    iOS 15 Apple Maps vs Google Maps

    For a while now I've been using Apple's Maps app for a couple main reasons:

    1. Music I'm listening to in the car is not interrupted during voice over (Google will stop music whereas Apple will turn volume down)

    2. For some unknown reason if I am on a longer trip (6h or so), Apple Maps will show a much shorter travel time (half an hour or so). I have not tested this out by using both at the same time to see which was more accurate at the beginning of the journey.

    Otherwise I feel the two are so similar in everything else. I used to hate Apple Maps for their wildly erratic route finding, but they seem to have sorted themselves out now.

    I keep Google maps on my phone because I have saved destinations and POIs. I wonder if they can be transferred over?

    Which mapping app do you use and why?

    iOS15 on iPhone SE 2nd gen - thoughts?

    G'Day folks,Yesterday I bought an iPhone SE 2nd gen (128GB).It came preloaded with iOS 14.7.1 and I really really love it so far.

    My question is this, I used to have an iPhone 6 (the last iPhone I owned) and when I updated its software, it slowed right down, the battery turned to crap, and each successive update made the phone unusable.

    So should I update this SE to iOS15? Can I expect slowdowns and battery drain?

    Let’s find the truth behind battery drainage after OS upgrades

    Every time there is a major or minor version release there are loads of people complaining about battery drainage. Me, being a +10 year old experienced IT engineer, I always took it as non technical people having a false sense of performance downgrade since they actually don't know what updates/upgrades imply. It also happens to windows users complaining their computer became slower after an update. Very common

    There is another scenario for people using old iPhones with new iOS that has been fine tuned for newer and more robust devices, that could actually explain

    BUT

    I own an iPhone 12 Pro Max and after upgrading to iOS 15 I can confirm same usage (mostly FaceTime and email) drains the battery much quicker.

    I would like people with a strong IT background, developers and HW engineers that might read this post to share their thoughts on why would this happen.I will also investigate and share any findings here

    I absolutely hate this feature, constantly swiping to it accidentally and completely useless unless you have 15 pages of apps.

    iOS 15 seems like such an unpolished release. I've been with iOS on and off since 2012 with iOS 6 and I've not used it for a couple of years. When I did, I always found it to be pretty stable. I've jumped to iOS in March this year with iOS 14 and found that to be pretty stable too. Now with widgets not displaying data, to crashes, to my iPhone XR slowing to a crawl after the update, I'm really not too pleased with this release. Is this unique to iOS 15 or has iOS just been declining in quality over the past few years?

    Dual Sim: Call contacts from spotlight search doesn't use Default Voice Linr

    Hi,

    I am using an iPhone with Dual Sim (1 physical "Business" card and 1 eSIM "private")

    In settings I selected the privat SIM as Default Voice Line.

    When I search for a contact in Spotlight and call the contact the phone always uses my Business contact and not the Default Voice Line.

    Does anyone know why this is happen.

    P.s.: I know that I can set the line for each contact individual. But I would like the global option to work.

    iCloud Custom Domain Third Party Apps

    Has there been any problems with the recently played screen in the Notification Center for you in the full version of iOS 15?

    I sure as hell do and I'm probably the only one to talk about it. I don't have my 12 Pro updated to the latest update, in case the bug is there and I have my XR updated.

    A change with the recently played screen is when playing a YouTube video in the YouTube app, which the interface is different rather than it showing your recently played music, which I find rather unnecessary but not as bad as the bug, which I'll give you a hint on how you can see the bug.

    First is connect (or reconnect if you're using) your AirPods and your recently played music should pop up.

    Then be in the middle of leaving the Notification Center (or in the middle of going into the camera or going into the spotlight search) and go back into the NC and that's where the bug will happen, you should also position your albums to a specific spot and redo the tactic when in the middle of something and that's where you're albums will re-position into another spot.

    Some people commented on a post or two similar to this and someone told me not to update to iOS 15 (also 14.7, which I first saw this bug and that's also where I should never update past 14.6, which I have my 12 Pro in) and am I still the only person seeing this problem and never wanting to update to any future iOS update ever?

    I'm pretty sure y'all will not understand all of this but at least one or two people will probably do.

    Contact photos in iMessage not showing with Zoomed Display enabled?

    I cannot attach a screen shot due to sensitive data in messages. But, I wanted to utilize zoomed display on my iPhone 12 Mini. However, I realized that it removes contact photos from iMessage. Is there any way to correct this or is it simply a feature of Zoomed Display? I tried making the text smaller to see if the contact photos would reappear, but it did nothing.

    I was hoping maybe someone else who is familiar with or utilizes accessibility settings could assist me with troubleshooting or let me know if this is just simply a sacrifice of zoomed display?

    How can we prevent duplicate 2FA prompt?

    Every time I'm being requested to authenticate I receive a notification on all my Apple devices, it's annoying.

    • Is there a way to change this and only receive notifications on my iPhone?

    • If it's not possible, is there a way to at least disable the sound notification for the other devices?

    IOS/ Windows ITunes not updating

    (IPHONE XR) (IOS15) as the above text says, in short, when I add a year, track number excetera to a song on my iPhone when it is connected to my windows pc it doesn't update it on my phone even though my pc thinks it has. I am using the default iPhone charger wire .

    Do you go back to the app main screen before leaving it?

    I have this strange habbit. I don't like that when I open an app, it's in a state when I need to backtrack to the main screen before debuting what I'm suppose to do.

    Previously I killed directly an app with a swipe up in multitasking switcher when done with it, but since newer iOS version, apps tends to preserve its state even if killed. So I'm backtracking to the main screen, then leave it. The next time I will use this app, it is on the main screen already.

    Am I the only idiot which do that? Do you just leave your apps as soon as finished your task in it? Are you bother when you launch again this app for a new task and need to go to the main screen before really debuting this new task?

    In macOS, there is an option to preserve state of an app between launch, but not in iOS…

    Sketchy App

    Hi guys,

    So, yesterday I downloaded an App from the App Store called "Reports+" (DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT!) that basically let's you see who doesn't follow you back on instagram. I started downloading it while reading the reviews - it was bad. In the review section, people were calling it a scheme, and saying that they lost their account because of this app, and that their instagram account got hacked, etc.

    In panic, I stopped the download, thinking that, since it didn't proper install, it wouldn't do anything.

    20 minutes later I was watching stories in my instagram when my account disconnected. Instagram said that they detected some unusual activity in my account and I couldn't login, because every time I tried to login, I would be immediately disconnected.

    Luckily, I ended up changing my instagram password and it never happened again, but I'm scared that maybe I got a virus on my phone because of this app.

    I activated two-step security by SMS on every account I own and changed my ID apple password too.

    Is there anything I can do to certificate that my phone isn't hacked/got a virus?

    Is factory reset necessary? I really don't want to but if it is the only option left...

    Iphone XR Ios 15 Apple Music battery drain

    I have just switched to Apple Music from Spotify, really liking it, my only issue is that my battery is draining brutally, I am spekaing like half the battery life i get, and also while not using overnight for 8 hours, it drained from 58% to 8%.

    Anyone have any idea what can cause this? It is super frustrating to have this bad battery life. Also my battery health is on 98% so it does not justify this.

    A subtle bug in Mail/Accounts that has persisted for years including 15.0.1?

    Hi folks, my (mail) Exchange provider forces me to change my password every 6 months. I have a few iOS devices on a couple of iCloud accounts and how I change the password in iOS varies, sometimes I change it immediately in settings, otherwise I might respond to the iOS prompt "please enter a password for account xxx" after hours or days. I also know my Exchange server has the occasional downtime, for maintenance or whatever, where it rejects logins, I think one summer it was a whole 3 days, might also have been a hacker attack, but what I do not know is if it also has "micro-outages". Whatever the case might be, I have by now changed my password on my devices perhaps 10 times if not more, since some 14.x version to 15.0.1 , and my iPad again asks me for the password. And this reminded me that I had a bit of this, perhaps with 1 or 2 fewer devices, last year too, until it went away, I have no idea what triggered my devices to finally save the password and not doubt it again! May the boffins get to the bottom of this one day!

    Palm rejection on 13 pro?

    Just got a 13 pro today from a 12 pro. Searched far and wide and can't find any similar posts.

    I can't be the only person with palm rejection issues on the left hand side? Noticeably when typing on the keyboard, it keeps switching to the number keyboard and back.

    Definitely a palm rejection issue because if I remove my hand from the left side of the phone, it doesn't happen.

    Anyone? Not sure if this is iOS or hardware.
