Apple TV 4K Inconsistent Audio Levels

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 09:55 AM PDT

I have a last-gen Apple TV 4K connected to my Samsung TV. No soundbar (yet). I have recently run into an issue where the audio levels across various apps are inconsistent. So for example, if I open up the MLB TV app the audio level is generally fine at the normal levels I leave my TV at.

However, when I try and play content on the HBO Max app, I will need to almost double my TV volume settings in order to be able to reasonably hear the audio content being played. Even after doing this, the experience is lacking as the audio is noticeable weaker than expected.

I'm wondering if there are any settings inside of tvOS that I need to set in order to prevent this from happening or if this is an issue with tvOS 14.7 or the media applications themselves (HBO Max has a pretty awful track record on the Apple TV)?

    Apple TV App Store

Are the apps in the Apple TV App Store different or optimized to work on Apple TV or are they the same as the iPhone apps?

Apple TV 4K having picture issues after hooking up a new HDMI cable…

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 08:59 PM PDT

I've had the same Amazon Basics HDMI cable for awhile. I recently upgraded my 4K TV (TCL 6 Series 55"), so I figured I'd pick up a new HDMI cable for my Apple TV 4K (previous model).

I hooked it up. It seemed to be ok. However, once I exited out of the show I was watching and looked at the Home Screen, something seemed off. I went to Settings and that's when it was apparent: some areas of the screen were a tiny bit blurry. It was especially obvious with text on the screen.

I ran the HDMI check, which went fine. I tried changing the chroma to test it, but it was the same. I then rebooted my Apple TV and had the same issue.

I know it was specific to the HDMI because when I accessed my TV's home screen everything was crystal clear.

The strange thing is, I then went to hook up my old HDMI cable and had the same issue. I changed the HDMI port and it was fine.

Has this happened to anyone before?

    TV OS 14.7 issues

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 05:41 AM PDT

Hey guys. I have hooked up my Apple TV 4k (2021) to my Samsung hw q950t soundbar which passes video to my Hisense TV. Up to now, I was very pleased with this setup, but since the auto-update to TV OS 14.7, I ran into two issues:

1.) I experienced short random audio drops (0.5s) on YouTube and Netflix, which did not occur since I upgraded from a fire TV Cube to the ATV (These audio hiccups were actually the reason for the upgrade, bc the fire TV Cube behaved the same).

2..) The sub woofer level seems to be lower than before.

Any similar observations or opinions if these issues could be caused by the TV OS 14.7 update? Thankful for any response. C.

Volume button works... strange... appleTV 4k

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 03:54 PM PDT

I can't seem to understand the volume button on this. Do I hold it or tap it to increase / decrease volume? It doesn't seem to work consistently on mine. Not sure if it's just me or what.

Apple TV 4K (1st gen) strange input switching when viewing movies or series (regardless if it’s HDR or not)

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 10:48 AM PDT

Been using a TCL Series 6 and a Sony STR-DH590 for multichannel sound for a while now. Image and sound quality is great but lately I've noticed that whenever I view something on streaming apps (including Apple's own apps but excluding YouTube) the whole system just sort of freaks out.

For example, when I go to see a movie (in Dolby Vision in this case) on the TV app there will be a delay where it seems like the receiver and the tv are switching between modes? The tv screen goes back to the input screen and then quickly goes back to the Apple TV interface and the movie starts playing. But that makes little sense to me since the Apple TV's interface is in HDR anyway, why would it need to switch mode?

Anyway, it's a minor nuisance but one I'd like to get to the bottom of.

    Authorization via apple-id

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 01:37 PM PDT

So, im using a apple tv 4k for my smart tv watching, and its the only apple product i own.

Lately its starting to ask me to type in my password, at moments i never did before.

And because apples password requirements are insane, i can never remember my password, and have to create a new one everytime, that i also end up forgetting. Why is this happening ?

I need help with closed captions using Siri

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 07:28 AM PDT

I have 2 new Apple tv's for my living room (Samsung 2021 Smart) and bedroom (2019 TCL Roku). I set them up and have had no problems that I couldn't figure out myself although I'm not tech savvy.

So Siri works fine to open apps and whatever, but when it comes to closed captions, I get the same response on both Apples, which is "I'm having trouble getting the available languages". Siri will usually turn off captions so I'm seriously confused.

My settings are Language English (US) and the only shows or video I'm watching are from US.
    Thanks for any help.

What makes the appletv appealing over the roku which can stream anything for free?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 06:28 PM PDT

Im trying to figure out the differences and to me it seems that roku will be a good long term investment as i wont need to subscribe to services to watch shows and movies.

Im not too informed so can the apple tv do something similar?

Vocal clarity issue with stereo HomePods and Atmos

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 06:00 AM PDT

I've got a stereo pair of OG HomePods set as my default audio on a new AppleTV. It definitely sounds better than on my previous AppleTV HD.

But I still feel there is a loss of clarity in the centre for dialogue in tv shows and movies.

I was really hoping I could ditch my old receiver and speakers as they take up too much room.

Is there anything that can be done to improve this? I've tried reduce loud sounds on/off.

It also seems like you can't turn auto Atmos off? The other day my kid was complaining that the music in one of her cartoons was too loud and it really was! Drowning out the dialog. Just background music too. I switched back to the stereo receiver and it was much better. This is a separate issue I guess.

Apple TV (Latest Model) Won't Play Video

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 08:31 AM PDT

The video loads, and can be scrubbed around, and displays stills, but will not play - it 'thinks' it's playing, because when the play/pause button is pressed it pulls up the standard timeline and thumbnail, but video does not play.

This is in all video playback. No error messages.

Apple has replaced the device, and this is still ongoing. Solid wifi connection via an Eero system, but the same error happened with the FiOS router previously.

I have an earlier Apple TV 4K model on the same network that has no issues.

The model prior to replacement worked for some time before this error developed. Has happened on 14.5, 14.6, 14.7

Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? I'm at a loss, and very frustrated by the prospect of my favorite TV interface being irretrievably broken.
