 2) Importing photos into Documents first, then download those photos Both methods gave images with the same pixel dimension, but method 2 had larger file sizes and less compression artefacts. Posted: 02 Oct 2021 06:52 AM PDT In previous iOS versions, Apple was allowing users choose if they want to keep their cellular plan (eSIM) when erasing iPhone, but in iOS 15 Apple removed the option to keep cellular plan and now shows a message stating that cellular plan will be removed from device. I've already talk to Apple support team and they don't know if eSIM will be removed or not, saying it depends your carrier. These informations are so confusing. | There is a hidden QR Code scanner in iOS 15 Posted: 02 Oct 2021 06:05 AM PDT If you're not happy with the way the default camera app scans QR codes there is an alternative. If you do a spotlight search for "scanner" you should see a code scanner app. https://i.imgur.com/8Ujnds8.jpg IMO this presents a much better scanning experience for QR codes. | How to add applications to Driving Focus mode Posted: 01 Oct 2021 11:02 PM PDT I have a tyre pressure sensor and it's associated application on the phone. It's very important that any notifications from that applications are displayed when I am driving. However in the Driving Focus mode I can add people but not applications. I can create a custom focus mode and activate it manually but I would like for it to automatically get activated when the phone connects to car Bluetooth. Is there a work around for this situation. | How is Live Text handling your language? (Multi-lingual Live Text) Posted: 01 Oct 2021 05:39 PM PDT I was excited to use this feature for Japanese. I receive a lot of things on paper, rather than digital, and have to scan them if I want to store the information. But using it, it tried to turn all Japanese into Chinese. Even Katakana, which is script only for Japanese, it tried to find the closes Chinese approximation and uses that. I don't have Chinese as a system language, don't speak it, never use it, but I do have Japanese set as a keyboard and language on my phone. Is anyone else having issues with your non English language and Live Text? [link] [comments]  |
