| M1 Macbook came in way faster than Apple projected Posted: 01 Sep 2021 04:08 PM PDT Just wanted to post this for people who were curious about how long M1 Macbook shipping actually takes. I ordered the M1 Macbook Air (Gold, 16gb ram with 512gb of storage). On August 26th. When I looked at the shipping projection on Apple.com and the Apple App, they were saying I would receive it between the September 11th and 13th. Once UPS tracking was available for the order, UPS projected delivery for September 1st, and that's exactly when it arrived. So Apple's projections are (at least in my case) significant over-projections (likely so they can "underpromise and overdeliver"). All in all, I'm very happy with the shipping time, and I love my new Macbook! [link] [comments]  | ||

As soon as I touched the computer and it shocked me the computer went dead and wouldn't turn back on. It was plugged in when this happened. Is there anything I can do? | MBP with Lenovo M14 external portable monitor - stuck in power save mode - need diagnostics Posted: 01 Sep 2021 06:06 PM PDT PSA: This M14 monitor is an awesome idea. Exactly what you want for portable development. However, it is super inconsistent with the latest MBPs and, ultimately, gets stuck in a state where it drops into power saving mode immediately, and can never fire up again (of course it's fully charged). If you search, you will see that whenever someone posts about MBP-M14 compatibility, about half of the replies confirm the problem, while the other half say it works fine with their mac. My theory is that this is caused by difference is in DP-Alt-Mode implementation, which might get resolved in a future rev. System logs don't lead to a better theory, but if anyone knows of a diagnostic tool that I can use to look more deeply at the display drivers on my MBP, it would be much appreciated. I went to Mail Preferences and it says new message sound- none. Then I went to notification settings and Mail notifications were turned off. | Need help/advice on purchasing MacBook Pro Posted: 01 Sep 2021 02:13 PM PDT So my girlfriend wants to purchase a new MacBook Pro. She's currently using an early-2015 MBP with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. I told her if she wants to upgrade, to go with one of the new M1 MBP's, and after saying that, she looked it up and wants to all the sudden buy it today. I told her the new 2021 MBP would be releasing sometime in the coming months (either as early as this month or as late as November) and that there's no reason not to wait for the 2021 MBP's as there's no reason to pay full price for the 2020 M1 MBP when the 2021 is releasing so soon, and that she could either just go with the 2021 model or wait for the 2021 model to be revealed so that the price on the 2020 models can go down and then she can buy it. However, I don't know much about Macbook's, so i'm not sure how much they decrease in price after that current year's model becomes outdated with the reveal of the new year's model (or if there's any decrease in price of the past year's model at all). I told her right now is probably the worst possible time she could go and buy a 2020 M1 MacBook Pro, but she doesn't seem to want to listen to me about that and just wants to go buy it right now. | My MacBook Air won’t connect to the internet Posted: 01 Sep 2021 09:01 AM PDT So I have a 2020 M1 MacBook Air and I am currently using it for school, yesterday when I had my first day back to school after summer break I was able to connect my phone to the internet and use it properly yet when it was my MacBook's turn I was able to connect to the wifi yet am unable to get an internet connection. I've tried everything (restarting the computer, forgetting the network and reconnecting it, etc) and when I went to my schools technician the response I got was "I am not familiar with MacBooks" so I decided to try again the next day. Next day comes and the same problem, I even try to use my phone data via a hotspot but the same problem occurred yet it works fine when I'm connect to my home internet.
