System Information reports the health as 97% (Good), and CoconutBattery says 85%. However, it is draining too fast. I am a heavy user, doing a lot of gaming and video editing. I opened Contacts, opened Time Machine, but from there I wasn't able to navigate the Contacts from my last backup. Posted: 17 Aug 2021 02:58 PM PDT Hi, this is going to be a long one, I have a Mid-2012 MBP (Non Retina, the cult favorite :D) I got a new sata SSD for it, a while back, and it worked fine, however when trying to clean install to a new version, I kept getting issues, in Mavericks, Catalina, High Sierra, and El Capitan, so def not a version issue (I even tried the OpenCore patcher for Big Sur), after looking into what issue it was, on HFS+ based OS' (Mavericks, El Capitan, High Sierra) the issue was The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk. When formatting as APFS, (Big Sur, Catalina, High Sierra) it finished installation without incident for the first screen, but after the first restart, on High Sierra it just bootlooped, on Catalina and Big Sur it said "macOS couldn't be installed on your computer, Couldn't complete copy. : (-69512) Quit the installer to restart the computer and try again". I don't think it's the cables problem, or the computer, I used a random HDD and all the OS' installed fine. For the SSD side of things, on my desktop mac, macOS installed completely fine with no incident, as well as Arch, Mint, and PopOS. On my MBP, I was able to install Arch, Mint, Windows (no bootcamp it was awful :/) and PopOS onto the SSD without incident. More shenanigans from this SSD.On High Sierra back when it worked, a while before it broke i had a-lot of booting issues and random shutdowns.Formatting it on the Mavericks boot USB fails alot of the time. I have tried:NVRAM, PRAM, SMCDiff OSRedownloading macOS and making the installer againdifferent USB'sFormatting in linux first, then mac,Formatting the SSD on my other computer, the installing here. The SSD is in warranty (pny xlr8 cs2311), so I could replace it but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it seems to work fine on all my other computers. . . EDIT: School starts tmrw, I can totally just install it on my hard drive, but would prefer SSD for obvious reasons, so quick fixes and moonshot stuff is fine, If none of that works ill prob take it to the apple store and let them deal with it, and RMA the SSD, so already thought of that :) This machine could use Linux, but personally the battery life hit even on arch with i3 and TLP/Top offf and a ton of other battery saving utilities isn't as good as macOS and battery life is kinda my #1 thing, so id rather use an HDD with better batterylife than an ssd with worse (nothing against linux):/ [link] [comments]  | ||
| M1 MacBook Pro won’t boot after update Posted: 17 Aug 2021 06:58 PM PDT Yesterday I updated my m1 and now it won't boot, it will load to about 40% then stay there sometimes it will get to 40% then go back to 5% and stay there. I've tried going into safe mode and I have the exact same problem I've also tried downloading OS again and it doesn't seem to do anything. I left it shut down and unplugged for about 8 hours and when I tried to turn it on it was fully out of charge no idea what to do. [link] [comments]  | ||

Specifically, what I'm wanting to do is have it drive 2 external monitors while the internal monitor is disabled. An acceptable alternative would be to mirror the internal display on one external monitor while extending the display to the second. | Dual display dongle recommendations Posted: 17 Aug 2021 06:02 PM PDT Hi mac gang I was recently given a 25,5" monitor which I want to use alongside my existing 27" monitor (which only has hdmi, no DP). I bought an hp g5 usb c dock (i learnt that usb c doesn't mean thunderbolt) and it obviously didn't work with my 2017 MBP and I can't commit to another dongle without assurance that it'll work for extended displays and not simply mirroring. Does anyone have a multi display dongle they use that they have/had a good experience with that they'd recommend? (Without absolutely breaking the bank) Appreciate any input 🙏 [link] [comments]  | ||
| Safari Picture in Picture vs other Browsers Posted: 17 Aug 2021 10:57 AM PDT Hello, I have a weird setup where my gaming PC sits in a rack downstairs, and I use my Macbook pro to connect to it via Moonlight. My Macbook is my daily driver and I utilize my Gaming PC only for Gaming. I only have one monitor due to desk space currently. Therefore I use Safari to do PIP for Twitch or Youtube, and it will put that PIP over moonlight or any fullscreen/extra desktop screen. I have noticed other browsers do not do this. Does anyone know if its possible to get them to do this as well? I'm not very good with mac OS, so I have no idea how I would accomplish this if its a setting somewhere. But recently I am facing some troubles and I don't really understand why this is happening. Some of my problems are listed below and none of them happening in the safari that means there is no problem on the network : -Really slow searching speed. - Videos on youtube and other streaming services are really slow. It is always laggy. -Sometimes my search engine changes to bing but in settings, it is set as google. - When I search from the bar it shows really weird links and after that, it connects to bing, I think there are some virus things going on but I did a search on CleanMYMACx and my computer looks clear. | External numeric keyboard keeps activating some input everytime I connect Posted: 17 Aug 2021 11:38 AM PDT So i was using a bluetooth numeric keyboard with no problems until i installed a mac keyboard which started giving me this issue where the numeric kb activates some key that closes all dialogs. I thought it was ESCAPE the key that it was pressing but it doesnt seem like it. What i have to do to stop this random key from activating its press all buttons on the kb and for some reason it stops. I already tried removing both keyboards from bt devices but the issue keeps happening on the numeric kb [link] [comments]  | ||
