Daily Megathread - On-Device CSAM Scanning Posted: 31 Aug 2021 06:00 AM PDT Hi r/Apple, welcome to today's megathread to discuss Apple's new CSAM on-device scanning. As a reminder, here are the current ground rules: We will be posting daily megathreads for the time being (at 9 AM ET) to centralize some of the discussion on this issue. This was decided by a sub-wide poll, results here. We will still be allowing news links in the main feed that provide new information or analysis. Old news links, or those that re-hash known information, will be directed to the megathread. The mod team will also, on a case by case basis, approve high-quality discussion posts in the main feed, but we will try to keep this to a minimum. Please continue to be respectful to each other in your discussions. Thank you! For more information about this issue, please see Apple's FAQ as well as an analysis by the EFF. A detailed technical analysis can be found here. [link] [comments]
Looking for a very old friend named Oxford. Posted: 31 Aug 2021 01:53 PM PDT Many years ago I belonged to an internet newgroup comp.sys.mac.advocacy There was a gentleman there named Oxford. I am an IT professional, and at the time I was doing a lot of work with IBM Midrange systems (AS/400 and RS/6000). I had a lot of heated debates with Oxford about Mac related stuff... the IBM world, Apple Xserve, etc... He was pretty much the guy who knew everything about Apple. After we discussed the industry and debated IT philosophy for a few years, I had an occasion to email with him, he sent me an email from the address of "Ichangedtheworld@mac.com". Any time in my work if I came across Apple being used in an infrastructure, he was always there to help me out. We never met in person, but we would talk via email a few times a year. Then one day he was gone. The emails still don't bounce, but there is never a reply. My wife is convinced that my nemesis/friend was Steve Jobs, it was around the time of him getting sick that Oxford dropped out of contact. Does anybody remember Oxford, or know of him? I would like to know, or perhaps get back in touch with my old friend. I know it's a long shot, but I am getting old now and would love to hear from him. [link] [comments]

Have any of you purchased an Apple Watch but ended up getting rid of it down the line? Posted: 01 Sep 2021 12:39 AM PDT After reading nothing but praise I got an Apple Watch SE about two months ago. However, the past few days I've been considering selling it for various reasons but mainly just that I'm not seeing it's value. I haven't found very many posts about people who ended up getting rid of their watch. So has anyone here done so? Why? [link] [comments]

Airpods Max: are they any good after you have used them for a few months? Posted: 31 Aug 2021 06:07 AM PDT Hi there, I wanted to hear people's experience with the Airpods Max, especially those who have used them for a few months. How is it? Does it live up to the price, and did you find it good/great with your Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, MacBook etc?). Is it easy to take it with you, what is the usage like before charging, is it annoying to charge etc. Although there are quite a few YouTubers mentioning their experience, I don't often (completely) 'trust' their opinions. Thanks. [link] [comments]
