Is OSX 10.9.5 able to be updated...or is it already unsupported? Posted: 30 Sep 2021 09:12 PM PDT I have a MacBook which has not had the software updated (since 2016?). It's running 10.9.5. Will I be able to update to the most current operating system to keep everything up-to-date (and not lose Apple from supporting the OS)? [link] [comments]

Which laptop should I get? Tempted to get another mid-2012… Posted: 30 Sep 2021 07:48 PM PDT So I posted yesterday about how I dumped water on my laptop. It seems to be fine - I ran a hardware diagnostic and it came back as normal. I was on a 3-hour Zoom class tonight and it was fine. I know that can change, because corrosion. I didn't see any corrosion after leaving it to "air out" for 24 hours before I had my Zoom class, but I know that can change. Anyway, I should be prepared to get a new/refurbished laptop. My current one is a mid-2012 13" MBP with 512 GB SSD and 8GB of RAM. It was the base 13" model in 2012 but I updated it to an SSD and I doubled the RAM. I know the mid-2012's were the last upgradeable ones, which is sad, because planned obsolescence. I've heard that with the new Macbooks, you shouldn't get the base models because in a few years, for example, 8GB RAM won't be sufficient. So Idk what to do. It's probably not a great idea to get another 2012, because they're old at this point. I'm leaning refurbished. Idk how much RAM. I do typical stuff like Zoom meetings, I store photos, watch movies, occasionally play video games, watch YouTube, etc. I don't do major photo editing (although I have a lot of photos) or video editing. My 512 GB SSD is like half full at the moment, but that will eventually become full. Also I know the Airs are cheaper than the Pros, but it looks like the price difference is hardly anything. Mac air a1932 could use a bit of advice here Posted: 30 Sep 2021 10:33 PM PDT Hello. Good people My profile of my mac : 2019 macbook air model (a1932). I only use Safari, I only have 3 apps were not downloaded from App store : Spotify, Zoom and Express VPN. Whenever I use my mac I always use it on a flat surface/table. No air vents blocked. Problem : I use my mac mostly on room temp environment and when I use safari and open my facebook it works just fine, but after 10 minutes and it heats up. It just slowing down like when I point my cursor to the : most recent, friends, groups side bar. It just gets laggy, even the animation for the 'Like' button after I move my cursor from the 'Like' button it still going on an it just laggy. Also, whenever I use Youtube on my non private window and sign in with not that much of a history and it gets lag when opening up history part. But on private window , it's not Note : my internet is stable so no problem there Question : This happens mainly because two things. 1. Poor ventilation provided by Apple 2. Stupid chip made by Intel 'Amber Lake' lol. 3. Even the 2017 mac air got Broadwell chip. So, If I were to change the thermal paste with the help of a professional. Would that be necessary ? I'm planning on using high end gaming thermal paste. I know it won't make that much of a difference in terms of performance and thermal . But would it help ? Ps : before anybody asks. no I don't have malware on my mac . lol [link] [comments]
Can't play UHD on Safari and Google Posted: 30 Sep 2021 06:37 PM PDT Hi, I recently rent a movie name Nobody on youtube. I paid $6.99 for it and the title clearly says UHD but when I start to watch the movie it doesn't show UHD option in the quality. The high resolution that I can get is 1080p and what is even worst is that if I watch this movie on google chrome it will play at 480p. The MacBook that I'm using is Macbook pro 13 M1. This MacBook is clearly can play 4K and does support HDR. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thank. [link] [comments]
What is the best widescreen monitor to use as a secondary monitor for my 13inch M1 MBP? Posted: 30 Sep 2021 10:17 PM PDT I'm already using an Acer Predator 32" monitor from 2016, but it only supports 50hz refresh rate and everything feels choppy and even though it's 4k, the image quality is blurry. I'm just wondering, aside from Apples own $5k monitor, what is the best widescreen monitor (or even monitor in general) for quality picture and 60hz? [link] [comments]
Night shift and True Tone doubt Posted: 30 Sep 2021 09:39 PM PDT Is there a way to avoid Night Shift and True Tone affecting certain apps? I do a lot of photo editing and sometimes Night Shift comes in without me noticing and messes up my colors because I notice it a bit later. thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Securely erase macbook for trade-in? Posted: 30 Sep 2021 11:34 AM PDT Hello. Please guide me as to how I can securely erase and reset my macbook before trade-in? Will just signing out from office365 be sufficient? [link] [comments]
Program to move cursor when reaching end of trackpad Posted: 30 Sep 2021 01:38 PM PDT Hi. I used to have a Dell laptop and while dragging an item, if my finger would reach the end of the trackpad but I would still want to drag the item further, I would have to keep my finger at the edge of the trackpad and the cursor would keep moving in that direction. This was very useful for dragging stuff with one finger. Any idea if there's an option in MacOS to do the same, or if there's a program that I can install to get such a functionality? Thanks. Posted: 30 Sep 2021 10:48 AM PDT For whatever reason, USB 3.0 connections can sometimes interfere with the radio signals of some wireless dongles. If you just plugged a USB 3.0 hub with wireless keyboard/mouse dongles into a Macbook and you notice it's either incredibly laggy or straight-up not sending keyboard signals, try either switching to a 2.0 hub or even just for testing, put a 2.0 extension cable in between your 3.0 hub and the Mac's USB-C ports. It might help you narrow down the cause of signal loss. [link] [comments]

Youtube too slow on High Sierra? Posted: 30 Sep 2021 02:08 PM PDT Hi, I've noticed recently that Youtube got incredibly slow and often takes forever to respond on Chrome browser on my Mac Air 2017 (8GB Ram) which runs in High Sierra. Despite not having the latest version of Mac OS, I do have the latest version of Chrome though :) I dont remember this happening before, so was wondering what might be the issue? Did anyone notice anything similar? thanks to those, who takes the time to reply! [link] [comments]
How do I screen record with audio? Posted: 30 Sep 2021 12:12 PM PDT So my uncles funeral is being live streamed tomorrow because of covid restrictions we can't have many people at the funeral but my elderly relatives in Australia really want to watch it but it's not possible for them to be awake at the same time as it's on(they're in their late 80's and early 90's so it's just not gonna be possible) I've asked the funeral company if they would do a recording of it but they said they can't but we can record it from the live stream if we want, how can I screen record with audio from the funeral? Every time I've looked up about screen recording people are saying you can't record the sound. Any help would be massively appreciated thank you I have a MacBook Pro 2020 and it's still on Catalina cause I'm too scared to update to big sur [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Sep 2021 06:57 AM PDT Good morning!, Srry for my English, i have a MacBook Air 2017 i5 8gb 128gb, until 3 months ago everything was fine with my computer, one day I just started using it (like any other day) and I noticed a dramatic change in performance (for bad), I was in the last Big Sur update so I thought that was the problem so I went through all kinds of process (go back to previous version until do formatting, reinstall) and the performance is just the same, I have checked the task monitor and there is no nothing abnormal, it just seems that the computer cannot perform tasks, although in Big Sur it is very unusable (it gets too hard even opening system preferences or loading an animation) in high sierra and Mojave behaves a little better (because obviously they are lighter) but you can't even keep Microsoft teams or certain web pages open, not to mention graphic applications that I could run decently before, now they don't even open, I don't know what to do, I know this The equipment is not for demanding use but before I did not have these problems considering that I was in Big Sur, now I cannot even stay in the last update (Big Sur) because it is very unusable, right now I am in Mojave and the equipment only serves to browse basic web pages and open one or another document, it's as if I used my pc from 2008, does anyone know what I can do? Will it be a physical hardware problem? At the software level, I don't know what else to do, I have tried everything, I clarify that the tests in different OS I have carried out having more than 70% of available storage, in normal temperatures, the MacBook diagnosis does not detect any failure, the fan it works, I didn't drop it, it didn't hit, it just practically died overnight :( [link] [comments]
Endless update app loop - Big Sur on Macbook Pro Posted: 30 Sep 2021 09:50 AM PDT Okay, technically it isn't endless. I'm trying to update apps on my Mac and there are six available app updates on the Updates page. I'm signed in to my apple ID on both the computer itself and in the app store.
I've tried signing out of the App Store, signing out of my apple ID on the computer itself and signing back in, and rebooting. I keep seeing the same thing. Should I be doing these things in a specific order? Can anyone help me? I'm about to start smashing things. [link] [comments]
Spilled water on my macbook air Posted: 30 Sep 2021 09:32 AM PDT So I spilled water on my macbook air and there was water behind the screen. Out of no where the screen I was on turned off and the apple logo came on with an unfilled loading bar beneath it. It keeps alternating between the screen I just described, a screen with just the apple logo, and a black screen. I put it to dry immediately but idk if it will work. For context, my water bottle spilled in my backpack and most of the liquid was absorbed by the cloth case I had my macbook in, regardless water still got in. Any advice on what to do?
