    How to have programs open with no active window?

    Apple OS 11.6; iMac M1

    Under X, if I quit GraphicConverter or Preview or whatever with files open, when I re-opened the programs, they would start in the state I requested: usually no window open, just the application active.

    Now if I quit with files open, they all reopen when I restart the program. I recall applications having a preference on how the started up, but I can't seem to find that now.

    How can I quit a program with open files and have it reopen with no windows or files?

    Apple Watch Series 6 - BAD ESN purchasing question

    Hello,

    I am currently browsing on Ebay for cheapish Apple Watches, and came across an Apple Watch Series 6 that is listed as iCloud unlocked, but then it says

    "BAD ESN, CAN NOT BE ACTIVATED THROUGH THE NETWORK."

    I was wondering if the watch would still be useable with my phone, just unable to have the cellular option (as if it were a gps only version).

    From my understanding, the cellular part is only important if you want to use the watch separate from your phone.

    What's the best solution for multiple displays on a new MacBook?

    I use a 2018 15" i7 MacBook Pro hooked up to two external displays, using DVI to USB-C cables. It works great, and I love the set up. My partner wants to buy a new MacBook so she can have a similar setup at her desk. However, I hear the M1 MacBooks don't support multiple displays.

    What's the best solution these days for a multiple display setup with a MacBook? Use an old MacBook? A new intel Mac?

    Im not able to delete doc and unable to tap on it. Anybody know how can I delete the doc? The color of the doc is a light shade and not highlighted like other docs normally are. Thank you

    Hi everyone, I had writen the beginning chapter of a story on iPhone notes (iPhone 6s, iOS 14.4.2). Since I wanted to continue on my Mac (Macbook Air 13' 2017 256GB) I opened the note on iPhone and clicked the small notification on the dock to open it on Mac. Oddly it opened the previous note and when I checked the phone the note had totally disappeared. It's nowhere to be found. What can I do? Thanks in advance

    Location Sharing Question

    So I have my location shared using Find My with some other people. I want my location to not be shared with these other people, but I don't want them to be aware of that. I know I can set up a proxy device to do so but it would be too complex and not the solution I'm looking for. I am also aware that I can turn off my location in the Find My app. This is a good option although it is then apparent that I am not sharing my location as it say Location Unavailable. The only other option I could think of is if I have Send Last Location enabled. If I turn that on then turn my location off in Find My does that mean it would simply show my last sent location where ever I turned off my location? Would that work has anyone tried or can anyone try that? If there are any other ways please let me know.

    Display not turning off when closed - 2019 16"

    Hello,

    Well super excited. Just bought a 2019 Pro 16" for $1250 on ebay from a known seller and no reported issues. The thing looks great other then a small nic on the palm rest. I was getting it all setup, and went to plug it into my two thunderbolt displays to discover that even when I have the lid closed it was still detecting the internal display as turned on. I tried SMC and PRAM reset but no matter what I do the screen won't turn off when I close the lid. I can see light coming out from it when it's 100% closed. There is also a "gritty" noise when moving the screen up and down...maybe a broken ribbon cable? The seller did not disclose any issues or say anything about a screen replacement. I reached out to him, so we will se what happens.

    Has anyone seen this issue or have a fix?

    My iPhone 11 has deep scratches on the screen, and I was looking into trading it in for a new iPhone, would the Apple trade in program consider this “good condition” ?

    iPhone 13 mini: Alert sounds don’t change

    Just got a new iPhone 13 mini and selected different sounds for calendar alerts but nothing changes. It still just plays the default sounds for any calendar alerts that come up. Tried a hard reset. Tried un-syncing other accounts with calendar access. Nothing has worked. Any ideas??

    Hi, my name is Andy, and I'm 16 yrl old. I really need a hand with pages on iPad, I have an important assignment due tomorrow (in 35 minutes) and it is nearly complete. But for specific reasons I don't have time to explain, It is very important to number each page, but EXCLUDING the first page. So that the 2nd page has says #1, and the 3rd page says #2, etc. But the first page needs to stay numberless. I thank anyone attempting to help me.

    Mac crashes when watching YouTube

    Hi all:

    I've got a 2017 iMac (8 GB RAM, 3.6 GHz, Radeon Pro 560 4 GB graphic card, Big Sur 11.6) that basically freezes up when viewing YouTube on Safari (Safari 15) and then eventually requires a re-start.

    I've done all the various things that are supposed to help remedy the situation: unplug the computer, mash a bunch of keys and then re-start, clear the cache, clear the history, make sure everything is updated, run YouTube at a particular resolution, etc. I'm running no extensions on Safari and the problem still occurs even when I've shut off everything else and have nothing running in the background. I've watched the Activity Monitor while YouTube runs and see no big spikes in memory usage (usually running between 4-5 GB of RAM; honestly have no idea if that's proper or not) or anything else that strikes me as weird or unusual. I'm using barely 50% of my hard drive space and have an external drive as well.

    It doesn't happen right away...I seem to be able to get through 10-12 minutes of video before the video freezes. The audio keeps going and mouse is still functional for a few seconds, but then I lose everything and eventually the Mac restarts itself. Everything else seems to work fine; it appears that there's something with YouTube/Safari that makes my Mac sad :(

    I get the impression this is not a new problem...wasn't sure if there something different about my situation so I posted as many details as I could. I greatly appreciate any assistance!

    ..even tho battery icon showed 50% and 11% in the two times it did it today. Battery Condition shows 'Normal.' Online Diagnostic shows 'No Issues.' Did this a few times a couple weeks ago, reset SMC, etc.

    Getting random texts from Apple about my Apple ID code

    For the past few days I've been receiving texts from Apple with a 6-digit number stating it's my Apple ID code and not to share it with anyone. I did some googling and it turns out this is someone attempting to sign into my Apple ID but they can't since I have 2FA on. Is this true? If so, what further precautions can I take? I've already changed my password since the first time I seen the text and I'm still receiving 3-4 a day.

    Just got my new phone, can't download any apps on it though because of this weird bug(?). Everytime I go to sign in and put in my apple id, it brings me back to the same page telling me I have to put it in again, leading to an endless loop.

    I put on my shipping and billing address and this still happens. I'm using an iPhone 12 pro, anyone able to help?
