Is Steve Jobs’ original idea for the iPad’s purpose still relevant today? Posted: 30 Aug 2021 10:51 AM PDT In my opinion, Steve Jobs' idea of the iPad being a third device to go along with the laptop and the smartphone is largely outdated. Back in 2010, smartphones were pretty tiny and not very capable compared to today's smartphones, and laptops were very expensive and bulky to carry around. The gap between laptop and smartphone was large enough for a tablet market to thrive which allowed the iPad to succeed. However, as time goes on, smartphones became bigger and more powerful to the point that it can do any kind of common computer task. In addition, laptops became thinner, lighter, and cheaper. As a result, the iPad somewhat lost its role in people's tech ecosystem as laptops and smartphones became better at doing tasks that the iPad was meant to do. Of course, people today are still buying iPads. I own one and so does my mom, grandfather and others. However, I believe that most people buying iPads today are buying them as their only computing device, not as an supplement. The iPad has become capable enough to replace average people's laptops. This is why the iPad Pro is frustrating for many people. For the amount of money you spend for an M1 iPad Pro with its accessories, you get a machine that can't replace a traditional laptop like a MacBook Pro or a Windows laptop in that price range. Meanwhile, if you're someone who needs a cheap basic laptop for basic tasks, you can get by with the base iPad or iPad Air. The market today prefers to have either an iPad or a laptop. It's not as common to see people have both like what it was 10 years ago. I mainly bring this up now because after owning my iPad Pro for over 2 years, it has become my least used Apple product. Before getting my iPad, I had a 2018 MacBook Air and an iPhone 8. Both of them were fine for what they did, but there was a functional gap between them that justified getting an iPad. Since then however, I upgraded both the iPhone and MacBook to the iPhone 12 and M1 MacBook Air, and both of them pushed my need for a tablet more into the niche side of things. I still use my iPad Pro occasionally like playing games, taking notes that require illustrations, and drawing the occasional sketch. However, my need for it has gone down significantly, almost to the point where I wonder if I can get by without it. I should clarify that over the years, my usage between both the iPad and MacBook change drastically. There are long periods of time where I use my iPad a lot more on a daily basis, and then there are times where I use my MacBook a lot more on a daily basis. However, I have never got my usage between both devices to be equal of each other. I guess that idea of having both a tablet and a laptop is something I don't really like. I prefer to just have one computer and a smartphone, and the mainstream market likely has the same sentiment. [link] [comments]

YouTube app - does the “add to queue” function exist? Posted: 30 Aug 2021 05:27 AM PDT On both my phone (YT app) and Safari I can click on a video and add it to the queue of currently playing videos. They then auto play one after another. I can't seem to find this on the iPad YouTube app. Am I looking in the wrong place or does it not exist? It's on iPad Safari - which, oddly, seems like a much better YT experience on iPad? (I'm not talking about the Watch Later playlist) [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Aug 2021 01:46 PM PDT I like the portability of the iPad mini but I'm wondering if there are features I'll miss out on that the iPad pro has? I'll be using this to replace my wacom tablet. My main concern is not missing out on Apple Pencil 2 features. [link] [comments]

Can anyone recommend an app that can edit .ts video files? Posted: 30 Aug 2021 07:43 AM PDT As the title suggests, I am looking for a video editor that will support the import of .ts video files. The preferred option is to be able to import .ts video files, cut bits out and export as MP4, keeping bitrate, resolution all the same. I would prefer a free app but if only paid apps can do this, then so be it. I'm not looking to do anything else apart from cutting adverts from recorded videos, and trimming bits from beginning and end, where I want the video to finish. [link] [comments]

Does the Logitech Folio touch for Ipad pro (1st, 2nd gen) works with ipad pro (3rd gen)? Posted: 30 Aug 2021 09:30 AM PDT I heard that the only problem is that the logitech keyboard covers some parts of the speakers but nothing else. Are all the features available or I have to return my product and buy the combo touch? [link] [comments]
Minimised, Floating keyboard - size customizable? Posted: 30 Aug 2021 03:53 AM PDT Hi, i have a little problem with ipad on screen keyboard.. the full size is too big to me, with the mini size, floating keyboard, it is too small to me.. would be just nice if the floating keyboard i size is customizable.. or if there is any other solution to this? thank you [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Aug 2021 12:19 PM PDT I want to move from the Logitech Folio Touch to the Combo Touch but I noticed it does not have a pencil strap. I am looking online for a strap with a flat adhesive side and a magnetic side but have not found anything like it, so I am hoping you have another solution to keep from losing my pencil on the go, while keeping it paired and charged. Issue opening PDF on my iPad 6th generation Posted: 30 Aug 2021 11:42 AM PDT I have been having an issue opening PDFs for my class, when I open the PDF on my safari and chrome browser the lettering on the PDF overlap each other. I bought notability and wanted to import the pdfs to notability to write on but when the PDF is imported there is missing information from the PDF and somethings are not in the right order. Does anyone have any recommendation to remedy this? [link] [comments]
Best PDF AND EPUB annotator tool to build your Second Brain Posted: 28 Aug 2021 10:07 AM PDT Hi all, I have a ton of ebooks in both PDF and ePub formats that I want to take notes on/annotate comments and have that integrated in a sort of "second brain" for my knowledge. To store and retain the inisghts from these books and other research, I currently use OneNote with my family and it has been great for organizing our notes and research as its based in the cloud and syncs really fast. Plus it is platform agnostic which is great as different people in my family use Windows, iOS, Android, and Mac. OneNote has served as our knowledge management repository (for now). Im now looking for apps that I can use to annotate PDFs and ePubs to take notes on, highlight, etc. And then feed this material into OneNote which would be the storing house for the knowledge. Questions: 1) Which apps would allow me to annotate and make notes in BOTH pdf and ePub formats? I see a ton of PDF tools...but can ePubs even be annotated like PDFs can? Or would I have no choice but to convert the ePub into PDF? 2) I have read there apps out there like PDF Expert 6, Highlighter, Flexcil, Marginnotes, Liquidtext. Can the notes taken from books using these apps be imported into OneNote? 3) I know some of these apps only support certain OS (whether windows or mac). Was hoping for a tool that is both excellent and multi-platform and that can ensure seamless collaboration like OneNote can. [link] [comments] |
