Why Apple keeps including stickers inside the box

    Posted: 09 Oct 2021 04:22 PM PDT

Just wondering.. If apple is dedicated to supporting the earth and the environment, why they are still sending stickers while getting rid of the plastic package. For me, this sticker is totally useless.. Or is there anyone who really likes those stickers?

The Golden Age of the Appstore

    Posted: 09 Oct 2021 03:52 PM PDT

its been years since i downloaded a new game on my phone, i really miss the golden era of mobile games, angry birds, cut the rope, tiki towers, diner dash etc when the worst MTX was the eagle in angry birds, i dont need to go into the state of the appstore now, but the games from old are now either removed since they arnt profitable to update or they have been updated to the new cash cow style.

what games still have the charm of the golden age, without a hook on to my wallet?

Are you all disappointed by the lack of MagSafe accessories?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2021 05:52 PM PDT

So I got an iPhone 13 Pro Max agreeing being a die hard pixel fan for a long time. I'm loving it! However, MagSafe was something I was quite looking forwards to. Not really the charging aspect of it, but the accessories part. It seems like a really great way to make some awesome accessories and add to the iPhones already MASSIVE accessory market.

To my dismay, the MagSafe market seems to be severely lacking. Outside of cheap magnetic wallets (I even picked up one from Moft myself) and a ton of MagSafe charger holders, there really isn't much out there.. Did I hype myself up too much for MagSafe or is there something I'm missing? What do you guys think of MagSafe and are you feeling similarly?

MiniSpeech: Live Transcription for Deaf/HoH (or hearing)

    Posted: 09 Oct 2021 09:54 PM PDT

Hi r/apple, it's Promo Sunday! Hooray! My name is Steven, an indie developer. I just launched MiniSpeech, an app designed for deaf, hard of hearing, or nonverbal/mute people. It's also useful for hearing people. In short, it uses voice recognition to provide live transcriptions/captions of what people are saying for deaf users, and allows them to type words to respond. Hearing people can also download this app to communicate with deaf people, or to transcribe a meeting or something.

You can download the app here for free or search for MiniSpeech on the App Store:

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/minispeech-live-transcribe/id1576069409

How is this app different from alternatives?

    • Live Transcribe by Google is Android-only. We provide an iOS alternative.

    • Offline support in many languages. Zero personal info collection.

    • Innovative picture-in-picture feature on iOS 15 that displays the transcription in a floating window when using other apps. It even transcribes podcasts!

    • Try live transcriptions completely free, 2 minutes max at a time, as many times as you like. Upgrade for unlimited duration. Upgrade available as subscriptions or a one-time purchase. No scammy "free-trials" that automatically convert into paid subscriptions.

Here's a full list of features:

    Live Transcription

    • Continuous transcription in 60+ languages.

    • Offline support for some languages.

    • Change the font size, including Extra Large.

    • Flip the text.

    • Choose among the three microphones on your device that is closest to the speaker. You can also use bluetooth headphones (e.g. AirPods) or wired headphones (e.g. EarPods) to get even closer to the speaker.

    • Custom-designed algorithm that amplifies voices, making it possible to transcribe speech from farther away.

    • [NEW] Picture-in-picture floating window support so that you can see the transcription even when you're using another app. (iOS 15+ required)

    • Transcribe audio played by other apps, including podcasts and videos. (Best with front/bottom microphones)

    • Option to start the transcription on app launch, or continue the transcription on app close.

    • Gentle haptics let you know when words are said even when you're not looking at the screen.

    • Share and copy the transcription.

    • Option to filter profanity.

    Respond With Typing

    • Type your response and have your text shown full screen in large type (upside down if you like).

    • Have the device say the words out loud for you as you type them.

    • Customize the speed of the voices.

    • Select the gender of the voices (available in some languages).

    Common Phrases For Quick Access

    • Add common phrases so that you can display it with a single tap, without the need for typing.

    • Pre-configured with useful phrases that explains how to use the app to others.

    Privacy

    • Zero personal information is collected, unless if you send us an email (in which case we'll get your email address and some other info, only for providing support).

    • We just don't want to know or care about what you are transcribing.

    • Recognition can happen entirely on-device if you like.

    • No ads, or their creepy frameworks.

    • No analytics, unless you choose to "Share With Developers" during your iOS set-up.

    • A privacy policy that humans can actually understand.

    Made With Love

    • We read every feedback email and App Store review carefully, and respond promptly.

    • Tested and loved by many users in the deaf community.

    • Super polished user experience designed for simplicity and efficiency.

    • Support for Dynamic Type, which adapts the font size to the system setting.

    • An honest business model. No "free trials" that automatically renew into expensive subscriptions.

    • Includes an Easter egg (hint: reptile).

I've been working on this app for several months, and people really enjoyed it during the TestFlight beta. I hope it can make people's lives easier.

I have three promo codes for one year of unlimited transcriptions. Comment below saying you want one, and I'll select three random winners after 48 hours and DM you the code. I kindly ask that only people with needs do so.

Please don't hesitate to give me feedback (here or in-app)! Also please consider leaving a nice review on the App Store~

Thanks and have a great day!

DPReview TV: iPhone 13 Pro review - shot on the iPhone 13 Pro!

    Posted: 09 Oct 2021 06:13 PM PDT

Does everyone love the iPhone 13 battery? I'm not as impressed as everyone else seems to be...

    Posted: 09 Oct 2021 01:32 PM PDT

Got the 13 Pro the weekend after launch, and I absolutely love it. I came from a XR, so screen and camera are giant leaps for me, and I do not this regret the buy for a second. However, battery is not nearly as good as I expected from what reviewers and other people have been talking about.

The first couple days it died quite fast. Not like 4 hours or anything, but faster than my XR. I credited this to it syncing many of my thousands of iCloud photos and other backup data. Seemed to have been correct, as day 3 was a lot better.

I've had it for a while now, and I've even gone through settings to try to optimize battery. I've turned off Google maps location history, I've turned off background app refresh for almost all my apps other than news and communication apps... Still kinda "meh" – nothing amazing in terms of battery life. Not bad in any way, but not amazing. I currently average about 6 hours screen on time and 6 hours off time, landing at like 20% on a normal day... I've got my 10 day battery consumption here and this is my 10 day list of app usage

I guess, yes, I'm a pretty heavy user by those stats, but hearing people say they have been able to get 2 days of light use out of it... I have a hard time believing that. Not hating, I love the phone, but I also wanted to put a different story out there and see what your guys' thoughts are on the battery!
