    I downloaded Windows 10 on my Macbook Pro through BootCamp. Now everytime I power my Mac on, it automatically loads to Windows instead of Mac. I don’t want to uninstall Windows, as I need it for something I can’t do on MacOS, but how do I set MacOS as my primary?

    MacOS update failed - afraid to try again

    Last week I tried to update my 2015 15" MacBook Pro from 11.5 to 11.5.1. I started the update through System Preferences like I normally would. When I came back to the computer after an hour or so, it was in the OS Recovery boot menu. A message said the update had failed (no apparent reason). The SSD was left empty apart from the base system container.

    Luckily I had Time Machine backups of everything so I ended up wiping the disk, installing 11.5 from scratch and then moving all my data/settings back using Migration Assistant. It took me the better part of a day to get everything back in complete working order though.

    Now I'm afraid to try the update again.

    What are your thoughts? It's the first time something like this happens to me. If you've experienced this, do you know how common it is and what the cause could have been? Is it likely to happen again if I try the update a second time?

    Recover deleted screen recording

    Yesterday, I recorded an important session on my MBA M1 Big Sur 11.5.1.

    When I stopped the video, I clicked on the thumbnail that appeared in the bottom right corner to replay the video, but I accidentally clicked on the "Trash" icon instead of "Done" and now it is gone.

    I tried to reproduce and noticed that Big Sur temporarily stores the recording in ~Library/ScreenRecordings before saving it to the destination folder. However, when you delete it when previewing the thumbnail, it just disappears from that folder.

    Any tips/help?

    Since upgrading to Big Sur, 3rd party apps ask for notification permission after every restart

    Since upgrading to Big Sur, every time I restart or log back in, 3rd party apps will ask for permission to display notifications. So I have to go through that with every app after each new restart. Any clue what might be causing that?

    New MacBook Air, trying to download music and music videos to external hard drive on the Music App from the iCloud and it's bogging down the entire network.

    Everything has been working great. Until I hit the download icon to get the music and videos onto my hard drive. The first dozen or so download without a problem, then suddenly it just wouldn't download anything else, the indicator still spins like everything is okay, but the entire network started to slow to a crawl. Took several mins to even load Reddit, which is usually instant.

    I quit the Music App and the network is back up normal and fast. Restarted the computer. Running Videos from the HD without issue. It's only the Music App. Anyone know what's going on?

    Any idea how to turn off commands sounds on Big Sur?

    My Mac suddenly started to make weird noised every time I use keyboard commands like copy, paste, find, refresh...etc

    I don't know how or why did it start doing this but I'm 100% sure it wasn't always like this. Any idea how to turn it off?

    Can I use macOS full installer to perform update on existing OS

    Hello,

    First time mac owner. I had issues downloading the update but I used the CLI and was able to download a "full install" of macOS 11.4.

    Would I be able to use the full installer to update my working OS to 11.4 or will the full installer only perform a full installation?

    Using dot instead of comma in external numeric keypads

    I'm running big sur in a MacBook pro 16 inch and have an external numeric keypad which for some reason even though it has a dot on the keypad it shows a comma when pressing it. I tried changing regional settings but it changes all my layout and still is not working at all for me.

    Anybody knows how to make it show a dot permanently so i don't have to use the MacBook's keyboard?

    How to properly clean the cache and log files

    At the suggestion of some people here I have uninstalled Clean My Mac X. But now I need to learn how to manually:

    1. Uninstall all traces of an app
    2. Clear the Cache properly
    3. Clear the log files

    Anyone has some good recipes for these actions?

    Old Mac OS in container?

    Hi, when I load my time capsule backup from another mac, the old Mac OS seems to be still inside somewhere because when I check my storage, it appears to be in a container.

    Anyone know where can I delete this container to free up my storage?

    When saving a file, is there any way to go quickly to the folder of the currently open file? I know that you can set it as a preference for the save dialog to always go straight there, but I don't want that. I like that it will keep it in the location of the last saved file, I just want a button or keyboard shortcut that takes me to the parent directory. I am fairly sure this isn't a native function, but is there an app that provides the functionality that anyone knows of?

    How do you skip back 10 seconds with keyboard

    Hi, does anyone know how do you skip back 10 seconds (or any number of seconds) on a web video playing (not YouTube video, but from another web) with keyboard? I have both chrome and Safari on my MacBook Air. I know that I can stop the video with the play/stop Botton on top right of my keyboard, but how can I skip back and forth?

    I usually have take note taking app open side by side the lectures playing on safari, so I want to be able to keep typing on my note-taking app, and skip back 10 seconds while not having to switch between my note-taking app and safari and using mouse to skip 10s back. (I do this: I have both safari and note taking app on screen, while typing on note taking app, the video is running, then if I want to skip 10s back, I have to hove my mouse and click on safari window to select it, and then click on 10s back Botton with is too long).

    If you have any suggestion, any extension that can do that really appreciate it.

    Installing .ipa/.app inside iOS simulator on Silicon M1

    Because of side loading being blocked since macOS 11.3, I'm kind of stuck with macOS 11.2.3, but I would really like to upgrade. So I tried looking for alternatives, and iOS simulator from Xcode is what I think could allow me to run some iOS Apps on Mac. On Intel Macs the issue was apps in iOS App Store are compiled for ARM, so iOS simulator could not run them - you would have to recompile them for x64. Now that there are ARM Macs, technically I cannot think of a reason why those apps should not work on iOS Simulator.

    I managed to install some apps inside iOS simulator, by exporting .ipa files using iMazing, then extracting .app files from them, but the apps start for a second and shutdown suddenly.

    Has anyone tried to make this work?

    P.S. Of course I don't need this to run 1Password, it's just an example app that I tried to run. I'm more into running iOS games.

    OWC Thunderbolt 2 Dock Station compatiblity with Macbook M1

    Anyone in here has their M1 Macbook Pro/AIR connected to an OWC Thunderbolt 2 dock station?

    I have ordered a M1 Macbook Air today and was also looking to get a dock station, however, i do have the one the i already mentioned and i've noticed that there's a TB2 to TB3 adapter, so instead of getting a new dock, just get the adapter and use the same one, but i'm not sure if it would work.

    I would appreciate comments!

    M1 MBA Won't Go to Sleep

    My laptop just won't fall asleep at all. The screen would be on all night if I don't manually put it to sleep or close the lid. I have checked Activity Monitor for apps preventing sleep but there are none. My preferences are at default: Turn display off after 2min on Battery and after 10min on Power Adapter. But it just never sleeps! Why is this? Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

    Wallpaper Filenames

    M1 MBA and M1 Mini, Big Sur 11.5.1.

    Once upon a time in Windows XP, I had a rotating wallpaper utility that, in addition to changing my wallpaper on a schedule, would also put the filename in the bottom right corner so I could find the file if I chose.

    For reasons, I have a wallpaper directory of ~110k files, and there are a very few I'd like to pull out. As you can imagine, sorting through that many files is a challenge.

    It seems to me the solution is to have MacOS display the filename along with the file. I've found a Terminal command that does this in debug mode, but the text is enormous (ruining the attractiveness of the wallpaper), and when you trigger it, it also changes the background, so the file I actually want the name of is lost before it gets displayed.

    Is there a way to display these names in a way that's both accurate and unobtrusive?

    Are these problems normal on M1?

    I feel insane. My M1 Mac Mini (512gb, 8gb) has given me a ton of random issues with no clear cause. Are these normal or known? Not looking for troubleshooting every one, but I want to know if other people see these too. Never encountered these on Intel-based Macs.

    • USB devices are non-responsive upon waking from sleep. Only restart fixes it. USB hub is not the issue.
    • No devices (USB, monitors) are responsible upon waking from sleep. Only restart fixes it.
    • FinalCut is incredibly glitchy, freezing during basic fade transitions in projects with only text. checked all program settings & they match recommendations.
    • MacOS switches secondary and primary monitor settings. My displays were sideways.
    • 2nd monitor (USB C -> HDMI) sometimes turns on and off every 10 seconds. Reconnecting display fixes it.
    • One monitor won't show video at all. Reconnecting display fixes it.

    I'm certain it's not the USB & monitor hardware, as I used them previously on a Windows machine without these issues.

    LaCie disconnects when idle for some time

    I have a 5TB LaCie hard drive. Whenever I close the lid of my mac after some time disc ejects itself. I get a "Disc not ejected properly notify" and disc itself shows. up after some time.

    How to migrate macOS installation from external to internal disk

    I have an iMac 27" 2015 with its fusion drive and a Samsung external disk. macOS all my data is only on Samsung, fusion drive is empty. I need to use this disk for something else, so I just want to make the fusion drive the startup drive with all the data/settings/profiles/etc from my current installation.

    How do I do this migrate? I tried run copy the disk Carbon Copy, then turned off the Mac, removed Samsung disk and when I turned on, it didn't boot. What am I doing wrong? Are there any easy to follow guides? Thanks
