Give every website a dark mode with Noir, my new Safari extension for iOS 15 Posted: 10 Oct 2021 08:43 AM PDT Hi r/Apple! I hope your Sunday is as great as mine! I'd love to tell you about a new iOS app that I developed over the summer and released recently: Noir. Noir is a Safari extension for iOS that automatically adds a dark mode to every website you visit. Convinced already? You can download Noir here: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id1581140954 Want some more info? I'd love to tell you more about the app the brand new update that released just today!
Since the initial release of Noir 3 weeks ago I've been working hard to improve the app by adding new features and fixing issues that have been reported by users. And just today I've released the second 'feature update' of Noir. With this updates I added the option to darken images. This makes web pages even darker. In my testing this is especially great on news sites. Additionally Noir now also has an optional 'gray' theme for darkening web pages, which makes the websites a bit lighter than pure black. If you ever browse the web at night (and let's be honest, who doesn't use their phone in bed sometimes?), Noir will make this experience really so much better. I hope you give Noir a try and I hope you'll enjoy the app. I'd love to hear what you think! I'll be here to answer any question you might have. Download Noir here: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id1581140954 EDIT: thank you all for your kind words and the amazing responses! I'm signing off for a bit (gotta get some sleep, it's way past midnight where I am). But I'll be sure to catch up on your comments in a bit! [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Oct 2021 11:04 AM PDT I have several shopping, food delivery, and other services apps that I use. I allow notifications from those app to be up to date with the services that use them for. And since now there is now an app for everything from food delivery to doing car maintenance, so many of those apps are straight up abusing the notification system to spam free advertisement. Notifications are now the alternative to promotional email spams. But you cant basically unsubscribe from those because the only option you have is to either enable them or disable them entirely. Bookmarks have been removed from end-to-end encryption in iCloud again. Posted: 10 Oct 2021 01:17 PM PDT When iOS 15 launched, bookmarks was end-to-end encrypted as stated here: https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/q0jnge/safari_bookmarks_are_now_endtoend_encrypted/ That have since been removed again and is accessible for Apple as can be seen here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202303 [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Oct 2021 11:11 AM PDT I hope everyone has been having a restful Sunday! I wanted to share my budgeting app, Envy and see if it can help meet your budgeting needs! Here is the link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/envy-envelope-budget-cash/id1569230951 and some more info below on how it started! Over the years I've bounced around between Mint, Clarity, Empower, Pocketguard, YNAB and probably another 10-20 budgeting apps that I tried out and promptly deleted. I grew tired and cautious of linking bank accounts and having to recategorize transactions became exhausting. I handle the finances in my relationship and generally have a good mental sense of our expenses, income and how we are tracking during the month. As a result, I really only needed a simple, easy tracker for certain categories like dining out, where our budget can easily be blown if we aren't paying attention. I decided to build Envy to solve for my budgeting needs. It can be likened to a digital envelope system. I haven't ever used a cash envelope system BUT I love the simplicity of it and decided to model the app after that concept. I'd love for you to try it out! Full disclosure, there is a free version that provides limited envelopes and functionality that allows you to see if it fits your needs. The full version is what I think is a fair price ($2.99 USD) for budgeting apps out there. Let me know what you think and if you have any questions! [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Oct 2021 04:25 AM PDT Hi everyone About one year ago I have posted about my new app, Weather on the Way. The app combines weather and navigation to show you a forecast for your road trip route, exactly at the time you will be driving through. https://www.weatherontheway.app Thanks to you, it's been a great success, with 50k downloads since launch and great feedback (4.7 stars from over thousand ratings). It was also featured in multiple publications like iMore, techaradar, 9to5mac, tomsguide and even in a print magazine in the UK. It could not have happen without /r/apple, your feedback and encouragement! Thank you very much! Today I wanted to show you a new update, 1.5. It adds major new features:
The app is available for free at https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id1471394318 I want to be transparent, so there are some additional Pro features, unlocked with one time payment or subscription, depending on your preference. You also get Pro for free on your first 5 day trips. *You will probably ask, "what about CarPlay". Unfortunately, after talks with Apple's CarPlay team, they have declined to allow the app on the CarPlay system. The apps need to neatly fit into the categories they have, like music control or turn by turn navigation, and my app does not neatly belong in any of these. Hopefully they will change their mind about it in the future. [link] [comments]

Unsmartifier: Safari Webextension to remove Smart App Banners Posted: 10 Oct 2021 03:02 AM PDT Download link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/unsmartifier/id1587069869 Hi r/apple, On this Promo Sunday I want to present you my new app Unsmartifier which is a iOS 15 Safari Extension. It removes the Smart App Banners on every website when the extension is active. I think everybody knows those mostly annoying banners on top of websites and with Unsmartifier you can have a cleaner web experience. An example page with a Smart App Banner is: https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=1mmydqta or I added a banner on my own page: https://arno.app I thought about this feature since iOS 9 Content Blockers and it was one of the most requested features for them when I was running my own Content Blocker. Unfortunately Content Blockers are not able to block this kind of html elements but with the new WebExtension API it is possible. The app is available for free and supports tips to buy me a cup of tea via in app purchases Since the app may requires some additional information here is a short FAQ: Q: It doesn't block anything and there are still banners. A: Unsmartifier is dedicated to block only the Smart Banners appearing at the top of a website on iOS Safari. There are custom app banners for example by reddit or other pages that are no Smart App Banners. Those can be blocked with Content Blockers like 1Blocker. In addition there still will appear Deep Link Banners when you have the app installed (a good example is YouTube). Those banners can not be blocked at the moment but will disappear if the app is uninstalled. Q: Why does it need full access. Does it collect any data? A: No Unsmartifier doesn't collect any data. It needs full access for all pages because otherwise it can be running on when an arbitrary website is accessed. The Apple warning is a bit frightening but I promise that it won't do anything else than checking if there is such and banner then removing it. The code of a Safari extension can also be inspected by Safari WebInspector on macOS with a connected device so this is some level of transparency. Another factor to gain trust is that I run PiPifier since 2016 and it has over 200k downloads since then. PiPifier on macOS requires the same permission and it doesn't collect any data and never will so! So that's all. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. I hope you enjoy this app. Arno [link] [comments]

Posted: 10 Oct 2021 02:32 AM PDT Hey everyone, I've created an app that aims to keep you motivated by turning your life into a game. It works by splitting it into the following main parts: Quests You can think of quests as tasks you do in your life, which could be as simple as brushing your teeth, or as complex as achieve happiness in life. Complete them to level up your character, skills and attributes. Skills Your hobbies, your profession, your passion. Again, you have the freedom to create whatever skill you have or want to learn. Want to get better at Drawing? Track it. Want to learn Guitar? Track it. Attributes Your personality traits. How would you describe yourself? Empathetic, brave, funny? There is no limit! Maybe you want to improve your confidence? Or maybe you just want to track your progress on it. The motto is: "Whatever you want, you got it." You This app is all about you. Like the points above, you also start at level 1, and will have to fight your way through life to level up, each level being harder than the previous one. If this seems interesting to you, you can try it out here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/dominate-life-lite/id1586184650 You can also see more information here: https://www.dominatelifeapp.com/ Thanks! As a gamedev, wish Apple would regulate third party ads UX Posted: 09 Oct 2021 10:34 PM PDT I appreciate everything Apple has done in the mobile ad space, with regulations such as app tracking transparency which, even though reduced my revenue, is still a huge win for user privacy. However, the major complaints I get from players in reviews is that the ads open App Store even when they click the (tiny) ad close button. The reason why ad networks implement these bad ad designs is rather obvious, so they can get higher click-through rates, higher installs and more money. Unfortunately, I have no control over the ad experience other than disabling certain ad networks (which is usually decided by the publishers) or removing ads altogether (which makes it difficult to compete in an increasingly f2p app market). Apple, however, has the power with policy change and native features to require all ad networks to implement a native ad-close button with a decent size that users can easily click. It might reduce the ad-networks, publishers, and even developers revenue but it would improve the user experience by a lot. I know it's unlikely someone at Apple would see it and even more unlikely they actually implement it, but I sincerely hope it happens. Tldr; Requesting apple to require ad networks to implement native, large ad-close buttons. [link] [comments] |
